    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

I'm assuming Merlin's build is based upon this release, based upon the version number, so I'll stick with his. I'm enjoying my cron jobs.

    Buying New Network Equipment

Don't rent a cable modem. That's one of the bigger ripoffs in the cable industry. This is bad advice. You can get a Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 modem for 80 bucks or so. It will pay for itself in a year. Or you can rent a similar modem from your cable company and pay for it five times over over...

No, SNB is not an "Attack Page"

Confirmed. I thought it gave me the warning from the search bar--but maybe I imagined it--or since the search bar is just a google search. But I definitely get the warning from the Google search.

    Charter and IPv6

Not to derail the thread (I have Charter and am IPV6 curious . . is that like bi-curious? :D) . . but what is the motivation for going IPV6 on a home network? I read that Charter page. It says they are going to make it "seamless" for users. I assume that means that, one day, I'll just up...

So what is the point of Aggressive DHCP query frequency?

So it has to do with how often it will try to obtain a lease in the even of NOT being able to obtain a lease--as during modem startup. It has nothing to do with how often a lease is requested, or the length of the lease. I'm with Charter so I'll leave it to normal.

    Scheduling rebooting??

You know I don't really need this functionality. But I did it anyway. 'Cause it's bad butt. Actually my router sits by my TV--so my excuse is I'm turning it off in the evening for TV purposes. Thanks Merlin. This is pretty cool.

So what is the point of Aggressive DHCP query frequency?

I turned mine to normal. Seems to get a lease from my ISP for 8 hours, and renews with 4 hours to go. I did this specifically because supposedly some ISPs have blocked/banned people because their routers do this too often. I'm with Charter and they were one of the ISPs mentioned. What's...

    Scheduling rebooting??

It's cool you can script the LEDs . . what's the command for on/off? I see the script name but I assume there's a command (like restart_wireless). I can just add that to my services-start file . . (I already have the wifi restarting daily).

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.354.29 Beta 1

    Great. Look forward to it.

    need help with cron job

BOOM. That first step was enough. Thanks.

    How Stable is Beta?

Is it suggested that the 260 version doesn't have issues with the signal drop on 5 Ghz? That's the only issue I have--I don't have some of the issues with Xbox for example that others are having. Maybe I should roll back to that version.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.354.29 Beta 1

Hey Merlin. I would think this has been reported already but I'm posting it just in case. Really minor thing. But it's about the space in the network map--see attached. I thought it was in my head until I switched back to 372. This is very minor and presents no real functional problems.

    need help with cron job

I feel like I'm missing something. I just backed up from the latest semi-official ASUS firmware (372 I think) to the latest Merlin Beta because I want to run a cron job that will restart my wifi every morning (to work around the 5g signal drop). The update seems to go OK--and even creating the...

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

I trust you made reference to this forum and the other people affected by this?

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

I can't believe this is a quality control issue (with the hardware). ASUS makes a ton of hardware and I think that's their specialty. Let's face it--they aren't software people or aren't known for their software ... I don't know--maybe they make BIOS for their motherboards and laptops? I...

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

Yo. Wanna give me a cheat sheet on that? Would appreciate very much. I've used the Telnet client and now my way around a linux command prompt (at a rudimentary level . . I can navigate the folders and probably use vi in a pinch)

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

My 5G signal dropped again--this time after almost 3 days instead of the typical 12 hours. I don't know what part my updating the wifi nic card driver helped, but the problem is not solved for my part. It's better, but I would like this thing to go a little further without needing to be...

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

I'm at 2 days now without the signal issue I experienced before I updated to the latest intel driver. It's such a head fake that it would never have occurred to me that my wireless driver would be the problem. Rebooting the computer didn't help. Disconnecting and reconnecting didn't help...

Best non-asus alternative to the RT-N66U?

I almost hate to say it. My Airport Extreme (4th gen) was 3-4 years old. I just replaced it with the AC66U. I'm hopeful I've worked out my one issue with the 5GHz signal drop (seems promising), so I think I'm going to be happy if so. But Apple supported the 4th gen AE the whole time I...

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

Here I thought windows update was supposed to keep things tidy. I did the update from the device manager, which found one, but then based on this I ran the intel update utility (via browser) and found a much later driver. So I've installed it. And now I'm going around all my other...
