Missing antenna and AIMesh node dropouts - related?

It is never a good idea to operate radio transmitters without antenna. For sure it will have a negative effect on the link in your Mesh system and hopefully it will not damage the radio chip in your router.

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

I can imagine you run in a conflict between the AX and AC based routers. Do you connect the Media Bridge at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

The Media Bridge setup does not give you many wireless settings, you can only specify the SSID of the router you want to connect to. What firmware is in the router and in the media bridge? These settings are for the RT-AC68U Router: Advanced Settings - Wireless - Professional - 2.4 GHz...

    RT-AC68U to RT-AX86U Pro

The RT-AX86U Pro will be returned, the RT-AC68U is back in service due to issues with 2.4 GHz. I have to recall my earlier advise and now say: do not buy an AX router as long as you have a mix of AX with AC or N devices (or AC and N only). See here.

Done all that, connections deleted / forget and connect again. Same settings as the RT-AC68U, or factory defaults, AX disabled, beamforming on / off, fixed channel (after checking what channel seems best with a site scan) and auto channel, fixed IP address set in the printer or fixed assigned by...

2.4 GHz is basically set to N only, with the "usual" additional features disabled (like I have on the RT-AC68U). Not only the printer show disconnects, also the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 frequently lost the connection. Things are back stable with the RT-AC68U.

RT-AX86U PRO page now up ...

I think the RT-AX86U Pro will be returned the coming days. Despite various settings it is not able to keep up connections at 2.4 GHz with e.g. the printer. The good old RT-AC68U is back in place, if that turns out to be stable again it is bye bye to the RT-AX86U Pro.

The firmware glitches are most likely related to all the branches of the same firmware base for the numerous different router versions. It seems to lack a clear modular structure to allow use or change of the different modules for the different routers, resulting in irrelevant left overs from...

    Beta RT-AX86U_Pro Beta firmware 9.0.0.6.102_3506

The GT-AX6000 seems to be 4x4 on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, where the RT-AX86U Pro "only" is 3x3 on 2.4 GHz. I honestly doubt what client hardware can deal with 4x4 on 2.4 GHz. My major reason to pick the RT-AX86U Pro is the vertical form factor, the router is positioned on a rather small shelf.

RT-AX86U PRO page now up ...

I got the RT-AX86U Pro as replacement for the good old RT-AC68U, it compares like the VW beetle of years ago to a modern E-Car. My use is quite plain and straight forward with a RT-AC1900U as Media Bridge. One setting I can not exactly justify yet: 802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode, this is shown under...

    RT-AC68U to RT-AX86U Pro

Today I replaced the RT-AC68U main router with a RT-AX86U Pro. There was no need for AX and no need for higher Internet speed (the subscription is 200 /200 Mbps), but after over 6 years of 24/7 service I thought it was time to upgrade. The RT-AC68U will replace the RT-N66U as spare router. First...

Oh right...I ordered one, a nice upgrade for the RT-AC68U after many years of excellent service.

AC3100 randomly partially or fully stops routing traffic periodically

The robot vacuum cleaner uses Wi-Fi and you believe to see some relation to the problem, hence you get Wi-Fi related suggestions. As long as you stay vague about your setup, the suggestions will be vague. With 81 devices connected to you router, it might be that the router runs out of memory or...

AC3100 randomly partially or fully stops routing traffic periodically

Without knowing your exact setup or router configuartion, I suggest: Guideline in case of unexplained router behavior: If there are, disconnect all USB devices. Install the latest available firmware version. Reset to factory defaults. Do not load an old configuration backup...

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

An issue with 5 GHz was long ago fixed in 3.0.0.4.384.81049 All I can think of is a mismatch of supported 5 GHz channels between the Router and Media Bridge: check which channels the Router does support and temporay set the Media Bridge device in Router mode to see what 5 GHz channels are...

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

It doesn't matter what brand and type main router you have, set up the Media Bridge with fixed IP settings as I outlined and your issues will be gone. Don't let the main router DHCP give the Media Bridge an IP address.
