Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I think you're beta tester number 3, maybe 4, to say they cannot get the system working with an RT AC88U router and beta firmware. I'm back to being convinced there is a device specific bug to that model. The "disable Ethernet backhaul" lured me into a false sense of hope, as that did get me...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Correct, to summarize. My master router is GT-AC5300, with 2 AC88U's as nodes. Both nodes are connected to the main router via Ethernet cables with an un-managed switch between the nodes and the master router. System was working fine with production grade firmware. I initially tried to...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

In my case the router usually freezes and/or reboots near the end of the Add AI node wizard. When the router recovers (either from the reboot, or from me rebooting it) the Aimesh nodes I just added no longer appear in the list. Would there still be a benefit to the Ai-Mesh->System Settings ->...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Thanks, and lucky you. After swearing I was done with this Beta test forever more, I decided to try ONE more time armed with this new piece of information. Things are better, one of the 2 AInodes has now connected, and remains connected. That is an huge improvement, and enough to send me down...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

OK, so we've got about 2 or 3 simultaneous conversations pointing towards the same issue. If there are intermediate switches between the master router and the AImesh nodes, your best option is to disable the dedicated Ethernet Backhaul mode in the "new settings panel", and instead have...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Thanks for that tip. I was using the dedicated ethernet backhaul mode. When they release RC8 ;) (I've wasted enough time with RC6 and 7) I'll try that. Also these switches are unmanaged 8 port $80 Office Depot Specials.

    SMB Issue with Mac

Mac OS dropped native support for Samba 1.0 (and I think 2.0 too) a few versions back. They claimed the reason why was due to insecure password transmission. Why not try with Samba 2.x or 3.x? Alternatively, there is a program for MacOS called SMBUp that swaps the Apple written MacOS Samba...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I also have an AC88U in my AImesh system, with a similar setup to yours, ethernet backhaul but with a wired switch between the main router and the node. What is different in my case is the 88U is the node, not the main router. I've yet to get it working with the beta firmware. I think there's a...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I have the "ROGized" GT-AC5300, and the ROGized gui remained after installing beta firmware. With that said, I actually don't like the ROG gui and frankly wouldn't care if it magically reverted back to the stock WRT guid ;)

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I'm doing that now. So far same problems as with RC6. "master router" GT-Ac5300, 2-88U's as satellite routers, Upgrade to RC7, factory reset, manual configuration transfer, no config file import. Same as last time. I can successfully navigate the wizard for adding the first Aimesh node, and the...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Thank you for this, as the custom client list does not carry across when using the GUI export and import config tool, so even if I give up on beta testing, this is a good thing I can use.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

That's been my experience most of the time. But I've got a Windows 10 laptop, that every once in a while, gets a different IP, and it's important that one keeps its IP, so I had to manually enter that one in the routing table.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

FYI, Just because of this quote, I tried one more time. Upgrade all 3 routers to RC6, factory reset, no config import, start from scratch. No dice. Must be something about my setup that hasn't been tested by Asus. Thanks anyways, though. Now I am going back to production. :( However, I guess I...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I only did that as I have a number of devices that need to keep their static IP, otherwise a bunch of stuff breaks. Is there a way of just importing the static ip list from the "old configuration" to the "new configuration"?

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

With 56 pages of replies (and counting), I don't know if this will even rise above the noise. But I'll just add my experience with RC6. I'm done. Going back to production code. Haven't had a working AiMesh for more than a few minutes before something happens, a freeze, whatever. Here's the...

    AiMesh vs Access Point ?

Does anybody have an estimate for when AiMesh 2.0 will be released? I ask as I would like to completely rebuild my home network, to address some issues I was not aware of when I did it the last time. As the ability to use the guest wifi with AiMesh is a feature I am anxiously awaiting, I am...

Asus RT-AC5300 Smart Connect on or off?

I would really like to be able to tweak the Smart Connect rules to have a working setup. I like the idea of having one SSID and letting the router move to the 5g band when signal supports it, but 2g band when farther away. But I only have enough knowledge about RF to be dangerous, and with the...

I have dead spots in a historic, large, odd shaped house

I had 2 phones in the room in question watching different youtube videos and not a single hiccup. So that's a positive sign. However, I'll have a teenager moving into that room in a couple of weeks, so that will be the REAL stress test ;) Thanks to everybody who chimed in with ideas.

I have dead spots in a historic, large, odd shaped house

Thank you all so much for your help. What I've decided is i'm going to take the el-cheapo repeater I'm already using and reconfigure it for AP mode and get as close as I can to the dead spot in the crawlspace. If that works, I'll replace the el-cheapo with an outdoor rated one for permanent use...

I have dead spots in a historic, large, odd shaped house

Thanks Tim. I truly appreciate it. It sounds like my best option is try to find a way to get an ethernet cable past at least a few of the obstacles, rather that pinning my hopes on a router with a longer range. And you've given me an idea. I am aware of a crawl space access and vent near the...
