Has anyone successfully used collectd to monitor temperature / thermal values ?

    Thanks @Yota that's exactly what I had done indeed, following the above idea of skipping collectd altogether. I ended up with this: /tmp/home/root# crontab -l | grep temp * * * * * /jffs/scripts/temp.sh where: /tmp/home/root# cat /jffs/scripts/temp.sh #!/bin/sh INFLUXDB_IP=192.168.1.15...

Has anyone successfully used collectd to monitor temperature / thermal values ?

Thanks @amplatfus, I'll check it out ! I think it'd need some changes (the RT-AC5300 is not an HDN platform so the dev to monitor CPU temp is different, but the very same principle applies) also in order to make it send the metric directly to influx via curl perhaps (this would skip collectd...

Has anyone successfully used collectd to monitor temperature / thermal values ?

To share with anyone that might pass from here while in the same quest, I've meanwhile also read here in the forum and successfully tried the SNMP-way to collect the temp, by adding to snmp.add.conf and a shell script as needed. I also configured and SNMPv3 and tried successfully an SNMP...

Has anyone successfully used collectd to monitor temperature / thermal values ?

Hi to all, I've already in place a collectd-influxdb-grafana chain that monitors a few metrics (network, mem and load) on my Asus RT-AC5300. I'm now in need to retrieve also the CPU thermal value. I've looked here in the forum: getting it via CLI is as simple as: cat /proc/dmu/temperature...

    Switching from RT-AC5300 to RT-AC86U

Thanks @heysoundude, I concur with you for the interesting upgrade on the 2.5G once it'll be widespread (on devices as well) and affordable. For the moment, I'd be fine to understand I'm going to improve from the computational platform point of view since it's quite exploited at the moment.-

    Switching from RT-AC5300 to RT-AC86U

Thanks @bbunge for your opinion. Indeed, if I'm faced with a good deal for an AX device that has no less RAM than 512MB and no less computation power than the above devices (and is as stable and reliable as those), I will most probably jump once more.

Any benefit or harm to turning off wifi at night?

My 2 cents: if IoT devices in the house are not hindering the idea of turning the wifi off if there are not another 10 wifi networks besides your outer flat's wall while science tries to settle down (but it'll take quite a bit yet, it's stil a bet for everyone at best) why keeping the wifi on...

    Switching from RT-AC5300 to RT-AC86U

Hi, I'm currently running an RT-AC5300 since a couple of years with absolute no problems, and I can now get an almost-new RT-AC86U with a very good deal. To start with: I only occasionally use wifi in the room (uninhabited basement) where the router is located and have no special speed...

Can't stream Sky (SkyGo app) if my Android phone is connected directly to my Asus RT-AC5300

Found out, in the only place which I missed to check: the Web & Apps Filter in the Network Parental control. Specifically, I had set the Adult filter (I have it on all devices at home) and it looks like both streaming incur that filter (indeed, you can always ask for adult content in Sky, and...

Can't stream Sky (SkyGo app) if my Android phone is connected directly to my Asus RT-AC5300

Hi, I'm facing a very weird situation. My current setup has an Asus RT-AC5300 updated to the latest 386.2_2 Merlin. Long story short: I can't use the SkyGo app on my Huawei P20 Pro to stream live contents, I always get an error. I can stream in 4G. Also, for the sake of curiosity I'm...

    RT-AC86U or RT-AX58U

Starting to look around again for a no-rush upgrade to my RT-AC5300 (which I use mostly for its processing power and memory more than for its WiFi performances), I'm wondering what other devices have this AES acceleration for VPNs. Looking at the Asus website it's not listed for AC86U (nor for...

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

Meanwhile, I've reviewed what we've written here and what we've tried. I noticed that one of these ADUPS domains, as I reported here, it's actually in the blocking list of diversion. Which, I thought, might come from Skynet ? I've run 3 times in a row Skynet's malware blocklist update, and ... I...

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

Done, empty results. As I was there, I added a: grep -R -i bigdata * which was empty too, but the following did hit a result: grep -R -i "bookofstorage" * | head skynet.ipset:add Skynet-Blacklist 69.10.62.204 comment "BanAiProtect: us.bookofstorage.pw" which gives perhaps only half an...

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

As it searches its own event log it's perhaps explainable that it can't find anything because there's actually no traffic against those domains (they're even blocked in the outer firewall). But it might be enough to try to translate them to trigger the Suricata rules. Crontab entries for Skynet...

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

I did this and didn't show anything. Does it search for configured manual bans, or logged entries for matches against manual bans ?

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

Could it be that's one of the security/protection services in the router itself that's trying to translate those domains to keep an updated list of their related IPs ? Perhaps even an old manual entry like in Skynet ? How could I check ? I've been looking a way to list manual bans on Skynet but...

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

That's a good point Dave (to look at processes and installed packages), I've tried looking at it but to my eyes I can't see anything which is a candidate for the issue. Anyway, here it is. I've listed installed packages in a "raw view" seen by opkg itself, and the organised view as seen by amtm...

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

You're right, that's their stated purpose. But it's the "how they do it" (and what also they do along with it) what has raised concerns. (And so I don't understand why 127.0.0.1 would need them).

Apparently the box is querying flagged DNS domains by itself

Hi Colin, of course we do ... But at 2:26am we were all sleeping so all of them are always either turned off or disconnected. I originally had a chinese kody box, and that was when I first got aware of these ADUPS domains and their risk. But that was years ago, and requests were clearly logged...
