I personally stopped using such projects with weekly updates. You understand no one has 250 different router models to test all those builds, they are automatically generated, use at your own risk kind of deal. Hard to beat it's WiFi performance in consumer market. Very good Qualcomm router for OpenWrt. DD-WRT folks are jumping ships one by one after key people switched to OpenWrt development. Tomato is not dead, but router choices are limited. I wish I could run Tomato on RT-AC86U, for example.- Val D.

RT-AC86U 5GHz Automatically Disables?
I don't know about him, but for me 384.12/13 (same WiFi drivers) had more consistent and reliable WiFi performance than 384.14/15 (same WiFi drivers). This update of drivers was one of my reasons to sell the router. Most WiFi related issues reported here on SNB are also 384.14/15 related. 386.16...- Val D.

What the warranty on the replacement? Because if you had total of 2 years warranty on the product you originally purchased, your replacement has no warranty left. Is this how they proceed with replacements?- Val D.

OK, this is what I would do, with simple explanations: Step 1: a) Put the switch in the guest house, connect all LAN cables for devices on your network - the one from your house, cables for the cameras, etc. b) Turn the switch ON ans test if everything looks good from your house. I personally would run stock Asuswrt version 45717. It has pretty stable WiFi drivers. You don't need any Asuswrt-Merlin functions. He was reviewing DIY firewall in 2016. The hardware he used is not ideal, the OS he used is many versions behind current builds. -

The example above is for fun, of course. If it was a real situation though, a new firewall route is highly recommended. Even the most fancy boxes come much cheaper than wife upgrade. After wife upgrade, one may not be able to afford a second-hand Wireless-G router off eBay. :) -

Where the fear of IP leaks is coming from? Your Mullvad VPN is Sweden based, one of the countries in 14 Eyes surveillance agreement. If some authority really wants to know who you are, they will. All commercial VPN services claim no logs policy. Are you sure?
