ASUS Republic of Games RAPTURE GT-AC5300

I'm in the web GUI quite often...usually to check out the traffic analyzer graphs, memory usage on the router, look at how devices are distributed out between the AiMesh nodes. Easy to do a quick general health check from the web UI. Sometimes I'll change 2.4Ghz channels depending on how some of...

ASUS Republic of Games RAPTURE GT-AC5300

I went out of town last week and the frozen/crashed web admin UI reared its ugly head again. Several days after flashing the new firmware (and factory resetting), the web admin UI decided to randomly hang up, so I wasn't able to login to my router until I returned home to power everything off...

    Asus Auto Update Experiences

Seems that most (if not all) ASUS routers have an option to disable auto-update, and I haven't noticed ASUS enabling auto-update by default in any of their firmware updates, that's after factory resetting post-update. I do think it's a useful feature for a majority of the user base who are not...

ASUS Republic of Games RAPTURE GT-AC5300

What type of VPN connection are you using through your GT-AC5300? I personally use a Cisco AnyConnect split tunnel VPN which seems to be working without any issues. Did restarting the router fix your VPN problems, configuration adjustments, or did you end up factory resetting? I'm using the...

ASUS Republic of Games RAPTURE GT-AC5300

Finally...UI performance seems vastly improved. Overall memory utilization is also lower compared to previous firmware versions for the GT-AC5300. Long overdue. Can't comment on stability as I've only been running the new firmware for a few hours (since this AM). Time will tell if the UI...

ASUS Republic of Games RAPTURE GT-AC5300

I agree there are definitely stability issues with the GT-AC5300 firmware...the stable from May 2021 is no better than the beta in terms of AiMesh reliability. Depending on what you're using for AiMesh nodes and how many you have, you'll probably run into the web admin UI crash issue at some...

ASUS Republic of Games RAPTURE GT-AC5300

There's a beta release floating around out there for the GT-AC5300, 9.0.0.4.386_43576-g649d261. This firmware release fixed issues users were having running Pi-hole DNS servers on their LAN's. Otherwise no new official firmware for the GT-AC5300 since May 2021, which is disappointing considering...

ASUS WRT - how to properly restart the web/httpd admin UI (GT-AC5300 Router)?

I finally resolved the web admin UI issues with the GT-AC5300 (as the main router)...got rid of my 4 RT-AC68U mesh nodes and replaced them with RT-AX92U's instead. Problem gone immediately. Router restarts after config changes without the web UI crashing, and no more random web UI crashes after...

RT-AC68U as AiMesh node cuts half LAN speed

The 68U definitely has throughput issues on the latest firmware releases, I can confirm this behavior as well. Bandwidth seems capped at 450-480Mbps for any WIRED clients connected directly to the 68U when it is set up as an AiMesh node.

Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.45987

^ That's the typical response I get from ASUS. Factory reset (even if you make it clear you've already done so), and if your device is within warranty, they'll offer to RMA it, another hassle in and of itself, considering it may take several weeks or longer to go through the RMA process. If...

Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.45987

I've reported this issue to ASUS - I am running 4 of these RT-AC68U routers as AiMesh nodes, but only have ONE of them directly connected to a wired device (Windows laptop), so the problem is more or less not noticeable on the other 3 devices since they're used for wireless clients only. I can...

Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.45987

Flashed my 4 RT-AC68U AiMesh nodes this morning...can't comment on the DDNS issues since I don't use these as primary routers. No issues so far as AiMesh nodes connected to a GT-AC5300 as the main router.

    CVE-2021-44228 - Log4j RCE 0-day

I believe you're referring to the lsass "Sasser" worm, going back to the Win XP era...that was a particularly bad security flaw.

    CVE-2021-44228 - Log4j RCE 0-day

The Log4j vulnerability is definitely not the "worst threat to modern computing" in history. It's relatively easy to mitigate, pending that there isn't a lot of dependence on older versions of Java. If you can't patch, just disable remote control until a patch can be rolled out.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-2 public beta

You can't use an internal LAN-based DNS server (like pi-hole) for your router's WAN DNS, which is your gateway out to the Internet. Point your RT-AX92U's WAN DNS at Google, Cloudflare, or any DNS server IP that is publicly accessible, otherwise you'll run into all sorts of problems. Configure...

ASUS WRT - how to properly restart the web/httpd admin UI (GT-AC5300 Router)?

I've posted a screenshot...nothing too exciting with RAM or CPU utilization, and I do use AiProtection as well as enabling the Traffic Analyzer (it has been at least a week since I've rebooted any of the AiMesh nodes or the main router)... I've never used the USB disk feature...sounds like it...

ASUS WRT - how to properly restart the web/httpd admin UI (GT-AC5300 Router)?

SSH login works fine when the website hangs...which logs would you recommend checking (and file paths if you know them) for the most useful info on what's happening? When the website hangs up, the router is also inaccessible to the ASUS Router app (android/iOS), but it does remain accessible via...

ASUS WRT - how to properly restart the web/httpd admin UI (GT-AC5300 Router)?

That's definitely perplexing...I've never seen my GT-AC5300 (which is my main router) exceed 55-60% RAM utilization, but I'd still encounter the UI crash issue quite regularly, sometimes just minutes or hours after power cycling everything on the network. My power-on procedure was very similar...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-1 public beta

Try deleting your 68U (do this with all 4 - delete them all, then hard reset and re-add them one by one) from your AiMesh network via your main router's web admin UI (which will initiate a reset on the 68U), then hard reset it after it reboots using the WPS button method. Latch onto the...
