ASUS firmware will change the verification method

I agree. 100%. As to the other gentleman referring to Asus "making me happy," I would think that as a customer, and user of their consumer oriented site, they would very much be receptive to "making me happy." I wasn't the only one confused--someone else brought it up in here. I was setting...

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

By that logic, they should add Linux to the list. In case they write firmware in some other OS. But then most people wouldn't know what OS to pick, because most people just want their firmware and don't have any idea what OS has to do with updating their firmware. At this point we're just...

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

Wow. We're really splitting hairs. It's actually "Please select an OS." Then you pick "others." Which implies "other OSes not in the list above." Like Linux. Or Chrome OS. It may make it now more consistent with how they handled BIOSes as you say, but that doesn't make it right. Router...

Is Your Router's Transmit Power Juiced?

Wait. What? Some channels have better transmit power than others? Is this true for 2.4GHz as well? Is this documented somewhere? I live on 4 acres. I can "see" my neighbor's wifi--sometimes. Channel overlap is not an issue for me. So if there are some channels allow/provide more transmit...

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

Picking an OS never made sense. But they shouldn't be under any OS dropdown as it has nothing to do with OS. It was a bad UI design from the beginning. Putting it under "Other" doesn't help. In fact it may be worse.

    Development musings

I've been using your builds for a few years now. First on the RT-AC66R and now the AC3100. I had myself suspicious your firmware was the culprit of some unstable upload speeds--when in fact, my default position should have been: blame Charter. I went back and forth on the official firmware...

    RT-AC3100

Ok, I pulled the trigger on a usb powered cooling pad. I was seeing CPU temps of 78 to 80 when the router wasn't doing anything. It's in a bit of a warm room--but it wasn't over 80F. The cooling pad has my temps at 34 (2.4), 41 (5), and 52(CPU), respectively. Almost a 30 degree improvement...

Ubiquiti Launches Multi-AP Consumer Wi-Fi System

This makes the Star Destroyer I just bought yesterday (AC3100) look silly. Looks like home networking is about to the the "Nest" treatment (yay). That website just oozes the Apple aesthetic (vomit).

Best router to buy this day

I installed a 68p for a colleague (rescued her from a 100 dollar geek squad installation) today and got the fever. I've been running an AC66 for several years and have eyed that 68p for a while but I went the other way, thinking "for only 80 bucks more I can get the AC3100." So I did. I...

Offical ASUS RT-AC88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.2345

Glad I found this in the search function. I just "upgraded" to the AC-3100 from the AC66 today which served me well for 3 years. For now I'm on the stock firmware (3.0.0.4.380_2345). I was on Merlin forever but figured I'd ride stock around just to get a baseline for the router. Anyway--I...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

I'd like to check in. I just happened to check my system log. 32 days, 11 hours, and 53 minutes of rock solid uptime using this version (AC66R). That's just solid work right there.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.51 is out

Agreed. For the record, I'm at 26 days uptime--which might have been when I flashed .51 . . stable as *&%!. I got this thing about stability and I'm happy to wait as long as I need to for .52 . .

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.50 is out

Just reporting in 8 days of uptime on this build. That's an AC66R with lots of clients and activity.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.50 is out

Aaaand this is when you know: It's time to upgrade your router. Running great on the AC66R(U) for me.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.50 Beta 2 is out

No immediate concerns on AC66U(r). Jumped all the way from 376.47.

At what point do you just stop upgrading Merlin FW?

I jumped all the way to Beta 2 . . murdered my full month of up time. :( New stuff looks slick though. I like the enhancements to the network map. I'm assuming all current (known) security fixes are rolled up into this new release.

At what point do you just stop upgrading Merlin FW?

I'm going to catch up tonight. After everyone is in bed and no one is around to scream at me. Hell I might even go for the new beta. :D Just hate to mess with a good thing. On a similar train of thought--you guys think I'll notice anything by buying the 68p (over the 66u)? Along that...

At what point do you just stop upgrading Merlin FW?

I'm at Merlin 376.47. I'm at 27 days of rock solid uptime--and would be longer (possibly much longer) if not for power flickers and outages. I've been watching with interest all the new upgrades but can't bring myself to do it. This version has all the features I want, and, as already...

Asus RT-AC66U for online gaming ( Xbox 360, xbox one.

Like a champ. We have that router. We can have a couple of XB1s going, someone else streaming Netfix, etc. Never had an issue. It's going to come down to your ISP connection before it comes down to the router. Having said that, I wouldn't buy it TODAY unless I could get it substantially...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.48 is out

I'm at 20 days uptime on 47. Would be at least a month if not for power outages. I'm loathe to change it, but there's something shiny and new! 47 has been a great build. May ride it a bit longer.
