Tutorial How to use VLANs on your non-pro Asus router with 386 or 388 code (no scripting required)

Thanks. Is there any chance that the VLAN support from the Pro could be adapted by Merlin to the non-Pro AX86U Merlin firmware?

Tutorial How to use VLANs on your non-pro Asus router with 386 or 388 code (no scripting required)

Thanks so much for this detailed tutorial! I want to do something similar with my AX86U, which is to set up a second subnet without DHCP where I manually put certain devices by assigning them IPs in that subnet (this will include wired devices). That subnet will then have its own WAN by...

Want to set up dual WAN with assigned clients to each WAN, but if one WAN fails, all can use the other.

Another question, instead of splitting up the main subnet, would it be possible to have two subnets - one for each WAN - where clients in one cannot see clients in the other, but they can all see each other within the subnets and can all see the router. One can have DHCP for anyone with a WiFi...

AX86U - can it do higher than 1492 MTU with PPPoE? (ISP supports it)

So I have VDSL as one of my WANs on my AX86U and I noticed that the router cannot be set to higher than 1492 MTU in the PPPoE WAN setting. I try to set it to 1500, but I get a message in the GUI that 1492 is the max. I tried to set it to 1500 through SSH, but it doesn't actually do anything and...

Want to set up dual WAN with assigned clients to each WAN, but if one WAN fails, all can use the other.

By the way, I'm curious is it possible to have QoS/Bandwidth limiting on just one WAN and not the other? One will be a VDSL2 that needs limiting to avoid ping spikes, it's a real problem with that connection. But the other will be gigabit FTTP and if I enable QoS, HW acceleration will turn off...

Want to set up dual WAN with assigned clients to each WAN, but if one WAN fails, all can use the other.

Thanks for the explanation! I am getting the second WAN in about 10 days, then will test and report back. And thanks for confirming your results. I'm surprised it took this long, in a standard failover setting configured to check every 5 seconds it takes 5-10 seconds to switch to the secondary...

Want to set up dual WAN with assigned clients to each WAN, but if one WAN fails, all can use the other.

Thanks so much for the instructions, I will try this. So just to clarify, this *is* what I was asking for, just the labels are reversed from what I typed, but the functionality is what I asked for, correct? I.e. if the WAN that serves all but one clients goes down, then the WAN that serves the...

Want to set up dual WAN with assigned clients to each WAN, but if one WAN fails, all can use the other.

The title pretty much says it all. I want to set up dual WAN where WAN 1 is available exclusively to one client, and all other clients use WAN 2. My router is the AX86U. This can be done as described here...

    4G USB Dongle for RT-AC86U

Hi, I found this thread because I'm looking for a decent 4G USB dongle. The ZTE MF733U1 that you're using seems to be one of the most popular choices. There's another popular one that's slightly more expensive which is the ZTE MF79N, and I can't figure out what the difference between them is...

Asus RT-AX86U error: acs_start eth7 cannot select chanspec with the wrong info

I have the exact same issue, getting this error every few seconds: Aug 20 13:44:33 acsd: eth7: Selecting 5g band ACS policy Aug 20 13:44:33 acsd: acs_init_run(1111): acs_start eth7 cannot select chanspec with the wrong info It's entirely related to AiMesh. I have an AX86U as my main router and...

AX86U weird glitch - bumps me to 2.4G network when I look at client list

Something weird started happening, whenever I look at the client list, either by clicking on "View List" or on "Clients" on the Network Map page, the router bumps me to the 2.4G network for a couple of minutes, then puts me back on 5G. This started happening roughly when I replaced my AC66U...

What happens if I turn off Network Monitoring?

Ok, I see. But I'm pretty sure they're the same setting, because if I change it in one place, it changes in the other place too. So with dual WAN it helps detect automatic failover, and without dual WAN it's just so you see on the Network Map page if your internet is down? I'll turn it off...

What happens if I turn off Network Monitoring?

But I don't even have Dual WAN enabled. So then what would be the use of having Network Monitoring enabled (either checked), I'm curious.

ZenWiFi XT8 as AiMesh node - how to select 5GHz-1 channel?

Thanks for the reply. I have those options too, but with a dual-band router as main and tri-band as node, they are glitchy. If I turn off 5 GHz-1, then both 5 GHz bands turn off after about a minute. If I turn it back on, then both turn on. Most of the time. But if I try to only turn off 5 GHz-2...

What happens if I turn off Network Monitoring?

So there is the Network Monitoring setting, accessible in the Dual WAN menu as well as the Administration -> System menu - and they appear to be the same setting. My question is, if I turn off both ping and DNS query, what will that do? What's the function of this setting? Is it only to...

ZenWiFi XT8 as AiMesh node - how to select 5GHz-1 channel?

Right, makes sense. I can't even select band with SC turned on. Do you have the option to turn off 5GHz-1 on the nodes and only use the backhaul as fronthaul? By default, does it use both and just decide which band to put clients on based on capacity? The thing is, with XT8s, the backhaul will...

AX86U: Traffic Analyzer not logging any VPN traffic

I have an AX86U and if I use a VPN, Traffic Analyzer does not log any traffic from my PC. Of course it wouldn't be able to see individual type of usage, but it should at least register the data usage. In Traffic Monitor I can see it, but not under the "Statistic" tab. Is this normal? Any way I...

ZenWiFi XT8 as AiMesh node - how to select 5GHz-1 channel?

I think so, without AiMesh or Roaming Assistant, I think dumber clients will just hold onto the current AP until signal is too weak and they disconnect. And I think Roaming Assistant just forces a disconnect at a certain RSSI. For me AiMesh + Smart Connect (without Roaming Assistant) works well...

AiMesh AX86U main + one XT8. Should I enable Roaming Assistant?

Right, regarding Smart Connect, that's a feature I'd like to keep, to encourage clients to change band if they need to. Roaming Assistant isn't directly related to that, however I've read that if you don't have Roaming Assistant enabled, roaming can break if you disable Smart Connect... Even if...
