Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

So, sounds like UPNP isn't dangerous as long as used responsibly and it's really just riding on the time you mentioned that gave it a bad name pretty much.

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

is it that old? I thought it was within the last 5 years or so when more UPNP problems started showing up

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

Well maybe it was something else in conjunction to UPNP that was on by default like the game options, or the media server. Either of which I have disabled as I don't need them.

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

This is the screen I got initially with the RT-AX86U with UPNP enabled, under the 386 line of firmware:https://www.grc.com/su/UPnP-Exposed.htm Now it's the "DID NOT RESPOND" page. So Asus must have closed any holes with the more recent firmwares.

OK, turned on UPNP this morning in WAN settings, and ran ShieldsUP!, good news, I was not alerted to the router responding to the probes. Heads up to Asus on fixing this. Going to leave it enabled for a bit to see how overall Network performance is. Curious if I have anything running that has...

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

Thank you @TexasFlood I haven't used UPNP on the new 88 firmware, so Asus may have made changes since 86 xx. I just remember that when it was enabled under WAN settings the router would always respond to the probes which isn't the most secure, based on what they probe for. I'm not so much...

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

Well, unless Asus has updated something recently, whenever I ran the tests with UPNP enabled under WAN, it would always be flagged as "at risk". With the TP-Link implantation of UPNP, it either comes back with the connection attempts were blocked, or the equipment didn't respond at all. So...

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

Well, as I've mentioned before, I would have preferred to stay with Apple AirPort products, but was forced to look for a new solution as far as support going forward when Apple got out of the router market. For the most part Apple covered most of my needs so it was easier to stay with one...

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

I currently have the RT-AX86 plus a Netgear Prosafe (8 port gigabit switch) and a prosafe 5 port gigabit switch (not in use) I also have a TP-Link AX4400 router that I had purchased before the Asus that is still receiving firmware updates. Latest one was from last month. The main reason I...

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

If I was going to buy again, I'd consider the 88U Pro over the 86U Pro, with the new hardware, it would probably be more of an upgrade to justify the cost. It would also give me more LAN ports on the router directly. Right now though, the 86U is working as needed. Plus I want to hold onto it...

It took 48 hours, but the mystery of the mass Asus router outage is solved

I saw this thread and skimmed through it out of curiosity. Since I have the latest 3.88 release, and never knew this was an issue since my router net stopped working, Is there still any reason to reboot as a safety measure at this point? Based on the thread reports, and the fact I have an...

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

OH I wasn't sure what you meant with your comment the first time around. Now I follow you, you're saying the router may still auto update even with the setting turned off. So far, I've never had either router auto update, I've always done it manually. Maybe I catch in time.

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

@bbunge Well as I said, I have auto update on the Asus disabled, but check manually from time to time, and then check here for any problem reports, and then update. On the TP-Link router, I feel comfortable leaving auto update on, when I use it because I feel they don't release bad firmware...

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

I don't even enable auto-update on my Asus router. don't trust the updates. I enabled it on my TP-Link router, because they usually provide more stable firmware based on my experience with the two. I'm mainly using the Asus now, because of the extra features it has, but ultimately I could use...

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

Well, no, but that sounds like an isolated issue with your setup, since no one else here has reported that. Maybe a power cycle, or a factory reset, if you're really concerned about it, or if you're having any additional problems in conjunction to this one.

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

In my setup, no, I have my phone, bulbs echo speakers and a nest audio on wireless, and haven't had any sort of connection interruptions. Thought I would also include my Sony android TV, I don't use it much online, but I have it connected mainly for updates.

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

What issue did it NOT solve? updating, or simply updating through the download option. Depending on who you talk to, some say it's more reliable to download the file from Asus, then flash in the UI. I personally have done it both ways, but haven't had issues either way.

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

Click the support link in the firmware section of the Web UI, and see if you can download the firmware from the Asus support site for your router, and then manually flash within the Web UI.

    Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 (15-05-2023)

I've only used Asus for a little under a year, mainly because Apple got out of the router market. If they hadn't I'd probably still be using an AirPort of some kind because they just work and I've had very little need to be concerned with glitches. In fact, I still have the last model they...
