    Custom WAN DNS not working

What's entered in your LAN | DHCP | DNS entries? Probably best to include a couple of screenshots.

    AdGuard v. Cloudflare

You need to have some capabilities to setup and configure 2 things: 1. The adguardhome setup. Lots of how to guides and step by steps, google. 2. The client config. Once you have above adguard setup completed, you'll know the IP you need to put in your dhcp server. If what I just wrote...

    AdGuard Home

You need to provide more information for how your _exactly_ you're trying to configure your router and you RaspPi. (FYI, I use both a RaspPi and a VM running Adguard with a router that uses Merlin). Next steps / tests: Eliminate the Adguard install on the RaspPi by pointing one client there...

You don't need stolen keys: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/microsoft-support-cracks-windows-for-customer-after-activation-fails/ As for Linux vs. Windows, millions of kids and young adults are growing up with Chromebooks right now. I've worked for large enterprises that have...

Problem with reaching Adguard Home from outside home network

There are 2 options that are safer than what you're trying to do: 1. VPN into your network to use Adguard 2. Set up your phone to use the public Adguard servers Opening ports to create a public DNS server creates an attack point and will be used in DoS attacks against other systems. Read up on...

    What is your mouse?

Logitech M705 for desktop. I'm very happy with it.

Two ISP in same network, and choose whatever you like instantly (AX68u)

Before trying to do anything complex with multiple ISPs and routing failover, have you tried contacting the main ISP and letting them know that there are problems on Sundays and asked them to investigate & fix the issue? That seems to be the real root cause of the problem.

    Pi-Hole or DSN selection

My recommendation is to try it and see. Pihole and AdguardHome, running the same lists, should give you the same filtering.

    It's Linux's turn.

If installing untrusted software on linux, then bad things happen, there should be no surprise. Unless this was official repositories, in which case this is indeed noteworthy. The article made it sound like folks were 'offered' to install a .deb package from that site. So <shrug>.

How to only have certain needed/wanted ports open on Asus RtAx58u router for home network?

OP: IP communication isn't build that way, Generally the clients use randomized ports and connect to services on well known ports. Inbound nothing is open by default, i.e. all inbound packets that are 'unsolicited' are dropped. Outbound, everything is open by default, and for good reason...

DNS Director - Issues when using Private DNS on mobile devices

Well, then since you're only using the bypass for your phone, it seems that it'll do what you want.

DNS Director - Issues when using Private DNS on mobile devices

What's your use case? Why are you using it / trying to use it in the first case? Only that will tell you if it's useful.

DNS Director - Issues when using Private DNS on mobile devices

This seems to be a rather complex setup. But, to summarize: 1. You're telling the router "do not let any DoT queries through" using DNS director 2. You're telling the client "do not use the advertised DNS server, us a private DNS instead" in direct conflict with the DNS Director setting 3...

    AdGuardHome no longer filters ads

I've found that AdGuardHome runs better when not on the router and now run it on a RaspPi and a VM. Had pihole on those before, and can't tell the difference from a client perspective. They both seem to work well. Can't say the same when I ran it on the router, where it was glitchy now and...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 is now available

I had the same issue this morning. The VPN was actually hung up, and not resettable via vpnmon-r2 (it was trying). Had to reboot the router as it was laggy as well though clients were still able to connect outbound. No obvious errors in the syslog for what was causing it. Will be monitoring...

    Asus Router/Network Security Question...

If you have even the slightest bit of concern, run a VPN that tunnels through / past the landlords equipment. If you don't want to go that far, at least run DoT (i.e. DNS over TLS) to encrypt the DNS queries. In that case, if the landlord wants to, they could still see all the sites that are...

    Diversion vs Pi-hole

I've switched from pihole to AdGuardHome (AGH) running on my RaspPi. I tried AGH on my router but wasn't happy with the results, I don't think the router is a great place for it. As we work from home the majority of the time, I've got both a RaspPi running AGH and a VM on a desktop running AGH...

AVrecon malware infects 70,000 Linux routers to build botnet

^ Bolding mine. There is nothing in the article (or others I've seen) to indicate how to mitigate, what the exact issue / exploit is and what can be done. For me that means 'business as usual' i.e. no external access to the router config, up-to-date Merlin version, ad & telemetry blocking DNS...

Problems accessing home network from external networks.

    1. Setup your router to be the VPN Server you connect to 2. This has no impact to traffic outbound 3. You will need a client that matches the VPN Server configuration (i.e. if running OpenVPN, get an client the OS you are using to connect from and install on the remote client, if running...
