Recommended config for 160 MHz with WiFi 6 and AX88U

Sure, there are non-160 MHz clients on the network. Hard to say if a specific device caused an issue at 2am. I’ll have to see if something triggers the issue, but now I switched to a fixed channel I’m using a laptop now with an Intel AC wifi adapter and no issues for hours with audio, video...

Recommended config for 160 MHz with WiFi 6 and AX88U

I just upgraded to the latest stock Asus firmware, have a 2GB pipe to my cable modem via WAN aggregation, and now I can realize my full Internet bandwidth with 802.11ax. With my Comcast gigabit DOCSIS connection, I'm getting the fully provisioned 1.2Gbps to my WiFi 6 clients. Currently, I have...

    Deciphering the event logs

The logs aren’t, but the info and documentation is available to help people figure it out. One thing about Microsoft is everything is documented.

    WPA2-Personal vs WPA2/WPA3 Personal

Is it worth using it in practicality, or just stick with WPA2-Personal? Any known issues associated with WPA3/WPA2?

    WPA2-Personal vs WPA2/WPA3 Personal

Been searching and trying to find clarity around those two network security settings. I have mostly modern devices with OS's that support WPA3, but some older devices and IOT devices that may/do not. Does the WPA2/WPA3 Personal in the Asuswrt wireless settings provide WPA3 for devices that...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

This security flaw isn’t present in the stock Asus firmware, correct? Only the Merlin builds?

    Release New AX88U Firmware v3.0.0.4.386.41700

One thing I'm seeing with this firmware that I have not seen before with the Asuswrt-Merlin builds....MAC addresses in the log that I don't recognize, that look like they're connecting or trying to connect. Anyone know exactly what this means? A concern or just noise in the log? They happen...

    Release New AX88U Firmware v3.0.0.4.386.41700

I updated my router this morning and did a full reset but see that in the log as well. I do not have any AIMesh nodes or clients enabled. Just the router in AP mode. Otherwise everything seems ok. Power on 2.4GHz band is better.

    Release New AX88U Firmware v3.0.0.4.386.41700

So what’s the overall verdict on this firmware? Thumbs up or down? I use Merlin now, but I don’t use a majority of the features. I use the wireless networks and that’s about it. I just want stable and well performing wifi functionality. Don’t need VPN or QOS or a host of other features. Merlin...

    AX88U channel bandwidth setting

    So will the 20/40/80 setting.

    AX88U channel bandwidth setting

you saying shift all the devices to the 5GHz network? I can’t imagine any of the clients on the 5GHz now would have any issues. They’re all modern devices. I just wasn’t sure what the technical difference was between the settings. Sounds like “80 MHz” is the preferred one.

    AX88U channel bandwidth setting

Comcast gigabit. Mix of AC, AX devices and mix of phones (that are connected to the 2.4 GHz) and media devices and laptops that need higher download speed that are on the 5GHz.

    AX88U channel bandwidth setting

Can anyone please explain what the difference is between 20/40/80 MHz and setting to 80 MHz? Wireless mode is set to “Auto” for the 5 GHz network, and all of the devices are WiFi 5 or 6 capable. So is there really any practical difference between the 2 channel bandwidth settings? Is one...

AX88U "protocol 0000 is buggy" error over and over

Not using any guest networks. I changed the logging level and don’t see it anymore. Out of sight, out of mind I guess if it’s working, I’ll ignore the error. I’m not a Linux guy, so was hoping someone may know more detail, but doesn’t look like it.

AX88U "protocol 0000 is buggy" error over and over

AX88U running 384.19. Enabled WAN aggregation today and that seems to be working fine. Have a 2GB bonded connection to my modem and performance is fine. Issue is now I see the following error over and over in the system log: "kernel: protocol 0000 is buggy, dev eth1" What is this?????

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

So is it recommended to upgrade to Beta 4 if you have an AX88U or are these throughput issues a bug?

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

I have not updated my AX88U from 384.19 to the beta yet. Was considering updating to 386.1 beta 4 but wanted to confirm with others using the same router. Any issues? I have hardware rev A1.1 (made in Vietnam), so not sure if that makes any difference to the heat issues folks with other routers...

Looks like I replied to that thread originally and indicated I had a rev1.1, so that was very helpful. Thanks.
