    Band steering in Asus Merlin

Asuswrt-Merlin firmware is actually unrelated to your question. Perhaps even Asuswrt is unrelated. Whatever Asus calls Smart Connect comes from Broadcom. I have tested personally how Smart Connect works on different models Asus routers and found it's radio and drivers related. A good combination...

changed AC68U to AX86U Pro, same guest network setting but all devices gone?

You have Smart Connect enabled in the Wireless > General section. If you continue to have issues, may want to disable the Smart Connect setting and break out each of the main WiFi bands into their own SSID's.

Asus AX-82U Once a month disconnects some smart devices

hello all, I have a disturbing problem. My router disconnects certain devices once a month and devices don't reconnect back, I have to manually reset smart devices to be able to connect them all: Roborock robot, Eufy indoor camera Withings smart scales, And I am extremely disturbed by it...

    RT-AX86U Pro trouble 2.4 devices

...work for me. Even with a lot of diverend settings in the router. They a know hassle with some routers, so ethernet it is. 2) Tried smart connect on and smartconnect off. The result is not that different. 3) Did a test with 2 different SSID. One for 2.4g and one for 5g (just changed...

Tutorial How to use VLANs on your non-pro Asus router with 386 or 388 code (no scripting required)

I have a Zenwifi XD6 and wondering if anyone with this have been able to setup the VPN. Currently I have the guest network operating successfully for my IOT wifi connected devices and these items have a .102.x address vs the standard .1.x address. Reading the post, it sounds like the .102.x...

    Remote connection with CG-NAT

I've got that. What puzzles me is that if a smart device in France can connect to a cloud service and I can then access it inbound why can't I establish an outbound VPN connection to UK? The French connection is metered (pretty generous at 300 Gb/month). Whatever's providing the inbound...

    BE96U firmware 3.0.0.6.102_34488

@Daedalus14: I don't use smart connect here. I used it when I first started using Asus routers, but found that not using it solved several problems...like connecting 2.4GHz. only devices was easier. And I got better connectivity and speed on the separate bands without smart connect. So I hadn't...

Can an original 2022 Asus Wrt be safe?

What is your budget? Do you need Guest Network Pro/VLAN support, what about VPN, AiMesh, etc.? Plenty of routers out there can do WiFi6 for basic home use.

    Band steering in Asus Merlin

+1 My EOL RT-AC66U_B1 doesn't have Smart Connect, so the separate SSIDs per radio is what I use. It works, but I still find some clients get a bit too clingy to a bad signal when moving around. However, there is a setting in Advanced Settings > Wireless > Professional > Roaming assistant. When...

    Release ASUS TUF-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_33419 (2024/10/15)

Well I've separated the bands and under 5hz roaming assistant, put in a value of -90 and disabled 2.4 ghz roaming assistant. Now my AC devices connect to 5hz often compared to previously( under smartconnect single ssids ) where they would connect 2.4 GHz most of the time. I am not sure which...

iPhones not able to connect to AiMesh node

...setup was successful but the problem with the iPhones still remains. I have IoT devices that are able to connect to the Node, just not the iPhones. Also for some reason, my soundbar is right next to the main router, but keeps connecting to the further away Node, even after disabling Smart...

Must have gotten a lemon of a RT-BE96U

I did see Smart Connect in the software. Thanks, I was not aware of this feature. It would be interesting to see how that handles 5/6 and 2.4Ghz handoffs if you walk out of range. What I assumed was that wifi 7 was backwards compatible with all prior standards, so a single tri-band wifi7 AP...

    Band steering in Asus Merlin

But if you use SSIDs separated by radio, it may be that you carry a device far away and the signal is not enough, it does not release that band but it is "difficult" to use the internet... (I don't know if I explained myself correctly...)

MLO: What exactly is Smart Connect's role?

...Ultra and a couple of Intel BE200 cards with Windows 11 (23H2 - so no WiFi 7 support as yet). From my understanding, MLO will act like Smart Connect for low bandwidth requirements on WiFi7 but then can use the additional links, if required, whereas Smart Connect will still service non-WiFi7...

    Quick Network/Guest question

I came to that assumption after numerous searches - I could not find a limit in the documentation I had available. When I first installed the AX88U Pro, I tried to make a more coherent network assignment based on proximity to router or access point. In doing so, I wound up having numerous...

    Quick Network/Guest question

I'm running up against the 32 device limit per radio (2.4 GHz) on my AX88U Pro - this is primarily due to smart home devices (minimal bandwidth switches, etc). My question is do the guest and regular 2.4 GHz share a total of 32 devices or can the guest and regular networks each have their own...

RT-BE86U - how to disable Smart connect?

how is it isolated /alone? not sure what you mean or how you did it. By naming each band SSID, it breaks smart connect function. 2.4G = SSID + password 5G = different SSID + different password and so on. More granular approach. Guest network can assign another set of SSID's and pasword's...
