    Need for whole home Ethernet?

That's only true if you: A. Already are running cable to that drop. B. You ran the cable inside of conduit without too many bends.

Why my ISP given ADSL- WAN router port is a 10/100 port and not a gigabyte

The only possible benefit you will see going from 10/100 to gigabit on your modem is if there is an issue with flow control on your network. Beyond that . . . no, you will see no benefit upgrading the modem.

    Vlan Switch Advice

Yes, that switch will satisfy your requirements. It also runs practically the same OS as your old switch, so config ought to be fairly straight forward. If you want to dry run the interface: http://ui.linksys.com/LGS326P/V1.0.1.4/26_Port_Gigabit_PoE_Smart_Switch.html

One thing I forgot to ask you RK13. If you run a speed test with 0 users (internet down for maintenance) connected, what are the results? Please give results from both speedtest.net and speedof.me Have the test done on a wired computer. Thanks! Edit: What is the switch you are using? Some...

Realistically no AP can handle more than 20 active clients per Radio. Reasonably well. The UAP spec of 100 is for devices connected but not transmitting as well as using only other Ubiquiti client stations. Let's clean up the WiFi to start. First things first, do you have a dual band...

Access control on Device basis (MAC)

One way you can implement this is by an ACL on a switch. Bind the ACL to the port the device is connected to. Add one ACE per device to the ACL that you wish to allow access. Add one ACE at the end of the list to deny all other traffic that does not match the source.

    Vlan Switch Advice

Linksys is NOT owned by Cisco. They were sold off to Belkin. Still nice products though.

    Product-review: Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite

Oh stig . . . Thou art such a tease! I'm still waiting for a version of the ES24-lite with SFP+ ports like the ES48-lite. That, and the ER8-carrier. And an 10gbe aggregation switch with combo rj45/SFP+ ports. Heck why not the world first 10gbe RJ45 SFP+ module while you are at it?

    Product-review: Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite

Right, now what realistic scenario would require something like that? You say private render farms . . . that's medium to enterprise level businesses. Real time simulations? How would that help compared to just running the simulation on the server vs wasting bandwidth sending the raw gpu data...

    Product-review: Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite

I use the Nvidia Shield tablet to stream games from my PC to my TV. With a USB micro Y cable, USB ethernet adapter, and mini HDMI to HDMI cable I connect it to a TV while charging. I can stream games from my PC just fine at 1080p/60FPS. This is with a 10/100 link, not even gigabit.

    Product-review: Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite

Yes, completely uncompressed 1080p 60fps video is about 3gb/s. Where do you need that in a router though? I can't imagine any use case scenario for that in any home or small business.

Best Router for OpenVPN under $130?

In this use case you want to do IPsec site to site VPN.

I need an ethernet cable for gaming.

Do not get a STP cable unless you know how to properly ground it. It will just cause more issues than it will solve. Flat cables (Rated at spec) operate exactly the same as round cables. They are just designed for being easier to run under carpets for places like offices and conference rooms...

Quick question about mix of Cat6 and Cat5

There is no difference in using a mix of CAT5e and CAT6 patch cables in a 1GBase-T network vs using only CAT5e going from device to device. CAT6 has some inherent benefits over CAT5e but unless you have a reason for it (better Alien Crosstalk, NEXT, FEXT reduction), its basically no difference...

Professional Advice on Best Performance Network Switch/Power Line Adapter for purchase

I would not recommend mikrotik switches for anyone but a serious networking professional, or someone using it as a dumb layer 2 switch. The routers while randomly buggy between releases at least have a decent amount of guides and follow standards, so it's not so bad for an advanced user to follow.

Best Router for OpenVPN under $130?

The 56u runs the exact same model CPU as the 68u. Before I updated my network, I was running it at 1200mhz, WiFi disabled, only 1 LAN port connected, an 80*38mm fan and saturated a 40/10 connection with it. If you want to go faster, your best bet is a router built for something like pfsense.

    2 layer or 3 layer???

Serversupply.com sells used equipment such as routers and switches.

    2 layer or 3 layer???

The ERlite and ERpoe both share the exact same CPU and RAM. The only difference is a 3 port switch chip on the last ports and POE on all ports. Also, what firmware issues does it currently have right now? Are you talking about an Alpha or Beta release?
