Configuring OpenVPN for Merlin - Updated EasyRSA no longer works on Windows

You might be correct. It was ./easytls init-tls that failed on Windows. However, as a practical matter it makes no real difference. I'm forced to generate needed files on Linux. I am in the middle of generation, but it looks like generating the EasyRSA/EasyTLS stuff on Linux and transferring...

Configuring OpenVPN for Merlin - Updated EasyRSA no longer works on Windows

I got an answer from GitHub, EasyRSA does not work on Windows! https://github.com/TinCanTech/easy-tls/issues/313

Configuring OpenVPN for Merlin - Updated EasyRSA no longer works on Windows

It has been a long time since I wrote this. I have moved to a new computer and am pulling my hair out. As far as I can tell the OpenVPN forum is not accepting new posts (please tell me how if you still can). I'm getting a "OPENSSL_Uplink(00007FFEF543FAC8,08): no OPENSSL_Applink" error when I...

AiMesh Newbie - will it improve latency vs an Access Point

    Thanks much! Very, very appreciated!

AiMesh Newbie - will it improve latency vs an Access Point

Thanks, while you didn't answer my question about AiMesh (and your comment about mesh is dumb without saying why didn't help). It did point me in a good direction. So, again Thanks! It would appear that my latency problems lie outside my home network and whether I add a extra internal hop...

AiMesh Newbie - will it improve latency vs an Access Point

Thanks. I didn't make myself clear. I don't understand how AiMesh works. I don't know if it has any latency advantages over my current setup. Right now I have: Cable modem <---> AC68U <----> (four Deco M5s). The M5s provide the access point that I use to access wifi. I'm curious if: Cable...

AiMesh Newbie - will it improve latency vs an Access Point

I currently have an AC68U (running Merlin for OpenVPN) connected to a Deco M5 mesh network for wifi coverage. The Decos provide needed coverage for the entire house. The Deco network is configured as an access point. I have one streaming service that is sensitive to the extra latency the Deco...

Configuring OpenVPN for Merlin - Updated EasyRSA no longer works on Windows

NOTE: EasyRSA no longer works on windows https://github.com/TinCanTech/easy-tls/issues/313 (use Linux for EasyRSA) I replaced my router and needed to set up OpenVPN again. My old setup was quite old and I went with the latest Easy RSA 3. Hopefully the following will make it easier for others...

Any need to generate new .crt, .key, .ovpn when moving from an old OpenVPN?

A bit late, but thanks! I now had to learn easy-rsa 3 :(, To save others the effort, here is the best tutorial I could find.

Any need to generate new .crt, .key, .ovpn when moving from an old OpenVPN?

Apologies if this has been covered, but I can't find the answer. In 2015 I generated .crt, .key, and .ovpn files and am moving to a new router and the latest Merlin. I was using these same files successfully from a 2018 Merlin release. Is there any need to go through the generation process...

RT-AC87U not updating DDNS IP address

Zirescu, THANK YOU! I had exactly the same issue and found your answer. Also, it appears that you don't have to wait 12 hours, you can go to http://iplookup.asus.com/nslookup.php and enter your original/desired asuscomm.com name and see if it is still registered. If it can't be resolved that...

    Permanent Ping

FWIW - Here is a good set of Cron examples: http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2011/07/cron-every-5-minutes/ From the article: The first field is for Minutes. If you specify * in this field, it runs every minute. If you specify */5 in the 1st field, it runs every 5 minutes ...

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

Works!!! Thanks to Bob and NoSubstitute! First, I want to acknowledge that I was a total bonehead and missed a key point in Bob's message. He said to install a "Local" printer. I read the tcp/ip mention and my brain said "network". So I initially went down the wrong path. Thanks to...

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

Bob, I decided to try your suggestion, but I have a problem. The printer is connected to my router's USB port (perhaps that is the problem? I hope not, as it only has a USB connection). Anyway, I put the router's IP address in the "Hostname or IP address:" box, but I'm not sure what to put...

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

No I haven't tried the latest RMerlin. I'm happy with the version I have and don't want to go through the disruption of updating unless I knew the problem was solved. The utility is a separate executable on the ASUS site. I'm not familiar with how to determine the fixes in the RMerlin...

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

FWIW - I checked with ASUS this week. They still don't have an update nor do they have any idea when one will become available. (Actually I'm not even sure that the support guys have ANY contact with the developers).

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

Tony, Thanks but I don't think it would work, as the operating system is not aware that the USB device (printer) even exists. That is the part that is broken. The router's printer utility does discover that there is a USB printer attached to the router, but it is unsuccessful in...

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

Not sure which 64-bit printer driver you are speaking of. The one I downloaded from the router (Merlin 3.0.0.4.260.21 ) worked on Win 8.0 but when I upgraded to Win 8.1 it no longer worked. Are you referring to some sort of Microsoft printer driver or what?

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

How to update once the fix is available? I asked ASUS if the utility would be a separate update or would be bundled in a complete release of the router software. This was their response: The new MEP utility will be released in a whole new utility package. Any idea what that means?

EZ Printer and Win 8.1 problems

ASUS tech support said that their printer setup utility does not work with Windows 8.1, "but will release it in the near future". (It would be great if the utility could be an updated to an existing router without a complete reinstall of the total software).
