RT-AC68U 5GHz RF stopped working. Weird CPU temp.

Please, don't post Microsoft's canned prescripts HERE. It is not a S&M forum. For reasonable people, I repeat. The problem is in overheating RF frontend. The temp, monitored by Merlin is not related to the problem. CPU and both RF MACs have basic 2-2.5mm soft heat-taking pads. Other RF chips...

RT-AC68U 5GHz RF stopped working. Weird CPU temp.

I guess, I know what triggered the problem. Two months ago I moved to new larger apartments, so the working laptop moved behind two cement walls. The router should have started tuning itself to higher power. I disassembled it and found that amplifiers there have no thermal pads, soldered just...

RT-AC68U 5GHz RF stopped working. Weird CPU temp.

RT-AC68U 5GHz started disappearing after a few hours after every reboot. Stops both broadcasting SSID and receiving. I have this router for almost two years. It was working fine until yesterday, when it started. 2.4GHz works fine as before. There is nothing special running on the router. No...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

    >No, it is there so the manufacturer can print "USB port" as a feature on the box Naturaly, it means "by design". Law-obeying manufactures can not print anything on the box if it is not intended by design. There are special compliance trainings for product managers in companies, particularly for...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

as I said before, no doubt there are other "dark ways" of reaching stars... most of such are related to lucky coincidences of magical usb adapters, and extra steps, like burning a boot dvd on a system which does not boot... etc. I, personally, prefer just plug in the USB-HDD, and leave it doing...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

Did you try restoring from it after actual failure? I tried. 1. it is not reliable 2. The most important - it does not support WiFi, so SMB is just useless when restoring. - the most appropriate approach is getting the USB disk directly attached to laptop. And no, modern compact laptops do not...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

That's exactly what I was always doing. But when dealing with photos, or old user files, you always want to get a specific file quickly...There are a lot of automatic unattended synching software. So I reached the driver file limit. >You are pushing beyond parameters of device design and power...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

When restoring a partition, you can not access SMBm at least by wi-fi. Except some rare cases of very old wi-fi adapters, which may be supported by boot-ware. Well, there are always ways of reaching stars rectally. But I think, just attaching an NTFS-formatted USB-recovery HDD is the right way...

    USB Hard Drive and 87U

Merlin says the automount will not pick it up, so there are more things to do. I have a lot of job till January, so I probably postpone the quest :( . Decided to remove all synched files and get back to storing packed drive images.

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

Oh, I thought it acts as drop-in replacement. Is there a way to reconfigure automount? Unfortunately, ext-FS are useless by concept for windows backups. And using external USB drive is the most convenient way to restore anything. It looks like I have to abandon the idea of synching files...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

Oh, thank you for attention. Do you mean that even this will not work? https://www.snbforums.com/threads/usb-hard-drive-and-87u.29696/#post-522110 I did not make it yet.

Colin, thank you very much for clarifying!

    USB Hard Drive and 87U

I think we are talking about different things. Lets forget about ExtFAT forever, and about attached HDD for a while. How can I create that loopback in the walkthrough above, if there is no mkfs.ext4? Since I definitely have problems with bundled NTFS driver, I want to try the "ntfs-3g" mentioned...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

we We did not, but NTFS and NT itself were a certain attempt to create a non-orthodox foundation for the future. So, today's volumes are inside the design scopes. It should work. BTW, I tried attaching it back. Between last experiment and this time, another K of files were added to the...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

"in the best position to answer your own question. You say that you can't add any more files" My experience with linux boxes is not enough to tell for sure. technically, it was an added pile of files, there also were other backups before that, and something in sysvol-folder. so I guess, that is...

    USB Hard Drive and 87U

eemm... I had impression that it is not about storage, but about installer writing to JFFS... at this stage HDD is not even attached. But if I can not make this "loopback" (I have no Idea how it works) with mkfs.ext4, what should I do? Well, about exfats and ext4 on external drive - it is not...

    USB Hard Drive and 87U

What would be directions for the new Merlin version 384? In 384, JFFS is already mounted, and SSH installed. But I have zero experience with things described, starting from "create a loopback"...what? mkfs.ext4 fails with "mkfs.ext4: not found" message. I have somewhat similar issues with 1Tb...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

@Adamm You can always image your hard drive 1. Of course I can't . Nobody can do this "always". But a scheduled task can do it to available NAS, which is always available when you come home. 2. This is OFF TOPIC, that's why it was written in small letters, specifically to give a reasoned answer...

Is there a limit to total files # in NTFS driver? (Merlin v.384.13/ AC68U)

Here, "Samba bug with admin login", I came to conclusion, that all my problems with SAMBA are related to NTFS partition, or to how it is accessed by the router, to be precise. I want to confirm, is there a limitation to total number of files in NTFS driver, used in Merlin firmware? At the...

    Samba bug with admin login

Colin, you just told an interesting thing... not full No, it is not. But I suddenly discovered that I can create no more than 2 files through samba, or 1 directory and 1 file. Well, directory is a kind of file reference. And it hit in my head, that yesterday, before deciding to split access...
