    [News] 219P / 219e / 439U RP / SS-439 / SS-839 on computex 2009

Nice, since 2.5" Model are uses much less power. But with current biggest 2.5" disk being only 500GB, i doubt this is ever going to popular. Unless we see 1TB 2.5" Notebook HDD for cheap......

NAS Software = WHS Vs Linux.

WHS gives much higher performance then Linux given the same spec of NAS. As proved in HP LX review. Are we going to see some substantial improvement on Linux platform to speed up data transfers? Any Linux expert shine some light here?

    Data Robotics new DroboPro

ZFS with ease of use is what exactly i have been hoping Apple would come up with. Honestly Drobo doesn't look that good.... It is ok for 2 Bay, but the Pro Version hardly looks Pro at all. And i could get a fast NAS from QNAP for similar price.....why Drobo Pro then?

    Data Robotics new DroboPro

If it was an NAS, it would be a good deal as well. But as far as i can tell , the Ethernet port is only used for iSCSI. The problem with iSCSI is that every single partition/ or virtual drive can only be accessed by one initiators at the same time. In theory everyone could have their own...

I wish they could make a 3 Bay or 4 Bay version. Although by the time they "decide" to make one, may be 3TB HDD will already be avalible.

New QNAP products at Cebit 2009

2 Bay looks good. But both Netgear and Dlink dont complete at all. Qnap have much better Software and performance. I hope we get a decent price similar to Dlink NAS :D Edit: I also notice there is a TS219 which is similar shape to current TS209. So what is the new 2 Bay aiming at?

I wonder how the RSS , BT capable Media player is going to change our way of living. With RSS and BT, it means our favorite video shows will be automatically downloaded to our NAS Media Player. Cars, it means TopGear, or a English Dub of Naruto every Saturday. Just wondering on the price.

    Mac Mini as NAS?

Well after some searching, i gave up in find a Quad Drive , Single Firewire 800 output, Non Raid Box. There are cheap; or relatively cheap box with Raid, some with dual Firewire output. Just to point out if snow leoaprd were to support ZFS, then we will not need a external Raid Box. But just a...

    Mac Mini as NAS?

If, Snow Leopard do support ZFS, then Mac Mini would be like perfect NAS. You then need a 4 bay HDD Box and Firewire 800 port. ( Hopefully some manufacture will come with some specially design box ) The Qnap 4Bay TS439 cost $799 with no Drive. Mac Mini cost $499 I am sure they could make an...

    TS-639 Pro Reviewed

Well the 509 uses a Celeron where the 639 uses Atom CPU. So it is slightly less powerful. ( I wonder why they dont use Dual Core Atom ) I am wondering if the Bandwidth aggregation is supported with 639, where Dennis previously try to stick 2 Gigabyte Ethernet and achieve some 80MB/s results...

    Thecus N7700 Unleashed

Exactly. I can understand that adding more port doesn't add more cost. ( I think it is relatively small ) but they could charge a lot more at the current scale. However i think they should go for the other way, where the more HDD slot inside NAS, the cheaper price / HDD slot it should be...
