Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Thanks..everyone. Based on what Tech9 has stated, I won't be shifting to Merlin since the copious other features aren't needed. I so appreciate everyone's advice. The RT-AC68P is running smooth, giving better speed with the latest ASWRT firmware

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

I like your style..honest to a fault. But yeah, it might be overkill for someone like myself. Spending tons of time installing and configuring could be a waste of time. Regardless I truly appreciate the help..The router is delivering better speed than my previous one which is why I bought it!

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Thanks..unfortunately when I clicking the yellow upload text, nothing happens. As stated previously, I'm unable to find a program to open the .trx file after downloading the appropriate Merlin zip file. So it appears Merlin can't be installed on Macs

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Thanks..so once I upload I have to begin from scratch? New log in, password, SSID names, etc?

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Any ideas what App Store application will open the .trx file? I've tried the "Open" app to no avail so it looks like I'm unable to install Merlin :(

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Thanks..My desktop is macOS and after downloading the zip, I'm unable to open the file since Mac doesn't have the utility..what now?

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

I really appreciate your guidance. That said, were I to install Merlin, do I have to start from scratch or will the settings in stock remain? In a Reddit post about the comparison, this statement was made: Merlin codes for stability, speed, and features, in that order. If I install Merlin will I...

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Unlike many here, I have few wireless devices. Having had zero problems with ASWRT in the past and noting what others have commented about the Merlin benefits, I'm wondering why I'd need to change. Also, on the earlier post with recommended settings, there's nothing about disabling the 802.11ac...

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Thanks for the info. While it appears there's lots of Merlin fans here and I appreciate what L&LD states the Wireless>Performance>802.11ac Beamforming setting is set to the default (Enable). Since Universal Beamforming is disabled, should I do the same for this?

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

So if I understand correctly, the memory manager is only with Merlin. Were I to have known that, I wouldn't have bothered with the question. I appreciate the response

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Thanks..I'll stick with stock since the advanced features of Merlin aren't needed

Best setup for the Asus RT-AC68U (ACTUALIZED to 2019)

Having followed these steps with my RT-AC68P, I cannot locate Memory Management anywhere; can someone please direct me? I'm also curious if the Merlin firmware has features that would improve speed or range. From what I understand its more focused on other features not available in stock. Thanks

    Link Aggregation on RT-AC86U

    OK thanks..sorry for my confusion.

    Link Aggregation on RT-AC86U

Thanks..I didn't see anything about link aggregation on the spec page. So you're saying he's damaged the CPU by using LACP? Sorry but I'm not nearly as technically savvy as you folks :)

    Link Aggregation on RT-AC86U

Thanks..so you're saying this model is incapable of link aggregation?

    Link Aggregation on RT-AC86U

I recently came across someone selling an RT-AC86U which was set up using link aggregation with the objective of pushing the speed envelope beyond 1 gbps. With a large number of demanding devices in the network, he noticed significant speed drops on 5 gHz which was remedied with a restart. His...

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

Thanks..very helpful..Found someone else selling one but it IS the HW A1 version so I'm going to pass on it.

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

Someone locally is selling an RT-AC68U stating it was purchased from Amazon a few years ago. He says there's no HW on the rear label, so how do I know which version it is?

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

WAN speeds are 241 down, 12+ up. Yes to the other questions. I'm not dissatisfied with WiFi speeds, but I just thought upgrading to a more powerful router might be an improvement. I guess I'll continue to hunt for the AX model and with luck find one in the budget!

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

No. The tier is 200 down, 10 up. My modem delivers about 20% faster but WiFi upstream remains at 8-9. Running latest build of firmware too. So from what you're saying is I should stay put with the 56R, correct?
