RT-AC86U intermittently but constantly dropping Internet Connection

In my experience 95+% of the time these issues are with the ISP...their servers or their infrastructure...including the drop to your residence. When this happens, the first thing I do is run a line monitor to try to capture the timing/frequency of the outages and the latency of the line before...

    NAS Help Required

A synology DS120j would be a perfect single drive media server as well as a backup solution. Only $107. The two drive version, the DS220j is $170. Add a second drive at some point to have raid 1 mirroring. Synology is a solid product in this marketplace. I have a two drive model for the last 6...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

RT-AC86U running beta 3...for no apparent reason the router restarted on its own this morning. Installed beta 3 over beta 2. Beta 2 installed over beta 1. When beta 1 was installed did a full clear/reset then reformatted jffs partition as I was running the alphas. No extra software installed. No...

    Problems with CloudFlare DoT

Most of the time Cloudflare works great. Then one day a few sites don't resolve. Changing to another DNS provider fixes it immediately. No changes needed in my network/router. I have this with Asus/Merlin and with Pfsense. I usually wait 24-48 hours and switch back to Cloudflare and all is well...

    Problems with CloudFlare DoT

Yes, I have also been having periodic issues...and it is not related to Asus/Merlin routers. I see some sites periodically not loading with any Cloudflare DNS IPs (1.1.1.1, 1.1.1.2, 1.1.1.3) and will load fine when I switch to Quad 9. After a few days I check Cloudflare again and all is...

Windows 10 will implement DNS DoH in version 21H1

I do this as well with a Pfsense rule that works for client DNS inquiries sent on the standard port 53. If the client is using DOH, that is encrypted at the client and goes out on port 443 along with all other encrypted web traffic so the router cannot redirect the DNS request. I really don't...

Hi Guys, wanna ask about cloudflare DOT 1.1.1.2 on Merlin's DNS Privacy Protocol settings

1.1.1.2 DOES support DOT. Has for months. Using it right now on Pfsense router.

Problem with Guest Network (Wrong Password)

Try this: Under Wireless, Professional scroll down until you see DTIM and if the setting is 1 change it to 3. Apple devices prefer DTIM=3 and the mistaken WiFi password issues are one of the symptoms. Side benefit is that you might see slightly better battery performance.

Changed ISP, now devices are disconnecting?

Does the ISP supplied modem have WiFi? If so, it might be on the same channel as the Asus router causing interference. If you are not using the ISP router WiFi, turn it off or verify the channels are not interfering

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.14 (and 384.13_2) are now available

Be sure to check the hash of the RT-AC86U_384.14_2_cferom_ubi.w file, not the .zip file. I use the utility Hasher...

    NAS recommendation

Unless you have a switch that supports link aggregation it won't work. Also, link aggregation will not give you 2000 Mbps speed, It will only possibly help if you have multiple clients that max out the single network connection. Even multiple clients using Plex generally won't do that. I'd save...

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.11 Beta is now available

Sorry...the listing was hard to follow...looked like 9.9.9.10 was the secondary address

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.11 Beta is now available

Quad 9 has addresses that support their extra security. These are 9.9.9.9 as the primary address and 149.112.112.112 as a secondary address. 9.9.9.10 is a valid DNS address but does not support the extra security features of Quad 9

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.11 Beta is now available

The IPv4 addresses for Quad 9 Secure IP are not correct. This is from the Quad 9 info page: <<Secure IP: 9.9.9.9 Provides: Security blocklist, DNSSEC, No EDNS Client-Subnet sent. If your DNS software requires a Secondary IP address, please use the secure secondary address of 149.112.112.112...

Need help in how to set up a proposed network solution

If you get an access point that handles VLANs this is easily done. The AC3200 won't do for this application. FYI, individual Ubiquiti Unifi access points support 4 SSIDs using VLANs. I have this working well here though only using 3 SSIDs.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 is now available

On my 86U running 364.6, I just opened a WAN port to allow remote access and I noticed this entry in the log...anything to be concerned about? kernel: jffs2: warning: (713) jffs2_sum_write_data: Not enough space for summary, padsize = -1301

    Spectrum Internet slowdown with RT-AC86U

Actually, no I don't have Spectrum...I did in the past but had many service related issues. Regardless, I've had 100, 300, and 1 gigabit service from my currect provider and yes, unless you are downloading lots of files I was perfectly happy with 100 service. I was offered a free upgrade to 300...

    Spectrum Internet slowdown with RT-AC86U

You probably won't see anything faster than 45-50 Mbps on 2.4GHz. 5GHz is much faster. I have 300/300 bandwidth and with the 86U and on 5GHz I can get the full 300 on current devices...on 2.4GHz, 45-50 tops
