OpenVPN Server set to LAN only allows browsing

If the LAN/Internet/Both option is changed, does the config file have to be exported again, or can this setting be changed arbitrarily and the client connection will honor it?

RT-AX88U Pro - Blocked Internet Access on Guest Network Not Working!

That's odd. My old AC68U allows me to disable Internet access via the GUI

How to filter out foreign countries

If you have a public IP, you can't block anyone from 'finding' your router. CGNAT may provide some extra security here.

Security Upgrade option on RT-AX88U Pro

It sounds like ASUS is now forcing some updates on the user regardless of settings o_O

Are you thinking about a Totolink router?

Yeah, I've never heard of Totolink, either. https://www.techradar.com/pro/security/if-youre-using-this-router-brand-you-may-want-to-disconnect-now-security-researchers-found-more-vulnerabilities-and-a-hardcoded-password-in-totolink-hardware

Does Asus' IPsec implementation allow LAN access?

Right. I'm thinking would would be the point of remotely connecting if you couldn't reach LAN devices. Can you even access the Internet?

Could a router be hacked from WAN end if firmware always up to date, no portwarding, no upnp and wifi disabled.

Even Cisco has issues ... and of course they aren't consumer-grade. https://arstechnica.com/security/2023/10/actively-exploited-cisco-0-day-with-maximum-10-severity-gives-full-network-control/ https://www.tomshardware.com/news/cisco-backdoor-hardcoded-accounts-software,37480.html...

NAT-ed Internet IP address in log?

Yes, UPnP is off (at least the UI says it is).

NAT-ed Internet IP address in log?

Nope. I don't have any gaming equipment, and there shouldn't be any torrenting going on :D

NAT-ed Internet IP address in log?

The page listed is correct. I have an RT-AC68U. Okay, I have one port forwarded but no service listening on the local device at the moment. I don't know what else could cause a connection to be initiated from outside. I'll have to pay attention to the local port number next time. Thanks...

NAT-ed Internet IP address in log?

Sorry to be dunce, but I'm asking how my router can be translating any Internet address ever. NAT is for all the devices on my LAN, right?
  12. J

NAT-ed Internet IP address in log?

Why are "NATed" Internet/WAN IP addresses in my "System Log" > Connections > "System Log - Active Connections" ? I don't know how to understand this, as the only NAT-ing should be for my LAN addresses, right? example: Proto NATed Address Destination Address tcp...

    sniffing wireless traffic

Yeah, that was poorly worded. I meant companies/orgs that do sniffing on their networks. Thanks for the clear infos.

    sniffing wireless traffic

I'm thinking the wireless traffic would be visible just like the wired traffic - all the devices are on the same subnet. Colin, can you explain a bit more? So all the sniffing companies and such do are using an in-line device? I think my VM was giving me false hope, then. I just tested...

    sniffing wireless traffic

I'm on a wired Windows PC sniffing net traffic with tcpdump or Wireshark. I can't capture any Internet traffic for the wireless clients - all I get are internal broadcasts like SSDPs and ARPs. Is it not possible to capture Wi-Fi Internet traffic sniffing from and Ethernet client?

RT-AX82U - 2 clients are connecting through this device

How does the router tell you that devices are connecting thru your desktop?

Using a tethered mobile phone as an Access Point

I suppose it would be worth it only if your router didn't have Wi-Fi or else you have a 200' USB cable. If your phone can connect to the Internet thru the USB cable, I'd expect your hotspot idea to work. Try it and let us know.

    Comcast wants me to upgrade

No. You are probably getting what they are selling you. That suggested modem is also a DOCSIS 3.1. What is your Internet plan? I have a 1Gbps down/60Mbps up plan, with the same equipment as you, and I get what they sell me.

GL.iNet worth a try? Any advantage over ASUS?

I installed OpenWRT on an old router just to see what the original GUI looked like. I was looking to see how easy it was to do some simple tasks. One task was to toggle off Internet access for a client. Unless I am blind, the only way I could see to do this was to write a firewall rule for...

    Blocking Unknown Devices

"Connect to Wi-Fi networks like you normally do. A private Wi-Fi address doesn't affect how you join or use most Wi-Fi networks." So, I think the device will still use DHCP. I don't know how the device would know what IP's are not DHCP and are available. Private means a different MAC address...
