    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

"Let alone let us know which router you're talking about." What router do you think I'm referring to, how many pages has this thread been going on for?...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

@KrispiL Yes signal strength. Regarding @GarrHaal, I made the assumption that as their signal was traveling further, their signal must be stronger at source. @L&LD I appreciate your not having problems with your router but other people clearly are and from where I'm sitting all you've done...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

I did reset both, both with the latest firmware, same WiFi settings... No difference between them, not really sure what else you want me to say.

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Received replacement today, tested side by side and sadly NO improvement seen (no better, no worse)! So I'm at a loss why @GarrHaal saw the improvement they did...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Mine also says DE (DE/963) GERMANY Shouldn't it be set to the UK in my case?

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

UK here. On a sticker, mine says made in China. I didn't know there was any other reference to country?

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

How odd! Well going by your success I've just requested a replacement for mine, so fingers crossed I get the same result! Thanks for keeping us up to date!

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Was the one you had before the same hardware version, i.e. A1.1?

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Unless they've changed any of the hardware, i.e. hardware version, I can't see there be any difference sadly. That's why I never bothered to get mine replaced, I'm still deciding whether or not to get a refund on it and buying something else.

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

@GarrHaal Was it any better after sending it back for repair?

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

ASUS got back to me, saying: "Thank you for your email. This has not been duplicated, though we do not have the exact devices you mention to test But due to the poor connection quality, we suspect it would be an issue with the 2,4GHz band/antenna To arrange a return/RMA of the component...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Just going by how many have this problem, I'm not convinced it's a hardware problem.

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Does anyone know if the latest Asus firmware (3.0.0.4.384.9107) has fixed the 2.4ghz problem?

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

I can confirm very similar results as @Phil Outram. I really can't understand how some are being affected by this problem and others don't seem to be. I'm currently in talks with ASUS too, although I doubt anything will come of it.

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Plus to my understanding, 2.4ghz should travel further then 5ghz? Well on my AX88U, I have observed the opposite! No other router I've had has behaved in this way. Again, I'm sure many will disagree with my findings, but I'm just reporting MY findings.

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

I'm not sure what's the best thing to do here then. Do I just wait it out and hope firmware updates will improve the poor 2.4GHz performance or do I send it back and get something else, if so, which?

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

@L&LD All I can tell you is I've been testing this for weeks now, different channels, different settings, different positions, none of it made any difference. As opposed to my old RT-AC87U, which was great out of the box!
