Honest review of Asus WRT 5.0 (3.0.0.6 Branch)

@Smokey613 So the newly announced VLAN feature doesn't work for most people. I really don't know what Asus firmware engineers were doing these 6 months when it was in Beta? The whole settings being flakey and UI sluggishness puts me off Asus overpriced junk.

Honest review of Asus WRT 5.0 (3.0.0.6 Branch)

@rudoyeugene OMG I too faced the same issue few weeks back. But I just gave up on Dual WAN because it's not Asus' cup of tea.

Honest review of Asus WRT 5.0 (3.0.0.6 Branch)

I have been using the Asus WRT 5.0 firmware 3.0.0.6 release on my GT-AX6000 for a month and here are my views Firmware version: 3.0.0.6.102_21514 Pros Multiple VLANS on same WAN Guest networks Cons It is extremely buggy firmware where mere changing and applying a setting renders whole UI...

Ethernet Port Status -AX92U- FW 3.0.0.4.388_23630-g9d6ee22

It's an old bug which was fixed recently for other routers. Wait for fix in next firmware.

Beta ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 Firmware version 9.0.0.6.102.3506

Looks like this will go RT-AX89X way. Great product but ultimately ignored to focus more on High End BE (Wifi7) models.

    Asus firmware problems

Tell that to their upper management who are totally running blind. I believe they have 2 separate teams and that is the reason they have several overlapping products and wasting resources.

Release ASUS GT-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_21514

This firmware has slow as molasses 2.5G LAN port and takes ages to initialize. My PC gets a local IP after 1 minute of booting into Windows. I am using Marvell AQC107s based PCIe card and it has no problems with any other 2.5G router or switch. Only this slowness to initialize on Asus GT-AX6000...

Problems with GT-AX6000 after the factory reset: transmit queue 0 timed out

The only issue I have with my AX6000 is that it takes a good amount of time (30 sec to 1 minute) to establish a 2.5G link even if I manually assign a static IPv4 on windows adapter properties. I use Marvell Aquantia 10G PCIe card and it works flawlessly on all 2.5G or 10G routers/switches where...

Release ASUS GT-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_21514

Just factory reset and try again. No NTP date and time issues here

    RT-AX88U VLAN Support (3.0.0.6)

The Non-Pro will not receive 3.0.0.6 firmware. VLAN support can be backported by Asus into older 3.0.0.4 firmware but so far, there has been no news about it and it's best to assume that support might not even come as asus would want you to buy their newer shiny Routers that have support.

    BQ16 Pro Quad Band

How hard is for Asus to include 1 10G SFP+ Ethernet combo port for WAN? We could ditch out ONUs and use just a single device with GPON SFP ONUs.

Release ASUS GT-AX11000 Pro Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_23556 (2023/06/20)

Great stable firmware this. Now waiting for 3.0.0.6.102 series

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

These routers are pure disappointment as they missed a golden chance to include a 10G SFP+ port like TP-Link BE routers. 10G SFP+ port could give many of us a chance to get rid of their Fiber ONU/ONT and just use a SFP+ GPON stick and have a clean setup like RT-AX89X did. These Asus routers also...

    Release ASUS RT-AX88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22525 (16-02-2023)

Non-Pro It's definitely not EOL but it will receive less frequent firmware updates and be feature locked to 388 firmware. You have to upgrade to Pro Model or any model having Broadcom CPU BCM4912

    Release ASUS RT-AX88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22525 (16-02-2023)

I believe all the Non-Pro skus will receive step motherly treatment hence forth as Asus is busy in cooking x.0.0.6.102_xxxx firmwares for newer Broadcom SOC

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

My friend has 3 of them in Mesh and he says they have been stable for him since 3 years and he only rebooted them after firmware upgrade. Maybe it's one's own personal setup which certain models don't like.

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

The AX88U never achieved stability like ever. My current 2 x GT-AX11000 Pros are running stable in Mesh since 3 weeks (Without a single reboot). This is like a new personal record for uptime. My previous 2x RT-AX88Us used to lock up randomly and even after pressing reboot button inside web gui...

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

The RT-AX88U and the AC88U I had previously, had the same problem. The ports 1-4 were slow AF and 5-8 ports were fast to initialize.

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

I mean the SOC in it first appeared in RT-AX88U which released in Jan 2019. That is more than 4 years.

Do you guys feel any difference between AX86U and Pro?

The non-pro version's SOC is 4 years old and reaching end of timely firmware updates. (It appeared in RT-AX88U in Jan 2019) It will also not get latest Broadcom sdk so feature wise it will stay on same 388 firmware hence forth. Merlin has said it that even though the SOC speed is slight...
