SPONSORED: Don't Get Caught In The Wireless Mesh

With all these wireless mesh products whats going to happen when you and your neighbors all around you have one? Is it assumed because the range on AC radios doesnt penetrate as well that its going to not be an issue using so much radio in one house?

    Wi-Fi setup for small motel

I've deployed powerline + access points with good success a lot of the time. I've used Asus routers with merlin firmware as access points with good success. I've used Ubiquiti access points with good success as well. My vote would be for a managed distributed system like the Ubiquiti to be able...

    Why shouldn't I get a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X?

I got an ERP for a gateway from a local store for $155. It is a serious beast of a router for what I use it for with a 1000/1000 gpon connection. The hardware offload works unlike any consumer router I've tried and the management interface is robust. In my experience it needs active cooling...

If you don't have speeds in access of 150Mbps whats the point of a AC router ?

Sorry it wasn't clear, that's what I was saying that more bandwidth is better. I used n300 because where I live with comcast and centurylink dominating they send out a lot of single band n300 combo gateway devices. Aside from the nightmare that causes in the apartment buildings in the city...

If you don't have speeds in access of 150Mbps whats the point of a AC router ?

Sorry, that was phrased terribly. Take a n300 router. I give 2/3 available of theoretical bandwidth off the top so only 200mbps available before we even connect a device. 10 identical (in hardware and usage) devices all close to the router (so no attenuation from being further away) 20mbps...

If you don't have speeds in access of 150Mbps whats the point of a AC router ?

Is my logic flawed in thinking that (in a sense) wireless bandwidth is shared that having more bandwidth means the realized connection ends up with higher available bandwidth? Talking about a household with a gaggle of wireless clients that are modern devices and nearly continuously...

Review request/anyone have experience with this router? RT-AC1200

    here's along the lines of what I was thinking: r7500 = $198 AV1200 tp-link $59 RTAC1200 - $54 =$315 before tax for 2 AP household (if the powerline worked well enough) or a more budget and realistic setup of: archer c8 = $129 AV1200 $59 RTAC1200 = $54 around $240 for a 2 AP setup

Review request/anyone have experience with this router? RT-AC1200

http://www.microcenter.com/product/454481/RT-AC1200_Dual_Band_80211ac_Wireless_Router I'm interested in this mostly as a distant AP for people looking to add a second AP either via ethernet cable or PLC. The lack of gig ports seem to make it not worthwhile for a main router in a lot of...

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

That is one issue I also experienced and isolated to that specific access point. I never solved it but didn't really try too much either.

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

I returned my x8. Netgear support communicated well with me but ultimately could not solve the issues I had using the unit in even AP mode.

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

In my case the .28 firmware was faster with the 8500 connected as a switch. It was almost acceptably fast. I didnt get the Nighthawk to be just an access point though. Hopefully a firmware fix or something will fix my problem.

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

I retested the 8500 today. Here's what I got both times in AP mode: First test using the .28 firmware in AP mode 450/550 30ms ping Second test using the .26 beta firmware in AP mode (per netgear support) 470/540 30ms Third test using the .26 beta firmware in AP mode (but the cable coming into...

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

Thank you for the reply! Is the PPPoE over CTF supported in all firmwares? On the latest firmware I think it's _52 I'm unable to get over 450 either direction. My support case communication expert indicated a beta firmware update which may help the speed. Ill test further Wednesday either way

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

@RMerlin I have asked Netgear support RE: CTF on PPPoE + VLAN and they didn't have an answer. They've all been very pleasant to talk to but have not been able (as of L3 tech support) to give an answer one way or the other.
