    BT Smarthub Replacement

Yes you do, but it already comes in bridge mode by default once you fire it up - so you don't really need to touch the settings on the Draytek (unless updating the firmware). You simply setup a PPPoE connection on the router and Bobs yer uncle :)

Home Network - Wifi Adapter Inquiry

Ok, its a shame you cannot use the Asus PCE-88 wifi card as that card is easily the best wifi card at the moment. IMHO Powerline adaptors are hit & miss, they may work very well for you or may not depending on your power circuit - they're very sensitive to noise. Otherwise a USB wifi adaptor...

    Cheapest reliable wireless router

I would go for a Netgear R6300V2. Rock solid router, you just set it up and forget about it.

Does the TP-Link Archer C5400X Have Guest “Isolation” or Full Network Access

Have you had a gander at the C5400X emulator? https://www.tp-link.com/resources/simulator/webpages_C5400Xv1/index.html

Home Network - Wifi Adapter Inquiry

You don't say if its for a laptop PC or a desktop PC, if the latter then I would forget about a USB and instead go for a PCI wifi card such as the Asus PCE-AC88. Its a 4x4 wifi card and a perfect match for your RT-AC88U (4x4 stream router).

GT-AC5300 Band steering which setup is best

The GT-AC5300 does NOT support merlin fw. Perhaps you have a RT-AC5300 rather than a GT-AC5300?

    BT Smarthub Replacement

Yep the Draytek 130 is still a great VDSL2 modem and is ideal for pairing up with a standalone router of your choice :)

    wireless router recommendations

I would forget about the AX routers for now, unless you fancy being a beta tester. I would also forget about the Asus ROG GT-AC5300 and Netgear XR700 unless you fancy having a router with bugs galore. The latter has only just been released and its firmware is very unstable. Ditto for the ROG...

    Synology RT1900ac vs Asus Ac86u

As VPN isn't important to you, i would go for the Synology RT2600AC (or Netgear R7800) as they will both be better than the Asus AC86u for wifi coverage.

Bought new router - not sure "where to plug it"

Excellent choice going for the D Link DIR-882, its far better than the Asus RT-AC66UB1 for wifi performance and comparable to the Netgear R7800. Going by your setup, it seems you have a FTTH/P connection. Based on your descriptions, the first box will be a Customer Splice Point (CSP) to which...

Router Buying Advice, Asus Vs Netgear Vs TP-Link?

For budget of $100 or less, I would go for the Netgear R6300v2.

Netgear R7800 for £119.99 on Amazon

Great price for this if you're in the UK/Europe for arguably the best router out there for wifi. Its only on sale for the next day or so though. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01B4X503S/?tag=smallncom-21

Great price on the RT-AC86U Amazon £152.99

Or if VPN isn't important, then you could save even more money by buying the Netgear R7800 which is a better router for wifi. Its currently priced at £119.99 on Amazon for a limited time, which is a great price considering it normally retails for around £160.

AC68P - Upgraded to Gigabit internet - receive 1 gbps over ethernet but 250 mpbs over 5G wifi

OP, Perhaps its time to upgrade your router to a better one for wifi if wifi speeds are important? On my Linksys EA9500v2 I'm easily hitting 310 Mbps on 802.11ac on most of my wifi clients - this is on a FTTH 330/30 Mbps line. Maybe go for a better (for wifi) router such as Netgear R7800 or...

So what way should i go?

The R9000/XR700 is probably the best router in terms of providing great wifi coverage and with a plex server built-in. It has pretty impressive hardware specs and i'm sure that quadcore CPU will come in handy when transcording plex streams real time. If you need better wifi, why not add an...

News NETGEAR Stealthily Goes Public With Its Draft 11ax Routers

I agree to a point, but let's not forget that 802.11ax appears to be the true successor to 802.11n (ie works on both 2.4 & 5ghz bands unlike 802.11ac) so its only a matter of time before we see the market flooded with 802.11ax clients.

News NETGEAR Stealthily Goes Public With Its Draft 11ax Routers

I would be utterly gobsmacked if Netgear didn't give you the option to buy the AX12 outright. However I suspect the AX12 isn't going to be cheap (at least $600) so they will also offer the monthly plan to those wishing to spread out the costs which also includes premium support, better warranty...

    Questions regarding Linksys EA8500

Yes, the EA8500 is a great router for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi - i had one a couple of years ago. It uses Qualcomm Atheros radios and for wifi performance its very similar to the Netgear R7800. On the downside its user interface is a bit basic but it offers all the common features one would...

    Wireless Router with L2TP Server?

That's incorrect. OpenVPN protocol has far better encryption that L2TP. I suspect you were referring to L2TP with IPSec which is better than L2TP but still nowhere near as secure as OpenVPN. TBH I would just use the OpenVPN server on the Asus router. Well logic would suggest router...

    Asus GT-5300 for Orbi?

OP, if you want a router like the ROG GT-5300 but without the bugs, go for the Linksys EA9500V2. The Linksys has the same internals as the ROG and its firmware is rock solid which is why Linksys don't need to release firmware updates every 2 minutes. On the downside its firmware isn't as...
