    setting up OpenVPN client connection

after applying it for a third time (all three attemps being identical), it finally accepted the config and connected. obsure bug maybe? who knows, it's works now.

About that flat black Ethernet patch cable that ships with Asus Routers ...

the black cable that shipped with my AX88U wasn't flat, it was a normal ethernet cable.

    setting up OpenVPN client connection

It's inline. Section called <ca> and ending with </CA> And yes I know what user/pass to use. I did say it worked fine with stock firmware

    setting up OpenVPN client connection

seems strange as the ovpn file works fine on the stock firmware. it's only when moving to merlin that the problem occured. looking at the file in notepad++, the CA info is in the file.

    setting up OpenVPN client connection

Hmmm change VPN just because Merlin seems to have added extra complexity into the settings? Strange conclusion to make. Add I said, it worked fine on stock, so not sure what Merlin has done to break it

    setting up OpenVPN client connection

Surfshark provide instructions for the official firmware, but not Merlin. Merlin appears to have added numerous settings for the openvpn client config

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

Maybe it is defective, but hasn't shown any signs of it up into now, and it can still see other WiFi networks, just not mine

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

Which is all true, but a question posed earlier, who's to say any other device also won't work for unknown reasons. I've logged a support ticket with both edimax and asus

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

who said it was the driver causing the problem? i certainly didn't. i can only repeat what i have said before, the adaptor was working fine before the router was replaced. so when you troubleshoot you look to see what changed on the network, and the only change was the router. i have tried...

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

asus support might be more appropriate (if there is a such a thing), as it's the router causing the problem?

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

have already done the un-install dance, it made no difference i have no other routers now, just the asus. the previous router was the unifi dream machine, which i believe does support channel 13 on 2.4GHz, however at present my 2.4Ghz network is on channel 6

    setting up OpenVPN client connection

merlins seems to require more configuration than what surfshark want to tell you (see the link i posted at the start showing their asus instructions). i attempted to create the client connection. added my user/pass, uploaded the file, clicked apply and enable. it then immediately stopped and in...

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

yep, was one of ths first things that was checked.

    setting up OpenVPN client connection

dunno, but before i installed merlin you added surshark by entering user/pass and uploading the file. that's all that was required.

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

this isn't an AX adpator though, just a plain old b/g/n 150Mbps adaptor.

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

yes it's worrying, as you then have to think what other wifi devices it has a compatibilty issue with.
  17. Chenks

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

yeah but the point i was making was that the router came out the box, powered on, firmware updated, wifi enabled. at that point the edimax couldn't see it. it was as basic as a config that there could have been

    setting up OpenVPN client connection

i've just installed merlin on AX88U, and the VPN client settings have changed so much that i'm now not sure how to set up an OpenVPN client connection to surfshark. on stock firmware it was, add profile > name, username, password, upload file (as per...

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

nope, this is my spare USB network adaptor i use for testing any devices i get in that have no working or available LAN connections. it has been used in another laptop because it had better range than the built-in wifi (crappy HP laptop). but now that laptop is hobbled because, for whatever...

edimax wifi adaptor can't see networks

and again, nothing has changed other than the asus router, so if USB3 was a problem now surely it would have been a problem before too.
