    Ac86u issues

The appropriate way of testing your wireless speed is to use iperf3, which comes preinstalled in the router.

RT-86U - USB 2.0 port not mounting at boot.

You have to initialise the partition or file that you are using as swap space using the "mkswap" command before you can use "swapon" to enable it.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.17 (and 384.13_8) are now available

Could it be the same thing I'm seeing? https://www.snbforums.com/threads/5g-network-crashing-on-an-ac86u.63994/

5G network crashing on an AC86U

Unfortunately it keeps happening once a day. Channel is 0 but the MAC address is visible in the webui (other users mentioned they couldn't see it anymore). Additionally, one of the crashes didn't produce a trap message in the syslog. I've rolled back to 384.15. It was working fine there and the...

5G network crashing on an AC86U

Thank you. Channel was manually set, but I am going to set width to 80 MHz. (It was 20/40/80)

5G network crashing on an AC86U

Good insight. I've been looking at other threads and it seems most of the affected users had that problem right after booting, and not after a while of using the router. Truth is I've been playing a lot lately with the 5G settings, changing channels constantly, etc. because I wanted to see...

5G network crashing on an AC86U

That was 384.17, but I've just checked—it happens on 3.0.0.4.384_81858 also.

5G network crashing on an AC86U

Sometimes, like once a day, I get these messages (kernel trap, etc etc) and the 5G network stays visible but it does not accept any more clients. May 8 16:54:31 kernel: DUMP CONSOLE: 030028.174 wl1: STA xx:xx:xx:xx:bf:ab removed from MU client set. May 8 16:54:31 kernel: DUMP CONSOLE...

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

I haven't tried that, but if it's not a bandwidth limiter then it shouldn't say it is a bandwidth limiter. Many of my grievances with this feature are not about the technical side, but about the texts and labels: some are not fully detailed, some are misleading, and some are plain wrong.

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

What a joke: Lowest class is limited to 0.17 Mb/s... well guess what, it does whatever it wants.

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

Latest firmware obviously. No, it leads here: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1008718 — that link is broken. It matters because if you set some device or protocol as "low" priority you think you are deprioritising it, while in fact you are doing nothing at all since "low" was the default to...

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

I want to use Traditional QoS because I am competent enough to write my own QoS rules and I want to be able to fine-tune them. I have an ADSL connection, so the problem here is not that I'm reaching the limits of the router's CPU, I can assure you.

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

I tried to go back to stock and, while the performance of the QoS feature on Merlin is not that good, on the stock firmware QoS simply does not work at all! What a disappointing router for its price...

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

But that's what "Minimum Reserved Bandwidth" should be for... but, for some reason, it's only available for upload, and not for download. Which is yet another thing I do not understand.

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

I have had very erratic results setting up Traditional QoS and I would like to ask for comments. - The default priority seems to be "Low". That is unexpected, I had assumed it would be "Medium". This is not described anywhere in the web interface and knowing that would've saved me a lot of...

    Need help configuring Traditional QoS

Hello, I've got an RT-AC86U and I need help configuring Traditional QoS. From what I can see in the "User-defined priorities" panel, ICMP has the highest priority. In other words, even if I'm using 100% of my download bandwidth, ICMP packets should not be delayed. I assume that, for QoS to...
