ISP has changed its high speed cable plans?

They are , almost, always very eager to to help me out. A few times, I have gotten some non caring person that would not do much. I called back a few days later and got some one else that was very helpful. Course, they try to up-sell you. They deceive you into thinking that they can lower...

    Advice on Asus router

Unless you want to use USB dongles, or can upgrade the wifi card in your wireless devices ....buying top end AC wifi routers, the ones that do 1gbps and higher, is kinda pointless as you really can't make any use of the new wifi speeds with older adapters. I am limited with 2 antennas in my...

ISP has changed its high speed cable plans?

I call both CenturyLink (my ISP) and Comcast(my CATV provider) every 6 months and get their loyalty department and demand/beg/inquire about lower rates. Works every-time.

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

Is the network location set to Home and not public? Also, you have to enable discovery of devices and enable file/printer sharing. It gives a pop up or some notice that feature is disabled when you first load the Network page in explorer.

RT-N66U and Asus Dynamic DNS ([myHost].asuscomm.com)

CORRECTION: Never-mind. I messed up what service I use. It is ChangeIP free service. (host-names do not expire after 30days.)

Why do laptops still come with crappy 1x1 N cards?

Even in mid to high end laptops.....I see 2x2 cards....often with only one antenna installed. All of the newer HP Probooks I have worked on are this way. Many Lenovo thinkpads and Dell Latitude and Precisions too....seems to be a trend in business class laptops, crappy wifi cards. Price...

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

I never said anything about circumventing anything. Regardless of what the EULA says, (no one, especially average consumers, ever reads those long and jargon filled things anyway) The product still works. If Microsoft was serious about it, they would then have their software disable itself...

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

I am not "advocating" anything. I am stating a known fact about current Windows Operating Systems. Not my fault that Microsoft made their software like that.

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

The main point I was saying... Is that....if you already have a spare computer... Then, all you have to do is download FreeNAS and install it to a flash drive and boot computer from it. Cost is completely free, in this case. (as is my case) (or u can get a refurb or used sytem for around...

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

FreeNAS...or NAS4FREE..is not crude at all. So many features, and so powerful and fast. And free.

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

People concerned about how much power NAS or routers take....think about cable set top boxs.....this article seems to say they are costing you a good chunk of money. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-power-hog-20140617-story.html#page=1

ASUS RT-AC66U and OpenVPN -- Startup Script?

There is a bug in the latest firmwares that ....for some reason....OpenVPN service does not auto launch after a reboot. You just have to log in to the GUI and click the Apply button and the service starts. For me, I login remotely to the GUI over the internet, or use Teamviewer to remote...

    WRT1900AC Spontaneous Reboots, lockups

Thanks for all the suggestions and thoughts, however, changing anything on my Asus router side is not an option. It has a static DHCP reservation set(in the Asus router)as 192.168.0.202 for the MAC of the WRT, however the WRT ignores it and also refuses to stay on the same network for its...

    WRT1900AC Spontaneous Reboots, lockups

I had the WRT IP set to static ip of 192.168.0.202. When I connected it to my asus router, which is 192.168.0.200, just to check for firmware updates...and to play around with the UI some more...the Linksys reset it self to an ip address of 10.0.X.X (don't remember the exact address) and...

    WRT1900AC Spontaneous Reboots, lockups

The thing is, I am not resetting the Linksys at all. It is doing it on its own when it detects a different WAN.

    WRT1900AC Spontaneous Reboots, lockups

It is somewhat related...in that previous posts(if I am not confusing threads) there were reports of the router rebooting or freezing when changing settings in the UI. My additional trouble is that certain settings aren't sticking when they should be, but then I am told that that is normal...

    WRT1900AC Spontaneous Reboots, lockups

Wrong. First, the DCHP reservation screen took alot longer than it should to find where they buried it. Second, The Linksys requires an additional field called Device name, then they split the last 2 decimals of the IP address into 2 separate fields. Then the MAC address field. Then you have to...
