    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Getting this on executing first command line when trying to update: Unsure what it means but it looks like the download is not completing despite trying multiple times and on different laptops! Any clues as to what is wrong here? Thanks.

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Glad to say that Tailscale appears to have so far survived a couple of router reboots without requiring a manual restart. The GT-AX6000's JFFS quirks are indeed quite interesting and thank you for the prompt reminders of the various issues previously encountered and reported by others in this...

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Thanks again and all credit goes to @RandomUser777 and to @jksmurf and all the others on this forum for their valuable contributions. I will put the steps that I have followed exactley in case they will help anyone else going through this process: 1) Format USB drive using AMTM Format disk...

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Success finally!!! After umpteen trials and errors, finally managed to get it all working. My gut feeling is that all my problems lie with the two modded files, namely "firewall-start" and "services-start" not doing exactly what they are meant to do. This could, in fairness, be related to my...

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

I did indeed but as the default file appeared so different, I am now wondering if this is anything to do with the latest tailscale binaries possibly introducing a change that is making things less compatible. Are you also running the latest version? I will try your suggestion of changing the LAN...

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

One significant difference that I have found between what I have done and the instructions given is the default "ARGS line" of my "S06tailscaled" file within opt/etc/init.d/ and I am wondering if this could in anyway be implicated (although unlikely given that it sounds like a firewall -rather...

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Thank you again for your patience and help. Rebooted on multiple occasions and here is my CLI output:

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

So near, yet so far. I would be very grateful if you could please check whether the contents of your "firewall-start" and "services-start" files are the same as mine. I have tried adding the additional first lines (and your prior comments) as per screenshots as well but no joy: I have tried...

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Thank you again for the gentle hand-holding. Neither "firewall-start" nor "services-start" exist in my /jffs/scripts/ directory! I decided to create both manually, changed the permissions to mimic the file that is already there (namely: services-stop) and then just added the lines as per your...

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Apologies for being a pest again. Installed Entware and the first two packages went well but getting this with the third one: Unknown package 'tailscaled'. Collected errors: * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package tailscaled.

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Prepared USB drive and SSHed into router with no problem but getting this as soon as I input any of the commands from step 7: "-sh: opkg: not found". What am I doing wrong?

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Thanks a million for the super helpful and very detailed and comprehensive instruction. I will definitely have a go at this tonight and will report back. Much appreciated.

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Would it be at all possible for one of you kind souls here to summarise in an idiot-proof, easy, step-by-step way to get Tailscale to be up and running on my GT-AX6000? Reading through the earlier posts on here is like looking at a foreign newspaper to me and I would greatly appreciate some...

VPN FUSION & VPN DIRECTOR Merlin Firmware

Yes, exactly what @Viktor Jaep and @bennor have said here (and they are much more knowledgeable than I am).

VPN FUSION & VPN DIRECTOR Merlin Firmware

Just direct the individual device(s) to their respective VPN tunnel (and not the whole subnet as shown in your screenshot).

VPN FUSION & VPN DIRECTOR Merlin Firmware

Sorry but I don't use the Asus App at all (I don't think that many people here do). VPN Director is fairly easy to use and here is my setup that I have been using as an example: Field number one is to tell the router to route all traffic via the Wireguard Profile1. Fields 2-3 direct specific...

VPN FUSION & VPN DIRECTOR Merlin Firmware

Yes, VPN Director is far more superior than the old VPN fusion. It is much more stable with better options and functionality. I would have simply returned my router back to vendor had it not been for VPN director and how well it works compared to stock option.

    [ 3004.388.7 alpha 1 Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

I am too not a big fan of installing alpha firmware but have to say that this has a buttery smooth feel to it running quite nicely since yesterday with 70 clients, DDNS, Wireguard client and VPN director as well as NextDNS. Thank you @RMerlin .

    Tailscale on Asus RT-AX86U router

Congrats on getting it to work and very well done. Despite your great instruction this still sounds way above my paygrade and I have moved to the GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) mostly to have this feature built-in to router's GUI. I hope that one day @RMerlin or someone might incorporate this fantastic...
