Poll: Which Asus router is the new community darling?

I don't think we have an official vote for a router that is considered the community darling, but from reading this forum for the last three years, it seems like the AC86U came pretty close. Which is it now though? Is it still AC86U or is it a newer one? (There's plenty more models, but the poll...

Why is my wireless LAN speed slower than my wireless internet speed on AX86U?

Correct, and I apologise for the change. In my previous apartment both Apple TV and Mac mini server was connected via ethernet, and I never saw a problem with streaming large video files (Remuxes mostly( to Infuse video player on Apple TV. Then I moved to my current apartment a few weeks back...

Why is my wireless LAN speed slower than my wireless internet speed on AX86U?

Thanks so much!! I didn't know what that meant or that it was bad. I googled it and like you say, Retr is retransmitted packets due to faults in the transmission, either from congestion or corruption due to faulty hardware. Crap... The Mac mini M1 is just one years old, and has been in the same...

Why is my wireless LAN speed slower than my wireless internet speed on AX86U?

No I don't have another computer to test with, sadly. At least not for a few days at least, but I have tried the following: 1) A different router - the ISP WiFi-router. Same weak performance as AX86U on WLAN. 2) Reformating my Mac mini (server) with a clean macOS Ventura install. Did nothing...

Why is my wireless LAN speed slower than my wireless internet speed on AX86U?

I test the wifi speed from the wifi laptop two ways. 1) Through the Infuse video app I use to stream. It has a "network speed test" feature. 2) I also tried the app called LAN_SpeedTest. The "media server" is just a mac mini with stock macOS with "File Sharing" enabled in system settings to...

Why is my wireless LAN speed slower than my wireless internet speed on AX86U?

I'm testing for wired and wireless with the same laptop - a macbook pro m1.

Why is my wireless LAN speed slower than my wireless internet speed on AX86U?

TL;DR: My WiFi internet speed is way faster than my WiFi LAN speeds. Why? Answer: It's because using samba to transfer a file between two computers, the AX86U's single 5GHz radio both receives and sends data at the same time - so bidirectional traffic. This saturates the radio, effectively...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 is now available

Happy update-day you guys! ❤️ And thank you @RMerlin ! Curious as to what is included in GPL 388_23588, I googled 3.0.0.4.388.23588 and found nothing. Not even Asus lists it.

Feature request asuswrt-merlin: Option to quickly disable radios from the front / status page

But he could add those switches to enable/disable radios to the status page, no?

Feature request asuswrt-merlin: Option to quickly disable radios from the front / status page

Bummer. Is there any way Rmerlin can enable these things on all models, you think once his firmware makes the 3.0.0.6 jump?

Hmmm didnt know about that festure. hopefully it comes in next merlin update.

Feature request asuswrt-merlin: Option to quickly disable radios from the front / status page

Three reasons: 1) I don't always want the 2.4Ghz devices to always be connected to the web (robot vacuum, smart stove, TV, playstation, smart lock etc) 2) My everyday devices use 5Ghz, so by disabling 2.4Ghz I'm being "kind" to my neighbors who might be using 2.4Ghz by not interfering with...

Feature request asuswrt-merlin: Option to quickly disable radios from the front / status page

This is for @RMerlin 😊 First of all thank you for maintaining this project. It makes my wireless homenetworking easier and even fun! I have a couple of devices that don't support 5Ghz, and can only use 2.4Ghz. For the occational time (updating software) these devices need to connect to the web...

Solved [ASK] DDNS for ISP that using private IP Address

Old thread I know but I just wanted to add that I couldn't find the “Method to retrieve WAN IP” under DDNS (maybe Merlin changed something in his newer firmwares?), but what solved it for me was to put my ISP modem into Bridge mode as suggested by @ColinTaylor. Now OpenVPN works again on my...

How exactly do IoT smart devices pose a threat to home networks?

I'm just curious, how exactly does a smart lock, or a light bulb or a smart kitchen appliance pose a threat? If you have your router properly set-up, disabled UPnP, enabled the firewall and no port forwarding, then there's no way some remote hacker can enter my home network through a security...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Bug report: When I reboot the AX86U with 388.2, i cannot access my mac mini (which is behind a mullvad wireguard vpn client set up on the router and controlled through VPN Director) outdoors through my phone using wireguard to connect to the router, unless I go to VPN Director immedistely after...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 Beta is now available for Wifi 6 models

This might make a lot of people angry with me, but it must be said: The whole merlin project has grown into a behemoth, and I worry about you, Eric. Why don't you just call it quits on the 386-branch and focus your energy on the main-branch. Like you said, you're a one man show. I can't imagine...

News Unreleased Pro models and just announced ExpertWiFi models native VLAN support

Mikrotik? I have not heard of them, but they seem to be high quality and "heavy duty" in a way. Is there a particular model similar to or better than the AX86U Pro?

News Unreleased Pro models and just announced ExpertWiFi models native VLAN support

That's weak... I don't see how the AX86U (nonpro) can't run VLANs. Then again i'm not an engineer, so there might actually be valid reasons why, but my hobbyist brain can't understand why it's limited to the pro.
