Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

Thank you for the reply sir. I much more enjoyed the AsusWRT Merlin on the N66u to the Netgear interface. When I was doing the testing the router was fresh out of the box, reset with a 30 second push of the reset button then power unplugged for 2 minutes after updating to the latest firmware...

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

550/450 at that point. Dropped ping from 4 to 2ms. I meant to edit my post again last night to reflect that, my apologies. I cant do any further testing today because last night my ONT device lost its provisioning and now im waiting on a tech to come out... If nothing else changes they wont...

Nighthawk X8- R8500 Tri Band Quad Stream WiFi Router

This router is garbage. I spent a little time on the phone with Century Link to get my PPPoE credentials. As others have experienced across the internet, this router will not do more than 500mbps on the WAN connection. Using the latest firmware (the .56 one) Whether it's only acting as an...

Wink My Review of TP-Link TL-PA8010P AV2 Powerline adapter tested with 20 outlets

My house is only 2 levels and 2000 square feet. They're on the farthest parts of the house from eachother. One in the southwest corner of the basement and one in the far bedroom in the opposite corner of the house. I only got them to test them. I was impressed.

Wink My Review of TP-Link TL-PA8010P AV2 Powerline adapter tested with 20 outlets

I grabbed one of the kits from micro center with the TP-Link AV1200 gigabit passthrough. I got roughly 380mbps down and 340mbps up. Normally from a wired connection in that room it's 940mbps down and 930-940mbps up. I didn't do any sort of rigid methodological testing but I'm a believer now...

Using Bonded Moca 2.0 when there's a TiVo on the network

Even the latest Roamio last year had old MOCA in it. if MOCA is off do the Tivos affect anything? I'm interested to know more about this. I have a Roamio pro, basic and 2 minis.

    Routers for Gigabit internet

I posted a thread on this a couple months ago while waiting on my gig fiber install to the house. Now that I have it, for the moment I'm using CenturyLinks provided router. I'm still leaning towards a different solution that can do PPOE and VLAN tagging on the WAN side. My n66u shows a...

getting gig symmetrical WAN connection and need to upgrade router.

Thank you all for the replies. Here's what I've tentatively decided to go with: Mikrotik RouterBoard CCR1036-12G-4S Extreme Performance Cloud Core Router with Twelve-10/100/1000 ethernet ports, 4 SFP ports and RouterOS Level 6 license...

getting gig symmetrical WAN connection and need to upgrade router.

Thank you for the reply. I realized that after I posted and was looking at the simultaneous throughput. It looks like 1500-1600 is the highest on any current consumer router. I've always wanted to do the pfsense thing but the mikrotik stuff caught my eye last night. I've got a week or three...

getting gig symmetrical WAN connection and need to upgrade router.

Right now my DHCP/NAT/gateway is an older Asus N66u. Judging by the router chart that might not be the best router going forward once my gig connection is set up. Looking at the throughput charts all the highest WAN to LAN and LAN to WAN routers are fairly expensive wireless routers. I have...

Article Discussion: How Many SSIDs Is Too Many?

Thank you for this article, it helped me condense 3 APs with 5 different SSIDs into 2 SSIDs (2.4 and 5ghz) and its worked flawlessly so far, save for the Apple Time Capsule not letting go of clients very easily when it's a weaker signal. Edit: Cat5e/6 backhaul, N66U Merlin as gateway, DHCP...

    [CLOSED] Asuswrt-Merlin 378.50 Beta 1 is out

it would be awesome if dual wan 3g/4g now supported USB tether from an iOS device on the n66u.:D

network map attached, is anything out of whack?

100Mb/10Mb I saw a post of yours last night while browsing the forums regarding the mikrotik and have been reading about them. Had never heard of that make before. I'd be willing to give it a try to get that up and running. I toyed with the idea of just getting a separate VPN device and...

network map attached, is anything out of whack?

The only issue I really get frustrated with is sometimes LAN transfer speeds between wired devices. I need to set up ramdisks on each device and try to find the bottleneck, but I suspect its on the computer side not the network side. Something that has not been a problem so far but I...

network map attached, is anything out of whack?

Things I've done to try to keep my equipment running smoothly: 1. The n66u and arris cable modem are cooled by a fan blowing across the top of north devices. Neither is ever even warm to the touch. 2. Every device has a dhcp reservation in the routers configuration page. 3. Every electronic...

network map attached, is anything out of whack?

I'm trying to decide if its time to upgrade my main router (n66u). I don't have any complaints right now, but im not a pro at networking. Here is a network map of my wired connections and a list of wireless devices and where they connect primarily: General layout: Downstairs: Arris...

Issues with running Cisco WRVS4400N as a switch.

after messing around with this more, I gave up on using that router as a switch. Even with DHCP turned off and similarly with DHCP relay on, every device I disconnected and reconnected to the network was assigned an IP address in the range I had set for that linksys router.

looking to replace my upstairs router.

I did my best idea of a torture test on my network setup today after finishing adding in more devices and an 8 port smart gigabit switch. I added 2 apple airport express routers set up as bridges only for airplay. Here was my torture test: Everything running at the same time... 3 shows...
