    TVS-x71 (PT, i3, i5, and i7) CPU+System+HD Temperture? Plex New Transcoder = High CPU usage/temps

Again, that's the least of my worries. I can always buy another cooler.... I've built multiple gaming rigs and have used water coolers for all of them. Not once have I had an issue with any leakage or anything of that nature. I'm an outside the box kind of guy that loves to do outside the box...

    TVS-x71 (PT, i3, i5, and i7) CPU+System+HD Temperture? Plex New Transcoder = High CPU usage/temps

Indeed. I've been thinking about that a lot with the wiring....hopefully I can give the pump its own power by using one of the pin slots on the motherboard. Hmm....

    TVS-x71 (PT, i3, i5, and i7) CPU+System+HD Temperture? Plex New Transcoder = High CPU usage/temps

Yes the Intel BXTS13X seems really nice. A lot of folks speak highly of it. I'm not too concerned about the what if's....heck a meteor can strike the office and that would be considered a failure too....I personally don't get tied up in the worries and what if's honestly. Anything could happen...

    TVS-x71 (PT, i3, i5, and i7) CPU+System+HD Temperture? Plex New Transcoder = High CPU usage/temps

Yes I reused the heat spreader. As for the stock fans, I'm in favor of leaving those intact and to get a single fan closed looped cooler and place that outside fan #2 (so if you're looking at the back, the right fan.) I think the Intel BXTS13X will work great as the hoses seem to run...

Great find! As you can see, if you're looking for 1080p transcoding, it's wise to go with at least an i3. This pretty much says it all in that the Atom's, Celeron's, etc....can't handle anything that requires power. Even the J1900, although might can handle one high bit rate transcoding, try...

    TVS-x71 (PT, i3, i5, and i7) CPU+System+HD Temperture? Plex New Transcoder = High CPU usage/temps

Indeed. I really feel that the stock heat sink unit is way too little for an i7. (dissipating heat ability wise.) QNAP should have thought this through a little better. If I was on their design team, I'd make sure to provide a heat sink to accommodate the highest of demands under full load...

    TVS-x71 (PT, i3, i5, and i7) CPU+System+HD Temperture? Plex New Transcoder = High CPU usage/temps

Haha! Thanks...It was definitely worth it, at least for me. My ambient temps are only 22C, which is normal, however what is not normal is that my NAS is worked hard all the time. With multiple people streaming and using VM's it really takes a beating so the CPU is always revving in the 75-80%+...

    TVS-x71 (PT, i3, i5, and i7) CPU+System+HD Temperture? Plex New Transcoder = High CPU usage/temps

Yes, I put the stock heat sink back on, however, I am looking into this SLIM SilverStone closed loop cooler as I think it'll fit pretty well. I've measured everything and everything looks good. The only thing is the wiring. I know the wires for the power, but as for the other wires I'll need to...

I'd go with the 471 right now and in 3 years or so just upgrade to the latest one at that time.

Oh I see. Hmmm....give Austria a try. If you can get it shipped to where you will be staying, that'll be good. Good Luck!

Great to hear from you. It is refreshing to have you nail the CPU debate to the coffin, in clearing the air in the fact that you indeed need the horsepower. You're absolutely right. I've stated this several times in that a petty Atom CPU is worthless when it comes to anything performance...

    QTS 4.2 - Live Demo/Simulator

I like how they moved up the Dashboard icon from the bottom right to the far upper right. The blue loading window in the beginning screamed Windows LOL...whereas the icon set yells Android! Pretty neat....I like it... Oh and how Classic...HD Warning messages with the fans going Mach 3! HAHA...

Indeed. The harsh reality here for the OP is being limited with his choosing on 8-bay NAS's, as the price seems to be a slim variable hovering in the $$$$ range that comes with the territory. This is one of the reasons why I've recommend him going with the base model to save some bucks. When he...

You're absolutely right about the QNAP sponsored community. It's quite a place of uncertainty and ....well some things are best left unsaid. This is indeed a great community and I'm really enjoying the wealth of knowledge and kind people who contribute to it.

Thank you. I'm still not sure what was derogatory about my statement. If anything, I believe it would have been more appropriate to direct your comment to him beginning the sentence with 17 years...that was just unnecessary to begin with. Anyhow, back to the topic. I think the OP will get by...
