    AX86U to replace AX88U

    Is that a stupid move? Not enough reason to spend $270 with tax to upgrade? The main reason is for the 2.5Gb WAN port to connect to the Arris S33 cable modem 2.5Gb port. My connection from my ISP is 1.2Gbps and May increase to 2Gbps later in the year.

    I had the WAN port showing red on mine as well. I think this build is just a bad one.

    Upgraded to this firmware using the auto update function. It corrupted something. When the router rebooted, it took me to the setup screen and made me go through the setup GUI before it would show me the admin console. Some settings were still as set. Others went back to default.

    Not sure if it’s placebo effect, but this firmware seems to have better WiFi stability and consistency. Throughput is good with less variance. I’m not seeing wild swings in throughput like the previous firmware seemed to have. Again…maybe it’s coincidence with my ISP.

    Yes. Works fine for me using Edge on my iPhone or Windows 11.

    Updated via dirty flash from the router GUI, and been running for 24 hours with no issues.

    Maybe in combination with a specific configuration or devices. I’m not having a single issue. My own cell phone (one of several devices) is connected to the 2.4 GHz network and has been rock solid.

    Is there a known issue? I have cell phones, a thermostat, and AV equipment using the 2.4GHz band and so far haven’t noticed an issue.

    Nope, no drops. Just some reduced wifi 6 throughput, which may actually be the Windows 11 beta networking rather than the router.

    Can I ask what may be a stupid question? Why do you need (why would you want) to encrypt DNS traffic? It’s all public data. Is there a known exploit or other reason why you’d want that overhead?

    It’s off on my router as well. My understanding is you only need it when you want devices to connect to multiple bands or APs based on signal.

    Just did a dirty flash to 42820 from 42819. So far all seems well. Could just be coincidence, but one thing I noticed is my throughput to the Internet measured by Comcast’s Speedtest tool is better, and more importantly is more consistent. Again, could be maintenance on Comcast’s plant or...

    What kinds of IOT devices are you folks having issues with on 42819? I haven’t seen any so far, but maybe I just don’t have the devices causing issues.

    I do as a matter of normal use. My WiFi 6 devices use the 5 GHz band which is set to 160 MHz. I get >940Mbps routinely.
