2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

OK - have just done that - and it has selected Channel 11 - but I'll leave it, and see if it has a change of mind later.

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

So, I could do with your advice about that: The problem is, that I have configured some fixed IP addresses in the AC86U DHCP - so if I do a factory reset, I lose all that - unless, Admin --> Save setting actually backs up (and can restore) the DHCP config? Do you have any ideas how I could...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

My apologies - as I don't know what the defaults are (so can't revert to them) - I can only see what I posted (which is probably as a result of some tinkering long forgotten..) I am using CH 11 at 20Mhz, but I don't set auto-channel, as I have it on 11 (to minimise interference - but it would...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

If I said to you that I am running an RT-AC86U in a detached house with not very thick stone walls, in an area with approx another 10 2.4Ghz networks visible from my neighbours, but very few of them on Ch11 (which I have set). This is a mixed network of 2 - 3 laptops and two smart phones...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

I am confused (situation normal for me..) Changelog https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/blob/386.12_x/Changelog-386.txt is for 386.12_2 - and doesn't mention anything specifically about the AC86U - although it mentions the crashing across all models. This alpha that I am now running...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

@RMerlin this is astonishing.. I have been watching this conversation for some time, because on an RT-AC86U, from 386.10, I have been getting (initially) an issue where at a certain moment (after about two weeks of uptime) the router would refuse any further connections on 2.4GHz. The "fix" was...

    Starting to despair

I have said this in previous posts - so my apologies if you have already checked this. I have an AC86U running Merlin (the actual build number is unimportant - appears to happen on all Merlin builds, but that is not to say that it doesn't also happen on vanilla Asus - not running vanilla Asus...

Temporary problem on 2.4 GHz band

I don't know if this is of any help: I have an AC86U running now 386.10 (but for me, the issue showed up on all Merlin versions) - completely vanilla - no openVPN and DNS set to ISP etc. From time to time - maybe every 2-3 weeks (I can't identify a pattern) the 2.4Ghz devices kind of get a...

RT-AC86U how do you manually assign IP addresses in 386.10?

@ColinTaylor you are my hero! Who would have thought that an update would get so sweaty... Re-booting did nothing, so the next step was a default factory restore from the GUI as you suggested. Problem was, there appeared to be a disconnect between what the browser said was happening and what...

RT-AC86U how do you manually assign IP addresses in 386.10?

Thanks mate - really appreciate this! My JFFS says "unmounted" - I guess that that is not good? You made a good point about the cleanup tool, but as I read it, this is not required for the 86U. So here's me hitting the add button and then editing the IP address: So far, so good - but as...

RT-AC86U how do you manually assign IP addresses in 386.10?

I am sure that I am being a complete Muppet, in my panic - but I have come unstuck after an upgrade to 386.10. All my manual IP (DHCP) assignments are disappeared - and I need some manual assignements for IOT clients (which have no UID to be able to configure local fixed addresses). Even my...

384.18 -> 386.5: What is the impact to INBOUND OpenVPN server running on RT-AC86U?

Thank you both @RMerlin and @L&LD ! So my next question, is an OpenVPN (the OpenVPN version within 386.5) question: Are there any differences in the OpenVPN in 386.5 compared to 384.18 that I need to take into consideration? (other than I will need to remake the key and send it to the remote...

384.18 -> 386.5: What is the impact to INBOUND OpenVPN server running on RT-AC86U?

Advance apologies if this is a really stupid question: I currently run 384.18 on an RT-AC86U with inbound OpenVPN. I only have one inbound user (from another UU country) with OpenVPN configured to NOT allow ingress into my network, simply to redirect into UK internet so that user can access...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 is now available

Apologies for a really dense question (try not to judge me): Currently running 384.18 - which is vanilla (no scripts or other stuff) EXCEPT OpenVPN Server with 2048 encryption and Internet only access for a clients (so that my daughter, in a different country, can watch UK catch-up TV). With...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.15 (and 384.13_4) are now available

I knows this sounds weird, but with 384.15 on 86U, the first time you hit the 5Ghz config page, you are right, you can only select "Auto" in the drop-down. HOWEVER if you click on the 5Ghz SSID right at the top of the window in the "Wireless Mode" line, it does something to the 5Ghz GUI and now...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.15 (and 384.13_4) are now available

384.14 dirty upgrade to 384.15 on RT-AC86U all fine. One bit of weirdness - although the time is set correctly via NTP, all INFO log entries think it is either Jan 31st or May 5th at 06:05 (Syslog entries have correct date and time when received by remote Syslog Server - actually Mikrotik's...

Router reboots when i turn off switch

I am interested in this - because this week, I have been plagued with a similar problem: RPI B+ running Domototicz, connected directly to one of the 1GB RJ45 ports on the 86U. Both 86U and RPI micro USB 5V power are driven off an APC UPS. The RPI has been crashing (don't know why - it just...

    AC86U 384.14_2 - Tasmota Sonoff wifi connection.

I have Tasmota on Sonoff S20's, S26, POW, Basic, T1 and even the new Mini and no issues on an AC86U for me. However, these are 2.4GHZ devices - so I have 24/40 mhz channel bandwidth set. Wouldn't surprise me if they would struggle if you had set 40mhz channel b/w ONLY.

RT-AC86U Ethernet Speed dropping with 384.14_2

I had the same problem as you - going Gigabit 10m (60m is really pushing it - LOL) between an AC86U and a TPLink Gigabit switch. In the end, one of these was the solution: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018KH7O4E/?tag=smallncom-21
