    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

I don't intend on connecting it to the WANs until I've fully configured everything within pfSense while the device is off the network. I'll hook it up to a display and go through setup until it's all set. I've worked with a variety of Linux distro's over the years, but don't have any prior...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Scrolled down and found it...ordered up the memory and SSD. Looking forward to setting up/configuring. I'll leave the ER605 in place for the next few days...will see if Verizon is possibly throttling temporarily. Anything's possible.

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

That's possible...I'm not aware of any special MTU requirements. I always leave MTU at default, 1500. Never used any special custom settings on the ASUS either. I'm still leaning toward a custom x86 box running pfSense, since I like to tinker. I'm leaning toward this guy, but I'm not 100% sure...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Here's another test where I observed my wired laptop sending at over 800Mbps... Was going through random speed test servers within NYS that I normally don't test. Speed test servers are definitely not reliable. The perplexing issue is that the speedtest server I test from routinely (which is...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Yes. ER605 was the main router. All other speedtest.net servers however show much slower upstream speeds, 200-300mbps. Testing from same wired laptop, going through ER605 as the main router.

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

The confusion continues...Verizon's own speedtest page indicates I'm getting full upstream/downstream... I saw my wired laptop hit 800-900mpbs for "send" within Win 11's Taskmgr, at least briefly during the upload test.

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Probably a dumb question, but is setting up load balancing on these x86 boxes feasible? I'd presume 3x2.5Gbe ports would be a minimum...I've noticed most of these boxes come with at least 4 ports. With the 2.5Gbe ports these boxes should be capable of reaching speeds beyond 2Gbps over the...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

And this is exactly where I've been looking...running a pfSense device on x86 hardware. Netgate appears to make such a product, but it's a bit out of my price range. Thanks for all the informative responses. The irony (based on the thread you linked just above) is that my ASUS GT-AC5300 has...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Interesting, and does seem to be similar. Unfortunately TPL hasn't released a firmware update for the ER605 since March 2022, not sure if or when they'll release another update, if they get the Fios issue figured out. They have a ticket open for my issue, but they're taking the same approach as...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Are there any Omada-capable SDN routers that can at least handle 1Gb symmetrical WAN? Or there are none (from TPL) because their firmware doesn't play well with Fios... I do agree that in most cases the ER605 has a great price/performance ratio for what it can handle.

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

So after a week of using the ER605 as my primary router, I don't think it's going to fit the bill...I hope this summary will help other forum members decide on whether or not the ER605 is for them... My opinion of this router is for the v2 model, the one with the USB port in front, as shown...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

I have an open ticket with TPL on this issue...they're testing my config (which is about as basic as it gets) and they're suspecting a hardware issue. I think it's firmware or Omada-related, but we shall see. All I know is the ASUS router was getting over 900Mbps up and down consistently on my...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

I've disabled app optimized routing and have limited the router (hopefully) to failover only. I also noticed that the load balancer almost always seemed to send upstream traffic out the slower cable connection for some odd reason, vs sending upstream out over Fios. I know you can set up load...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

That may be the key...I'll test later today with load balancing off, I've read it causes slow-downs more so than anything else.

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

I haven't been able to find a setting for hardware offloading within Omada 5.7.4 (I did some searching last night as well), so not sure if that's a default setting somewhere or they removed it from Omada for whatever reason. It's no longer in Advanced Settings...(just wifi settings there now)...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

One question regarding the performance of the ER605...I've noticed on routine speed tests that my upload rate appears to max out at around 250mbps on a 1Gb/1Gb Fios connection. When my ASUS GT-AC5300 was the main router, I'd get pretty consistent speed tests up/down of over 900Mbps. The ER605...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

That'll definitely be the route I take in the near future. I do have a TL-SG1024DE managed switch that everything wired in the house routes through, fully VLAN capable (but not Omada or PoE capable unfortunately). I've liked ASUS for the Wifi coverage...I have 4 AX92U mesh nodes scattered around...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Managed to find an ER-605 locally, got it set up and running this AM and so far so good. I ended up installing the Omada controller software onto one of my light-weight Win 11 PC's that is up and running 24x7, wasn't terribly difficult to install and configure. Once I saw all of the features...

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

Thanks for all the tips - I ordered up an ER605. Will go the double-NAT option, although I almost want to take away DHCP/Manual IP assignment from the GT-AC5300 as the firmware is flaky whenever those settings are changed. The GT-AC5300 reboots after every d@mn change to the manual IP assignment...
