    Security Issue AC87

I caught this bit of data in my log. The ip's trace to known bad actors, but this is a new twist tapping high ports, etc. I've seen the bot scans for PPTP b ut this is different than normal, perhaps OpenVPN scans? I don't know, can someone take a look at this? I can send the log in full if...

    Has Asus abandoned asuscomm.com DDNS

o_O Ah, I see. Oh, phooey! Well if it's not asuscomm.com, that leaves me with my setup which worked but intermittently failed with increasing frequency until I changed DDNS providers and hardware and software (hmm, bunch of changes all at once, that never muddies the water) at which point it...

    Has Asus abandoned asuscomm.com DDNS

Thank you for the clarification — yes. However, as fun as all of this is I do think we've gotten just a bit off track here. That is unless the point is that using isitdownorjust.me to verify up/down status is an invalid test if one doesn't use their myname.asuscomm.com v just asuscomm.com. If...

    Has Asus abandoned asuscomm.com DDNS

In this case I am using: FQDN: WWW.myname.com PQDN: yourname.myname.com which assumes asuscomm.com does not allow myname.asuscomm.com to exist on root. Certainly, yourname.myname.com can be an FQDN if it reaches up to the root, but my assumption is that only asuscomm.com can reach the...

    Has Asus abandoned asuscomm.com DDNS

Maybe I'm wrong here (I suspect someone will tell me ;)), but in order for the PQDN (partially qualified domain name, e.g., mydomain.asuscomm.com) to be in any way functional, the FQDN (fully qualified domain name, e.g., www.asuscomm.com) would have to at least have a landing page or some...

    Has Asus abandoned asuscomm.com DDNS

Very similar to what I have been experiencing for some time, except it usually shows as asuscomm.com DOWN at isitdownorjust.me and whether or not it comes back up is a coin toss at best. To me this speaks of benign neglect at best and outright unannounced abandonment at worst. Perhaps I'm...

    Has Asus abandoned asuscomm.com DDNS

Everyone: Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner (like September 16!). There was an on-going emergency I had to attend to and it has just resolved—I hope. It's only updating as often as the OEM FW called for it to, which I am thinking is dependent on whether or not it successfully confirms the...

Review New In the Charts: ASUS RT-AX58U

The COVID period since Fall 2020 is anomalous. Judging any company strictly by that measure should be looked at as invalid unless it is a start-up that began life during the still-ongoing COVID period. That said, I too am a long-standing Dell desktop/laptop customer and have also been a...

    Has Asus abandoned asuscomm.com DDNS

Over the last year or more I have noticed asuscomm.com is increasingly down and not functioning. This has happened so often and so long that is has passed any imagined "tipping point" and has now become the rule, rather than the exception. On any given day at any given time it has become...

Solved Help: ovpn activated w/out admin input, bad actor ip inside, functioning ping

Thanks @Tech9. So you can do it in OpenVPN on the router, but not for PPTP. I wonder why? Too bad, really — it might save all those pesky script-fishing log entries!

Solved Help: ovpn activated w/out admin input, bad actor ip inside, functioning ping

I've been preferring the Asus VPN for ease of administration as the person most likely to follow me into this role is even less adept than I am — if that's even possible — and I got a lot of push-back over trying to implement ovpn, but in the Asus both use common ports. I might try running the...

Solved Help: ovpn activated w/out admin input, bad actor ip inside, functioning ping

Thanks Colin! What really had me going was having ovpn operational at all, which I did not recall doing. The only thing I can come up with is "distracted administrating". Thanks for the links. I meant to mention AbuseIPDB but my original post was too long and it disappeared in the edit. The...

Solved Help: ovpn activated w/out admin input, bad actor ip inside, functioning ping

Hi, Gang! Sky here. Our VPN went offline last week. At the same time, Is it down, or just me was and continued reporting asuscomm.com down. I had attributed it to the wildfires in the wider area impeding switches, etc., etc. By down I mean users were unable to login in just timing out or being...

HELP: VPN client can't connect to RT-AC87R after FW update

Solved ASUS RT-AC87 System log missing days (Synology issue?)

RESOLVED Well, I managed to figure this one out. o_O Sure enough, the Syno has a *known issue* of intermittently messing up the Asus when it writes commands to it to use UPnP. The fix was to return to disabling UPnP and open a port on the router with due security, etc. Sky
