    DDNS and dyndns

That seems odd to me. By the very nature of Dynamic DNS, updates would need to happen periodically in the event that your DHCP-assigned WAN IP changed. If updates didn't happen and the IP changed, DDNS would be worthless.

New Asus RT-N65U Dualband Wireless N750 Gigabit Router

Agreed. Still not sure why on the AC66U, slightly more time wasn't spent sourcing a USB3 controller. I am interested in seeing a review of the N65U though; I'm sure many would like to compare its performance to the original Black Diamond.

Only one DNS server in DHCP?

Minor annoyance, but definitely there...I noticed it, but haven't commented until now. Is there any reason the RT-AC66 (and I'm guessing the N66) only have an option for one DNS server in DNS? Almost every router I know of has a fallback DNS address. This is kind of a big deal for me, since...

ASUS RT-AC66 does not prompt for credentials when managing

One other note: I can stay logged into the router on my system without it ever timing out and asking for my credentials again. This also concerns me. I am running ASUS firmware 3.0.0.4.266. The only custom change I have made is to use telnet to modify the router settings to support UPnP for...

ASUS RT-AC66 does not prompt for credentials when managing

I'm having an oddity with my ASUS RT-AC66R. When I first configured it, it did not want to save the admin password properly, and told me I had the wrong password several times until I finally confirmed it correct. Now, I'm having an issue where going to the IP of the router for management...

Best "Switch" to split AC66U signal?

I use Netgear Prosafe switches. Nice, well-built metal boxes that do the job without being super-expensive. I have one eight-port gig switch (GS108) and one four-port gig-switch (GS104) hanging off my AC66U, and they work fine. Bought both off Ebay, one used, one factory-refurbished, and...

RT-AC66U negative feedback and security questions

The ASUS router will put yours to shame. Far more features, wireless and wired performance head and shoulders above it. At this time, the complaints, as I have seen them are three-fold: People who got a router with borked firmware right from the start. For some reason, some routers...

RT-AC66U - port forwarding and DynDNS issues

RMerlin - I just had a thought; If I downgraded to an RT-N66U and used DD-WRT or Tomato, would I be able to get around this? I don't have a huge need for the wireless AC and won't for the foreseeable future. EDIT: Update: As I found this complaint to be one had by others, as well as the...

RT-AC66U - port forwarding and DynDNS issues

While I love this router for everything else, I think of that as a serious flaw. Port 443 is used for a lot of other things, and the inability to configure it on a top-end enthusiast-level router is highly disappointing. There are any number of people who might wish to use HTTPS for something...

RT-AC66U - port forwarding and DynDNS issues

Do you know if there's a way to either set AiCloud to another port, or disable it? I suppose my third option is to see if I can run Access Anywhere on another port, but I'd prefer to stick with the standard HTTPS. I might use AiCloud at some point, but for now, I'm not, Server 2012 Essentials...

    New Asus fw .266

I flashed my brand-new RT-AC66R with it tonight. Seems to work so far; I have a few quirks but as the router is new, I can't blame the firmware for it. I'll be testing some HD media streaming tomorrow over gigabit from my server to my content streamer; meanwhile, wireless works great. I...

RT-AC66U - port forwarding and DynDNS issues

Well, on the bright side, Dynamic DNS decided to start working for me after I re-entered the info in a few more times. One issue down. However, port forwarding of 443 is still reported as an issue. I'm not sure why. I have it set manually via a standard rule, directing TCP 443 traffic to...

RT-AC66U - port forwarding and DynDNS issues

Hi all, I just got an RT-AC66R to replace my aging Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH. I've got most of my configuration set, but I'm experiencing two issues. First off, I have a domain set up through DynDNS, which worked perfectly fine on the Buffalo router. When I have it set up on the ASUS...

Want a reliable mid-upper end wireless router

Do you mean, as opposed to the cable modem? I haven't had a problem there. It's a 2-year old Motorola SB6120 that has also been quite good; I bought it to get out of the monthly charges which were being increased. I was able to reboot the router (pull power) and have everything come back up...

Want a reliable mid-upper end wireless router

I'm currently using a venerable but decent Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH in my home, which has served me well both in range and wireless throughput. I'm also using a Buffalo WLI-TX4-AG300N 802.11n dual-band wireless bridge; it has four 10/100 ports built in and makes it easy to plug in my SO's...
