New models to be introduced with 3006.102.2

Great to hear this info. I think this will make many people patient in waiting for 3006.

New models to be introduced with 3006.102.2

Yes on VLAN and GN Pro. I think many people also assume that 3006 has an improved code base.

New models to be introduced with 3006.102.2

At least ASUS is still releasing 3006 FWs for the promised AX models. I think that suggests there is hope that we'll eventually get a Merlin version.

Release ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_24374 (2024/09/27)

There are definitely some nice new features with 3006, but 3004 has been pretty good for me these last few months. FWIW, the recent 3004 and 3006 release notes indicate significant code overlap between the two variants. The main thing I've done is script my AP so that devices on the guest...

Release ASUS RT-AX88U Pro Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_33320 (2024/09/27)

This is the exact same wording as used for the XT8 3.0.0.4.388_24668 FW release. This is very interesting because it suggests a significant under-the-hood improvement applied to both the 3004 and 3006 FW tracks. Now is ASUS would stop introducing a new wifi router every few months and focus on...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_24668 (2024/09/24)

The description of the changes sounds substantial.

Found a way to make AImesh nodes to have different channels!

Its been understood for a while that using the same channel is supposed to be problematic, but this is the first proof I've seen that it really is problematic for Aimesh setups.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

The GT-AX6000, RT-AX88U Pro, and RT-AX86U Pro all use similar hardware. They'll likely all be EOL'ed at around the same time, so pick the one that best meets your needs.

Is triband going to become the new norm?

Thanks. I was wondering if 2 bands on 1 chip is possible.

Are the new RT-BE96U / GT-BE98_PRO really worth it over my current Asus RT-AX88U?

The primary value in changing to a newer router will be the ability to run ASUS WRT 5.0 firmware. The RT-AX88U will not be receiving this firmware, so if there are features in WRT 5.0 that you want, then that would be a reason to change to a newer router, although I would look at routers other...

Is triband going to become the new norm?

The price of a RT-BE96U is definitely way beyond what most people are willing to pay. However, the RT-AXE7800 is affordable. Its not BE, and I have no idea if its a quality product, but it has 6 GHz. Interestingly, I just read a review of the RT-AXE7800 on Amazon from a reviewer who indicates...

Is triband going to become the new norm?

Now that the 6 GHz band is available, I wonder whether ASUS (and other vendors) will focus on making triband the new norm for their affordable performance routers. Will models like the 88U and 86U be transitioned to a triband? Having another high speed band available certainly has value in...

    Time to replace my RT-AC88U

I generally agree that saturating even a 1 gbps ethernet with wifi traffic from an AX88U Pro or AX86U Pro is unlikely, but I'll take whatever extra headroom I can get.

    Time to replace my RT-AC88U

A single 2.5 gbe port is useful for interfacing the wifi router wireless traffic to a multi-gig switch. Speaking of EOL, Netgear EOLed my MS-510TX multigig switch within 3 years of introduction. Gotta love Netgear for their short product lifetime cycle.

vpn problems in asuswrt merlin 3004.388.8

I needed this fix for my ASUS router site-to-site bi-directional OVPN to fully work in both directions.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_2 is now available

Switched from 388.7 to 388.8 on my GT-AX6000 main/AP combo a few days ago. No issues so far. I see some discussion in this thread of OVPN issues, but I'm not seeing any with my site-to-site OVPN link to an RT-AX86U Pro running 388.8a1.

    2x essentially new RT-AX88U Pro

I bought 2x RT-AX88U Pro from Amazon Resale. They look brand new. One appears to have never been removed from the original shipping bag. I briefly tried one and configured to Merlin 388.8 beta1. I have decided that I don't need them. I got one for $155 and the other for $165. I'm still in...
