802.11ac - Did the FCC kick the chair from underneath Tx Beamforming?

Until the most recent firmware for my Asus AC56u, having beamforming enabled gave better range and performance....now, its the opposite. Probably just something they changed in the newer wifi driver...but still makes me wonder in the future implementation of this beamfourming tech.

    Is DD-WRT still relevant?

I never liked DD-WRT....its way over complicated. For those who actuly need all that, fine. More complicated something is, more risk of something going wrong. I just want pure routing performance, and prefer TomatoUSB (toastman builds) over DD-WRT or OpenWRT. But not all models support these.

    WRT1900AC - New Firmware v1.1.7.160582 Available

Just saw on the Linksys forums, new FW has been released for the WRT...via the router GUI. Not posted to the Linksys website yet...so no change-log as of yet. http://community.linksys.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/WRT1900AC-New-Firmware-v1-1-7-160582-Available/td-p/814248/highlight/false I updated...

    Optimal 5ghz settings

Just wanted to share my 5ghz wifi settings for my AC56U. This seems to give me the best performance. Many of these settings are on other Asus routers, so others may benefit from adjusting some of these settings. First off, I only use 5ghz band and only have 2 wifi devices, a Laptop with an...

Linksys WRT1900AC AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Router Review

OpenVPN is built in..and worked out of the box and was super easy to setup..doesn't matter to me if L2TP is technically a better performer. (It is not offered as a server mode in the Asus router anyway) OpenVPN still has no issue maxing out my ISP connection and I have read several threads...

    ASUS RT-AC56U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.5656

That did the trick! I wasn't even aware of that setting! I wouldn't even think to look in the WiFi settings for a USB related setting...especially not the 2.4g band, as I have that disabled. How does 2.4g wifi affect a usb port?...never heard of that.

Linksys WRT1900AC AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Router Review

First off...these items I listed are included on routers nearly half the price. 1. Install a DDNS client? Who is "them"that you are referring to? The Asus DDNS service is buit-in to the router, there is no software to install. And, my IP does change frequently. I will not pay for a service...

    ASUS RT-AC56U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.5656

HDD wont detect in 3.0 port I tried to plug in a USB 3.0 hdd to my 56U (same one I used to test the WRT router). Been quite a while since I tried their Cloud Disk feature. Wanted to see if they have improved it any and also test network share speeds. The router is not seeing the hdd in the...

RT-N66U and Asus Dynamic DNS ([myHost].asuscomm.com)

I used DYNDNS for a few years. But canceled it after I got my Asus router since it has free DDNS service, which works perfectly. No-IP has a free DDNS service, but hostnames expire every 30 days....no thanks. I wish more routers supported FreeDNS(afraid.org). I use that on all my Tomato...

    AC56U firmware options

My AC56U is rock solid...I use current stock firmware. (Only had a few issues with early firmware releases while back.) Been running good for months now. I may get a random reboot 1x every month or 2, but that's about it.

    ASUS RT-AC56U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.5656

Beam forming Odd. Asus must have done done something with this new firmware. I disabled beam forming...and I got a boost in wifi performance on my Intel 7260 and my S3. File transfers close range went from 45-50MB's to 55-60MB's. Odd, because it was the opposite effect before the upgrade.

WRT1900AC compared to Asus AC56U. I hooked the WRT1900AC up in place of my Asus AC56U for a few hours. Using current (at the time) firmware: Linksys Ver.1.1.7.160177 (Update, tested newer FW .160582..got same results) Asus: 3.0.0.4.374_5656 Computers used: Samsung Series 7 Laptop NP700Z7C...

Intial Expercience I just got the WRT1900AC, though it came much later than expected, so I am not able to fully test and use it in place of my Asus AC56U at the moment. My Initial Experience: (just a quick setup) Very nicely packaged. Very high end packing and padding. This router is quite...

Sorry, can't comment on that. I don't have 2.4 band enabled. I can't use that band, 30+ 2.4g networks in range.. I only use 5ghz.

    Linksys WRT1900AC First User Reports

Asus was not openly advertising and bragging about how their product is ready and designed for the OpenSource community as Linksys is about their WRT. It surprises me that Linksys did not put much thought in to recovery by insuring a easy to use, straightforward fallback recovery mode or...

    Linksys WRT1900AC First User Reports

Exactly! Only those that know what they are doing should flash the early builds OpenWRT. But some are posting links to it with no warning or thought of the risk or seem to think they are perfectly stable releases. A few people seem to have no issues, but there are definitely others that...
