    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware 3.0.0.4.380.3831

Anyone actually using this yet? How is it performing? Did they finally close the ability to go back to previous builds using the recovery utility?

    RT-AC68U Version 3.0.0.4.380.3831

That is correct. It wasn't a "bug" in the previous but a new design. Once on the 380.xxx builds they have a new authentication model to not allow firmware previous to 380.xxx to be installed. Going forward you can go back to previous 380 builds but not for example to 378.xxx or 374.xxx builds.

A little bit of pushing my RT-N66U

So in comparison to the previous version are you saying this version is better or worse or about the same? Wonder if they closed the ability to go back to before the 380.xx builds using the firmware restore utility?

    ASUS RT-N66U Firmware 3.0.0.4.380.3831

Wonder if they closed the "go back" loophole with this version?

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.59 is now available

You may also want to try out Johns fork if you are rocking an N66. Most agree thats about the best version for that particular router. (and the older MIPS based routers). You will loose some of the "pretty" gui features since the 374 builds so be aware of that. Oh and now that you are off the...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Yes the TX power. You can experiment but I wouldnt recommend setting to 200 personally but thats just me. 100-120 may be a good place. Again it depends on your particular environment. On the phone, I would forget the network, reboot it then re-join the network. That updates the wireless...

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

Well no doubt. I wondered why they were EVER under Win7 32 bit or Windows 10 64bit. That NEVER made any since to me and sometimes you could find a particular one under say Win7 but not Win 8.1. Now if they didnt call it "others" under OS. Still not very clear where to find firmware and other...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Yes resetting to to defaults is definitely recommended. No need to flash again though. The process is flash/update THEN reset defaults. Also this fork still has the option to adjust TX power. You may want to play with that. Setting too high could actually make things worse due to creating...

I know right. 2695 is still showing as beta and they went directly to 3264 with this change.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Yeah it is true and has happened. Even the statement you referenced says "The firmware verification method will be modified in next formal firmware release." The latest one 380.3264 that dropped 5/12 has the following in release notes: "ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware 3.0.0.4.380.3264 Releases note...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

A lot of N66 users feel Johns fork works the best for this model. The 374 code base has a super stable wifi driver apparently. Certainly worth a try. If you are using a simple configuration write down your particular settings so you can set them back up afterwards. More complex setup you may...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.59 is now available

May want to checkout Johns fork for the N66. The word is that is the best FW for that model.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.59 is now available

For the record ASUS stock 378. 9533 has intermittent slow UI issues randomly as well. Seems it gets bad then all of a sudden works fine without doing anything. Also see page 3 post from RMerlin.

[BETA] Asuswrt-Merlin 380.59 Beta 1 is now available

Mostly wifi sweetspots for device to router and smartspeed app on Phones and tablets. From laptops I use my local ISP's speedtest and Verizon or google fiber speedtest typically. I am not using any "real" network throughput tests. These all tell me what I am looking for.

[BETA] Asuswrt-Merlin 380.59 Beta 1 is now available

Well hell boy, I hope family approves. We certainly wouldn't want ASUS worried that you may get your DLINK back out of the closet :) HA. On a serious note, I too had the DIR-655 for years but I can tell you hands down the ASUS AC66 is miles better. Throughput was no match between the two nor...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Well 1st you need to state which router you are using in your posts here to help get the correct answer. Also take a look at post#1 to see if its a supported model for this firmware. If so, after you login the router, simply click on the firmware version up top (on most routers) and it will...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Interesting enough, during the testing I did toggle NAT acceleration off then back on and the 1st test I ran over AC wifi increased. I was going to post that it seems CTF wasnt working and toggling CTF seems to have solved it. But it stopped again so I figured it was just coincidence. But...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

So downgraded to v17e5 then 16e1 then 14 and no change. Cleared NVRAM a few times no help. Just 200mb was the max I could get in speedtest while on LAN via router, 650-900 direct to modem. Finally flashed ASUS latest stock version 378.9533 and its fixed, 650-660 were the last tests I ran...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

No new modem. just changed the IP address it connects to (so they said) to point to new servers. Dunno because as I said I was already getting 500/600 before they did anything. And I can get those speeds (even 850/900) direct connected to modem. Maybe I will downgrade to 16 and see what...
