Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

3 x RT-AC66U B1 are reporting here. Dirty flash on all of them, the entire AiMesh system works flawlessly so far. Thank you, @RMerlin ! Regarding: I still prefer Merlin on the nodes because of AMTM access and e.g. LED control scheduling.

    AIMESH and Astrill applets?

Check this out: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/wiki/AiMesh By the way, you should be able to flash Merlin 384.18 on your ax56u: https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/about Is Astrill a VPN provider? If it runs on your main router, your entire network will be "VPNed".

OpenVPN version in Merlin compared to stock?

Maybe this reference will help you - in summer RMerlin announced he’ll the most probably stop supporting ac87u and ac3200 (version 384.13_10): https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/changelog-382 The reason is limited support from Asus. At the same time, Merlin still fully supports ac66u_b1 that was...

    [Thread-1] [ 386.1_Alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

There are actually 2 little reasons why I personally prefer to run Merlin on the nodes, too: 1) You can access their AMTMs and e.g. define led control schedule; 2) I have a shared drive attached via USB to one of the nodes. On my home network it runs reliably only with Samba v2 enabled, which is...

amtm LED control script in Aimesh node

I currently run my APs as AiMesh nodes and I confirm the LED control script works perfectly on them. I had to access their AMTM's individually, the scripts aren't synced with the main AiMesh router.

Downgrade from 384.19 to 3.0.0.4_386_40451 stock asus firmware for RT-AC86U

From the release notes for 384.19: IMPORTANT: due to a flash partition layout change from Asus on the RT-AC86U, the JFFS partition content for that model may be missing or corrupted following the upgrade to 384.19. Make sure you make a backup of your JFFS partition before upgrading. If you run...

Can I access the admin console of an AiMesh Node? (override redirect)

You can also access some of the node settings through the Asus Router mobile app. Here are the steps to get there: 1) Set your would-be node as an Access Point 2) On your main router specify a static IP address for that AP 3) Find the AP in the Asus Router app and add it there 4) Reset the AP...

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

You don’t miss it, it’s not there. Sorry if I confused you - for me the point about the fork was separate to the repeater question.

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

Nice thing about Merlin FW is that you can easily go back to stock.

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

The GNUton's Merlin fork will definitely get the security updates. The new version is now in the making, at the Alpha stage: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/dsl-ac68u-asuswrt-merlin-builds-for-dsl-routers-alpha-beta-testing-only.67696/ The last stable version is mentioned in my signature. You...

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

You don’t need the Operation Mode tab to set up your DSL-AC68U as an Access Point. All you need is to turn off the DHCP server and connect it LAN-to-LAN to your main router. This works with every router and every firmware. If you can’t have proper ethernet connection between routers, you can...

Any solution to AiMesh - USB/NAS connection to node?

OK, I used to have a similar problem, too. Here are some solutions that you can try - from the easiest to the most complicated one: 1) Instead of clicking on the NAS network location, enter the IP address of the node into the Windows Explorer address bar - it should be something like...

Any solution to AiMesh - USB/NAS connection to node?

Do you mean that: - the computer can "see" the NAS as the local network location - you can click on it and login window appears, - you enter your username and password, - but you won't get access? Is this correct?

Does Smart Connect functionality extend to AIMesh nodes that don't support it?

In case of AiMesh 1.0 the app offers some more control options for the nodes compared to the Web UI. Another interesting one is that in the app you can set up a shared FTP or Samba drive attached through USB to a node.

RT-AC66U B1 vs DSL-AC68U as an AIMesh node?

You can use the DSL-AC68U only as a wireless node: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1039736 ...while the AC66U_B1 can operate in both connection modes. For me this would be a decisive factor (I strongly prefer ethernet backhaul). By the way, I recently switched my setup (see below) from...

Does Smart Connect functionality extend to AIMesh nodes that don't support it?

You can certainly see it in the Asus Router app for iOS or Android. Once I had an issue with my wired connection to one of the nodes and the app was showing it connected over WiFi to the other node.

[DSL-AC68U] GNUton / Merlin builds for DSL routers - v386 ALPHA testing only

Hi @GNUton , another big fan here. Many great thanks for your work so far and fingers crossed for the successful development of the 386.xx code. Sadly, I can't offer my help testing alpha versions, since 2 home offices and 2 home schools depend at the moment on my DSL-AC68U running your latest...

AIMesh with ethernet backhaul VS AP Mode with ethernet

I played with both options and for the time being, the AP's work better for me: 1) With AiMesh I can't see any major improvement of the roaming behavior of my clients (i.e. our family iPhones roam very smoothly, whereas Windows laptops suck in both setups); 2) I don't like limited control of the...
