[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

You need to say what router/model you are referring to. I would download and use the application Inssider and look for the best channel to select if you are in a crowded area. Also for me AC66, and other older MIPS routers the 376 builds seem to work better than the 378 and later. Mostly the...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Also to note TWC in my area setup theirs to use 40mhz on the 2.4 band! So those neighbors are stepping all over the place . I am in a suburban neighborhood with probably 25+ wifi networks that can be seen. With 3-4 of those new TWC using 40 mhz. Yeah one would think they would know better than...

    378.56_2 on RT-N66U insanely slow... :-(

I would get a more modern ISP. :) Sorry couldn't resist that one. DSL ? eeks. You can read from page 1 and see lots of N66 users as well as others who swear by this fork. Myself wifi seems more stable . I would get massive slowdowns and would have to disconnect and reconnect fairly often to...

    378.56_2 on RT-N66U insanely slow... :-(

Also I would remove the wifi connections from your devices and reconnect as new since this rev uses different wireless driver versions. From the Merlin [userguide]-tips on the main ASUS wireless topic: <<Try deleting the wireless profile from your device, and reconnecting as if it was a new...

    378.56_2 on RT-N66U insanely slow... :-(

Not using this version but the N66 and the AC66 (older MIPS routers) seem to perform better on the older 374 firmware builds. May want to try Johns fork as its pretty much understood that fork and the N66 are a great match.

    [Beta] RT-AC87U 9.0.0.4.378.9110

Have you tried to forget the network on the iOS device? iOS9 has changed the wifi components and dropped the discoveryd that seems to have been an issue for a while now and gone back to mDNSResponder. Just a thought. I would forget the connection and probably even perform the "reset network...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

BTW John, thanks for keeping this fork going. So far working great. I do simply use the router in basic config as a wireless router. Nothing fancy setup. Signal great, speed great no issues for me so far. Seem as stable as previous versions.

Well if it were me I would select London and see what time appears. If its incorrect select the other one ;)

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

Yes here is a nice write-up explaining it all with various options to clear nvram. http://www.snbforums.com/threads/faq-nvram-and-factory-default-reset.22822/

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

The problem most likely isn't with 378.55 but your process. Its completely useless to factory reset once much less twice if you are restoring a backup afterwards. That totally negates either of the resets you do.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

You should have a backup router in that environment. Then dump configs down so they are duplicated. Then you can switch them as needed easily with minimal down time and flash and reconfigure the spare before putting it back in production. The reset may very well solve any issues you have with...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

I'll second and have to say on the AC66 (MIPS) performance is definitely better than any of the later builds. I went up through Merlin 378.54_1 and while I liked the UI changes of the latter builds the wifi performance and throughput of the 374 code base seems to be better at least on the older...

    Naming SSID for 2.4g & 5g

You will get a lot of votes either way. I suspect more here will opt for different SSIDs as folks here love to tinker and fool with stuff constantly :) but there are several articles around that say same SSID is the way to go. Definitely easier to manage as most devices will select the best...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Well this is configurable in the UI as well. Point being that was a bug that has been around for a while that was addressed in this release. But still didn't seem to work. So I was reporting it basically. But thanks for the info although I am not exactly sure what that will do.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

More info here and see the link toward the bottom regarding Johns Tool/restore utility. That should help with the restore.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

Got you. I suspect the new login is here to stay so alternate methods (like a password manager or SSH) are in your future.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

So why not go back to a version before the new login change? If you dont really care about security then any security fixes in the new builds would be of no benefit to you. Also the "pretty" GUI changes while are nice are not really necessary either. I am using Johns fork on an AC66 and it works...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Well did a factory reset this weekend working on a small issue I was having ( turns out not the router) and noticed that the Max TCP connections were reset back to 16387 again not the 300,000 as default that was addressed in this build (or 13j). Something apparently still off at lease for the AC66.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

I would say read the change logs since V10 and see . There have been a lot of changes and updates since V10 and V13 seems to work just as well as far as I can tell. So basically there are zero reasons NOT to but definitely some reasons to. And certainly if you use VPN or IPv6 and such there...
