Set up my new AX86U today

I just got one and set it up about a week ago, pretty much defaults. With Merlin. It's been stable since. Almost a week now. I turned off WPS and cloud access but pretty much left the Wifi settings to default.

Router Reliability, Bloat and Handling of Many Devices

It's interesting that the AC3100--which was a very "beefy" router at the time, came with a wall wart and thin power cord. The AX86U came with a power supply that looks like it could run a PC or laptop, with the two piece cord/power supply and much heavier cord. Mabye Asus is upping their game...

    Nest/Google products on network

i wouldn't use a work account but I do use my personal account. Part of the appeal of these is personalization. My wife also uses them and she has a separate email account. She's able to get personalized results through voice recognition, casting, etc. It's not a big deal.

    News RT-AX68U

Wow, long thread. A couple of observations: Asus really does have bewildering and confusing lineup of routers. I don't suppose the other manufacturers are any better. But I counted at least 5 or 6 different AX routers discussed here and I'm not sure the AX11Billion even came up. Or the "ROG"...

Aging Asus 3100 not cutting it anymore

I got the new router (AX86u) and have everything set back up. One thing that jumped out right away was the seemingly beefier power supply and cord, compared to the one that came with the AC3100. This one is more like a laptop power supply. Probably adds credence to some of what I read about...

Router Reliability, Bloat and Handling of Many Devices

I agree. I started with various Netgear routers, then an Apple router, then the AC66, AC3100, and have the AX86u coming today. Each seemed to get "worse" over time. Could be they were designed for a different era and here you are pushing 25 clients to them 5 years later. I would think it...

What's the verdict on the RT-AX88U vs RT-AX86U vs GT-AXE11000 if I'm buying today

I hope the X86U is at least as good as my AC3100 was...it's still important to me for range. But I think I saw you or someone else reference the AC3100 as being known for exeptional range, and I can back that up. But I do have a question about loading up the 5GHz band. In the past I've...

Aging Asus 3100 not cutting it anymore

Thanks for your advice. I decided it was time for a refresh, so I ordered the AX86U. Unfortunately I coudln't find it locally so I ordered from Amazon. My AC3100 is almost five years old, has been reset a few times and put back to ASUS firmware, and I'm still having random issues. Speed is...

Aging Asus 3100 not cutting it anymore

After going back to Asus Stock Firmware and doing a factory reset, AND changing the SSID names (thinking maybe this will force some amount of "fresh connections" on clients), I'm stable again. I had a HELLUVA time getting a damn Honeywell Wifi Stat to connect. I'm STILL not sure how I got it...

Aging Asus 3100 not cutting it anymore

Hello guys. Joined here and bought an AC66 and then an AC3100 and have been on the Merlin train since then. THe 3100 has served me well but I feel like it's getting long in the tooth--the wifi is getting flaky and less stable. I bought it almost 5 years ago. I'm on the latest Merlin version...

    Best replacement for Asus AC3100

Certainly looks familiar! :) This setup has (till now) provided a very stable, fast, and broad coverage solution for me. Even still, it's just the admin page. But it did fail more than once. Gonna ride the "boot every morning" hack for a bit and try out the hard reset. I don't really run a...

    Best replacement for Asus AC3100

Hey there. I'm definitely on the latest version. Just haven't kept my sig up. I'll do the hard reset. The new behavior just started right after I lost the fan, so I thought it might be connected. You could definitely see the cooler temps on the dash. Guess I didn't care enough to replace...

    Best replacement for Asus AC3100

Been using Asus/Merlin for some years now, first with the AC66U and now over 3 years the 3100. I'm happy with the 3100 range (I have a 3,000 sq/ft house on one level) and functionality but the stability seems to be suffering. I'm on the latest stable Merlin version. I've had it on a laptop...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.9 is now available

I was up on 384.8_2 for 35 days straight and don't know what happend 35 days ago. Upgrade to 384.9 is smooth so far. Love stability and the combination of this firmware with the AC3100. Thank you Merlin.

    RT-AC68U Problem with Traffic Monitor

Updating to Merlin 384.6 seems to have corrected it.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 is now available

Flashed on my 3100. I was worried at first--had really slow response from the admin/web UI, and my throughput (up and down) took a hit. Fortunately it settled out on both fronts. I didn't notice any issues with the CPU, as the gui reported it. Seems to be working well at the moment. Thanks...

Traffic Monitor bug with merlin firmware 380.58 ASUS RT-AC66U

Attaching my experience with these 4gb upload "spikes." This is reflected in my daily and monthly upload totals, and also in the attached 24 hour screen grab, but it doesn't show up in the per-IP monitoring. I'm on the latest version of merlin (384.5) and was told here...

    RT-AC68U Problem with Traffic Monitor

Well this makes a lot of sense. I've attached a screen shot of the 24 hour section, I assume these "spikes" are what's causing it. Correct? I guess the answer is to wait it out. I'm glad to hear it's just a bug and not actual data I'm uploading.

    RT-AC68U Problem with Traffic Monitor

This is maddening. I'm seeing something very similar. I noticed today on my traffic history where my last couple of monthly upload counts shot up to rival download numbers--it's never been that way months and months prior. Per-IP didn't help much since I never made them static, so I thought...

    Firmware 380.59 Client list problem

Also bumping an old thread. I've had an erratic client list for so long I thought it was just "normal behavior." Things would dynamically appear, disappear, the whole list would go blank and come back etc. But it was getting worse so I googled and found this thread. I did a factory reset and...
