DOSed by ssh connection attempts. what to do

aha, is that how the brute force protection works? one a second. Ok looks like it is working then--I did sort of notice that there weren't _that_ many dropped connections. When my router hung the first time, I did suspect that maybe the log had grown massive or had some other negative effect...

DOSed by ssh connection attempts. what to do

I regularly see ssh connection attempts to my home server in my server logs and have done for years. I used to use denyhosts which worked well. It's never been an issue before on 24mbit adsl with a pfsense router. Since I got fibre, and an Asus RT-AC68U and put Merlin fw on it, there have...

    Run TOR in Relay mode?

I opened port 9001 (cant be port 443 because if you use hibernation then it might not re-open such a low port) in the routers NAT port forwarding and set it to 127.0.0.1 and since then I dont get any dropped packets in system log, but i dont get a confirmation message either: "Self-testing...

    Run TOR in Relay mode?

I followed cockytrumpet's guide above so that I have a TOR Relay running in the router, but system log shows that all packets to port 443 are getting dropped and I dont get a confirmation message in tor log that it is reachable from outside. Now maybe I can open a port forward rule in the...

    Dnscrypt from opendns

okee dokee, figured it out now. btw, im using an ASUS RT-AC68U with Merlin 378.56_02 and Entware installed on USB3 16GB ext4 pendrive. I followed the Wiki install guide only and did not deviate from it one bit. I chose an OpenNIC server when prompted (an SE server). # after install, I was...

    Dnscrypt from opendns

ho-hum. It didn't work with the simple instructions. I had no dns on reboot because "dnscrypt-proxy[nnn]: unable to retreive server certificates" or some such, so I reverted, and i'll have to do some more digging when I get time. Maybe it was due to the dns provider I choose in the list...

    Dnscrypt from opendns

so just to be clear, is the wiki article on GitHub totally misleading ( https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Secure-DNS-queries-using-DNSCrypt ). Or do many people actually get this to work using those very simple instructions? I have an N68U with a usb stick, Entware and Merlin...

Feature Request: Mass upload of DHCP hostnames from the GUI

I tried the following to successfully add a broadcast address to the GUI, but it does not seem to work even if it got added without error: nvram set dhcp_staticlist="<ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff>192.168.1.253>wol-host" nvram commit After typing in these commands the mapping shows up in the GUI.

Feature Request: Mass upload of DHCP hostnames from the GUI

Hi. Sorry to re-activate an old thread, but can this method of using dnsmasq be used to assign an IP to a broadcast MAC? In DD-WRT / pfsense, I assigned 192.168.1.253 to ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff so wake on wan would work from a smartphone. Asus firmware cannot handle the mac address and says it's...

QoS: any point on 500Mbit synchronous Internet connection?

title says it all. Do people just disable QoS altogether on links > 100Mbit? Or is there still a point? I heard that there could be performance penalties when enabled Qos in this situation.
