Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

As soon as I switch Node0 to router mode, the whole system gets flaky and I lose the other nodes. I guess I'll just have to live with the Asus node0 in AP mode. When I have time, I can change the fiber modem/router to bridge mode and see if my TV still works when connected directly to it. If so...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

Thanks Gustour, I have also been asking follow-up questions on the support forum of my provider. My TV box (a simple android-like box), provided by the same ISP, needs to be connected directly to the Fiber modem or it will not work. In answer to your question about the switch: I have more...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

And yet it works. The main switch has Ethernet connections to the rooms upstairs where nodes 3 and 4 are connected and all show up in the mesh diagram with wired connection, as I wanted. Now I have to decide whether to change the fiber router to bridge and reactivate node 0 as router (in which...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

This is how I have it set up. The whole house (meaning the other ethernet ports, which each have switches hanging off them, with the nodes and with wired devices (NAS, Media player, TVs, etc) connected to those secondary switches. In this diagram, wherever you see a wired node, there is in most...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

Thank you, I’ll send my diagram tomorrow morning when I’m at the computer. I’m not daisy chained either (all nodes are connected to a switch with wires across the house . However: node 0 is connected to the main switch as is the fiber modem.

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

I appreciate you taking the time to send this info. However: the wiring diagram is how I had tried to set it up at first and nothing worked as soon as I put node 1 in the chain. All I got was blinking blue leds on all the asus nodes. So I'm guessing there is a config setting about double NAT...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

What I want to happen, is for Asus XT8's across the house to give me full speed wifi thanks to an ethernet connection to the fiber modem downstairs. If there is another config to achieve that AND give me the protections you referenced above, I'm all ears. All I know is: with node0 as router, no...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

Thanks Guys. @Tech9 : the internet gateway (insofar as I understand), is provided by the ISP fiber modem/router. @Gustour: if I set up the config like you described, do I re-activate the router function in Node0? Or, put another way, how to I prevent double NAT and not turn off the router...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

No worries. The issue was resolved. My original config was Fiber Modem - ethernet- 2.5GB Switch - ethernet - XT8 router (node 0) - XT8 nodes 1-4 via wifi. The issue was I did not turn off DHCP on node 0. Once I did that (turned node 0 from router to access point), I was then able to add nodes...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

Update (in case this is useful for anyone in a similar situation): I took down the entire mesh and started from scratch: 1. reset node 0 to factory settings and connected it to the 2.5GB switch next to the fiber modem 2. I changed the operating mode from 'Router' to 'access point', thereby...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

Interesting phenomenon I witnessed during the late evening and throughout the night. The blinking blue led seems to migrate / rotate through the other nodes (the ones which were always wired and stable). I got periodic interruptions in the living room as I was streaming content from the NAS. The...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

thank you for all the tips. It is a wall-plate ethernet jack in the upstairs rooms. However, I use the exact same patch cord that I test the laptop's direct connection, so the patch cord cannot be a factor. I'll play a bit more with the other suggestions.

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

Should I try to do a factory reset on these two and then set them up as fresh nodes (set them next to the master AND connect them to the LAN? If so, do I connect the WAN port of the node to a LAN port of the master (or the switch)? Something else?

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

Just did my additional test with the exact same result on the second upstairs node. Ethernet port gives my laptop a direct 1GB signal. Plugged the XT9 into the ethernet port => blue blinking LED I if I plug an ethernet cable in one of the LAN ports of the node, I still get full GB signal, but...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

As an additional test, I will test laptop-ethernet connectivity in the second bedroom (where the one remaining ethernetport is). Then I will move the XT9 (currently working via wifi) from the upstairs office into bedroom 2, turn it back on with ethernet connection and see if it behaves in the...

no, the troubled node is further away on the second floor, in the master bedroom. the upper node is 20 feet away and with 2 walls between them

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

The whole system looks like this. The dead one is connected via ethernet upstairs but nor recognized (and the subject of this conversation. The XT9 far right is the second one I want to connect to ethernet because of the weak signal but it is currently only wifi until I resolve the issue with...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

I have 5 nodes in total (I was hoping to do it with 3, maximum 4, as long as they were on ethernet). When I try to switch to ethernet backhaul, it says it can't do it because not all nodes are connected to ethernet. Strangely, it lists among the nodes not connected to ethernet, the main XT8...

Adding XT8 to the mesh with ethernet connection - blinking blue led

ok thanks, I understand what you're asking me to try, I think: kill all nodes which rely on wifi and then switch the Mesh to ethernet backhaul. If I don't do that, the mesh will report that all nodes are not on ethernet and it will refuse the switch to ethernet backhaul. At the moment, all nodes...
