    Network Monitoring vs NCSI (dns.msftncsi.com)

See ASUS FAQ: [Administration] How to set up Network Detection to make sure your router’s time zone synchronizes with NTP server? (updated 2020 02-25)

Which ASUS router to buy for OpenVPN

 YIKES! Sorry about that! @RGG, just ignore my post. I've sanitized it so as not to do further damage to unsuspecting readers. I have 87 on the brain. It may be a mental disorder.

    Network Monitoring vs NCSI (dns.msftncsi.com)

Thanks! So is Network Monitoring actually a decent way to get more reliable Time Syncs? I've tried a variety of ntp settings but none seem to work more than a couple of weeks before they vacation in Flake-O Land, which is just outside of Seattle I believe.

Which ASUS router to buy for OpenVPN

If you're willing to stretch your budget you can step up to an RT-AC87U. I see one on eBay for $63, or several and several at Amazon for $90-$100. It would doubtless be worth the extra money. RMerlin had this to say about OpenVPN on the RT-AC87U, "As I expected, this router is a beast for...

Slow HDD Data Transfer on VPN

Pabla, I'm surprised no one ever answered your question. Sorry about that. Yes, VPN speeds are always going to be slower than your local network. There are many technical things going on but to put it simply, when you use a VPN: the information travels through your network to your VPN...

    Network Monitoring vs NCSI (dns.msftncsi.com)

I often see delays getting a good time sync in my System log, so I was thinking about enabling Network Monitoring [Administration > System > Network Monitoring]. When I clicked [x] DNS Query, I was surprised to see the following entries already there: Resolve Hostname [dns.msftncsi.com]...

I’m terrified and am so hoping someone can help me

I know I'm too late here to do any good, but I'm kind of surprised no one suggested to the OP that he: Power-off and disconnect all wires including cable & power from all of the modem(s) router(s) computer(s) any IoT connected devices (sorry SmartTV, cameras, and such, but...

"Firefox continues push to bring DNS over HTTPS by default for US users"

I can see the utility for a couple of my users just to save me from headaches. That said, it would seem browser corruption is already something we contend with regularly. Do you know of some way to reduce the browser corruption we already fight? If not, isn't it kind of an option to at least...

Two-Way IPS: Exploit Remote Command Execution, Netcore Router Backdoor Access

This is really interesting to me. We have a 300 Mbps feed into the building I'm in right now and it usually runs 325-350 down/15-16 up. There are commonly 28-33 mixed devices connected here and all but 6 are WiFi. The topology is pretty simple: ....... .......<> ))) ....2.4 GHz endpoints...

Two-Way IPS: Exploit Remote Command Execution, Netcore Router Backdoor Access

_OR_ You could just revert to the OEM ASUS FW. ASUS is still actively providing f-r-e-e FW updates for this device, versus whatever $$ an upgrade may run; assuming the device still provides satisfactory service. Of course I'm so late to this party it's doubtless a fait acompli.

Solved Can WPA3 be implimented on RT-AC87U/R routers via firmware

I see what you mean. I didn't realize there was also a hardware requirement for implementation. Venturing over to WiFi.org it looks like the only ASUS out right now that supports WPA3 is the RT-AX88U and the GT-AX11000. Tryin' to stay a step ahead...

    ASUS RT-AC87U_9.0.0.4_384_110

FYI: A few minutes ago I noticed using WinFi Lite that if you select the funnel icon (Filters), beginning with Network Filter [SSID's] and going down the list every option is crashing under Windows 10 Pro x64 v1909 on my system. The other things look to be working just fine and it's still a very...

Solved RT-AC87R iPad Air 2 intermittently dropping connections

I notice using WinFi Lite that it crashes under Windows 10 Pro x64 v1909 for all filter menu items beginning with Network Filter [SSID's] and going down the list. At least on my system. Every option for those 7 out of 8 menus under Network Filter crashes. I notified the author but was wondering...

Solved Can WPA3 be implimented on RT-AC87U/R routers via firmware

Considering the issues with CVE-2019-15126 (krOOk), et al compromising even AES WPA2, is WPA3 something that can be implemented on the ASUS RT-AC87 routers? Sky

    ASUS RT-AC87U_9.0.0.4_384_110

You might be ahead to start by downloading WinFi Lite (assuming you're using Win10) and see what the environment looks like. It could be a lot easier than you think. Go here for the forum discussion from last September...

Solved RT-AC87R iPad Air 2 intermittently dropping connections

Using now. That is a very nice utility indeed! The RT-AC87R using stock ASUSWRT fw limits the 5.2GHz channel selections to Auto/36:48/149-165. Nothing from 52 to 144 is selectable, which is unfortunate because I have gobs of totally free channels in the 52:144 range and 149:165 is supposed to...

Solved RT-AC87R iPad Air 2 intermittently dropping connections

Is there a way to set the 52:64 range of channels in the 5.2GHz band on the Asus RT-AC97R? I'm using ASUSWRT and it only allows Auto, 36:48, and 149:165. In my area the 52:64 range would be ideal, the others being for ICM.

Solved Requesting log review of possible attack

That's weirdly nice to hear. Is there a right tool for blocking WAN IPs or groups of IPs? I realize PPTP is insecure and obsolete, but there are some reasons *for now* that I have to use it hence my question: "If a legitimate user needs to use the VPN, will/can this activity effect...
