Manually Assigned IP around the DHCP list Revisited

You could always take the devices you want with a static IP and assign the IP manually on the device. Works well for devices that don't move around (like desktops / TV's / etc.) not so well for mobile devices.

RT-AC66U USB Drive Read Only - Why?

FWIW - I attached a USB 2.0 drive to my 68U that was previously directly attached to my PC. When it was attached to my PC, I had created a bunch of folders at the root level, and had one file share pointed to root on the drive. When I attached it to the 68U, the only odd thing was that every...

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.5047

Thanks! Was thinking this wouldn't go anywhere, but will try it anyway. An lo and behold it solved the problem. So, now the question is why? Desktop is 2.4GHz 802.11n. Is about 2 years old. My other 2.4 GHz N clients were working fine. System has a Broadcom chipset.

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.5047

Using plain vanilla Windows 8.1 wireless. Was working fine before the update. Checked my wifes laptop (also 8.1) and it's fine as is her iPhone. I cannot figure this out. The Dell desktop is on 2.4GHz, but so is the HP Printer, iPhone and wife's (ASUS) laptop. Galaxy S3, Nexus 7 and HP Laptop...

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.5047

I told Windows to forget all my wireless profiles. Reconnected to the router. Get 5 bars. Ipconfig shows I have a valid IP address (192.168.1.37). Network sharing center says I'm connected to the Internet. But just trying to go to google com either completely fails or comes back at a snails...

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.5047

So I updated to 5047 on my ac68u. Reset the router and rebooted and then set my parameters all back again manually. All my devices except for my Windows 8.1 desktop connect just fine. The desktop works fine if I use a wired connection; but when I connect wirelessly, it connects, but typically...

ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561 is out

As I have followed this thread, it has caused me to wonder something. Not to diminish in the least the problems that are occuring and the fact that this is a commercially available product with generally released micro code causing this problem; we all know that s*&t can happen and almost...

    Not connecting to Internet

Just moved into a new home with new ISP. Using Cox cable as ISP. When I attach my older Netgear WNDIR 4000 router, I connect to the internet just fine. But when I attach my AC68U, the router comes on and I can can connect to the router, but there is no internet connection. If I look at the...

On the stock 583 firmware. System Log shows uptime of 31+ days. 10 Connected clients - mostly on 2.4GHz. Only Samsung TV on 5.0 GHz right now. Other clients include, Galaxy S3, Nexus 7, iPhone, iPad, Asus Vivobook, Sprint Airave (Wired), Dell Desktop (Wired), HP Laptop (Wired), HP Printer...

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4422

Curiously, it's released under a different number of OS's, including Window 8 32 bit, but not Windows 8 64 bit. Can't imagine what the host OS has to do with this at all.

    DNS Nameserver Problem?

I would only recommend it if you prefer the special features that services like OpenDNS provide, such as porn filters, etc. Otherwise, unless you have a problem with the ISP provided DNS services, let your clients get DNS services from the router. Explicitly setting them can be problematic...

    DNS Nameserver Problem?

For most home users, the ISP provides two DNS IP's as part of its DHCP services. While you can have your router point to these addresses directly, or other DNS providers you might prefer, by default most home routers provide DNS services to their clients indirectly by having the client access a...

Return Nighthawk and buy Asus AC68U

On my older Netgear WNDR4000, I connect it over the 5GHz channel to my Samsung 7100 (model year 2012). Stream HD Netflix and other HD media from Mezzmo media server without any issues. Did recently purchase and started using AC68U, primarily in anticipation to move to new house which is now...

    Cloud Disk Login Settings

I have an ac68u, but I don't think issue is specific to model. Their app is also very dated and busted. When I go to a folder with photos, thumbnails show up on, but when I select one, all I get is a black screen with a tiny refresh symbol in center.

    Cloud Disk Login Settings

I'm trying to figure out how how to get more granular control of the Asus Cloud Disk settings. As I understand things and see from my experience, when it is turned on, you login in to Cloud disk with one's router userid (typically admin) and password settings (I have changed it from the...

Stronger signal on guest network than primary

Well, would like to think its those heavier bits from that long ssid, but actually the primary ssid is shorter than the guest, so couldn't be that. Can't blame it on the MAC address either, it's greater for the guest than the primary. I suppose we'll just have to chalk it up as one of life's...

Stronger signal on guest network than primary

Using WI-FI Analyzer on Google Nexus 7 (2013 edition). This isn't an AC signal strength issue - question is on the 2.4 GHz band. Will try auto and see where that takes me.

Stronger signal on guest network than primary

Sort of nice to hear :), and not trying to confuse myself.but am trying to understand. One would naively think they would either be the same, or if for some reason one was given greater signal strength than the other, that would be to the primary network.

Stronger signal on guest network than primary

No wireless G. Have network set for N only.
