Without QoS enabled, how does my RT-AX86U allocate bandwidth?

Oh I see. So in practice what is the end result? If you have one client trying to download a video game at max speed, and you have 2 others trying to stream YouTube and 2 others trying to browse, then you have 4 clients requesting packets, but at very different rates, how will the split work out...

Without QoS enabled, how does my RT-AX86U allocate bandwidth?

But doesn't that imply that if I max out the connection then no one else can do anything? Right now without QoS, if I run a speed test on one device, and then 3 seconds later run a speed test on another device, the speed of the first one gradually drops off to about half and they end up sharing...

Without QoS enabled, how does my RT-AX86U allocate bandwidth?

Noob question here. I have an Asus RT-AX86U router, very happy with it, there are about 10-15 clients at any time that the router is serving, all wireless except for 2 wired. I haven't felt a need to enable QoS, even though my internet is not super fast (125 down/20 up). The router seems to do...

Is there an app that can notify you if the Wi-Fi channel changes?

Weirdly no, I can never find any mention of the channel change in the log. I think I'll put a request in the Asus app. In Windows command prompt, I can use a command line that tells me the channel (even if I'm not connected to Wi-Fi), maybe I can set up some kind of a script in Windows that...

Is there an app that can notify you if the Wi-Fi channel changes?

My RT-AX86U a few times a year will switch from its DFS channel to channel 36, I am fairly certain it's a false positive because it only happens once every 3-4 months. Unfortunately the router doesn't offer the option to automatically switch back after a certain period of time, which is...

Difference between selecting 160 and 20/40/80/160 as channel width?

Ohh I see, so it is variable max bandwidth. I thought it meant you couldn't connect to the network at any other channel width. Mine has been set to 20/40/80 and it's never switched from 80, but I am using a completely clear DFS channel. I wonder if it would occasionally switch to 40 or even 20...

Difference between selecting 160 and 20/40/80/160 as channel width?

So what's the point then, if both settings effectively do 20/40/80/160. Is it a glitch?

Difference between selecting 160 and 20/40/80/160 as channel width?

What is the difference? It seems that 20, 40 and 80 MHz clients can still connect even if strictly 160 is selected. It doesn't seem to make a difference. Maybe it's placebo but it seems there is a very slight speed bump and improvement in performance and stability if only 160 is selected vs...

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

Oh yeah, just looked it up and in Canada 120-128 are not available for WLAN at all. So if you have a Canadian bought unit (I'm assuming you're not actually in Canada) and changing the region is not possible then you're out of luck. :( I would still use 80 MHz at 100 than 160 MHz at 36-64 unless...

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

Do you have AI Mesh? That was the problem for me. I had to reboot the whole AIMesh system, and before the nodes could reconnect, it gave me the option to use channels 120-128, so I could add 160 MHz on Channel 100. Then after the nodes had reconnected it no longer gave me the option and it...

AX86U - DFS Channels cleared in wireless log - but can not select in Wireless settings - Help

I don't think AX86U has site survey on stock firmware, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

AX86U: 160MHz at channel 100, no longer available? (UK unit)

Okay I figured it out... The issue was AI Mesh. I have two older 802.11ac nodes. I rebooted the entire system through the AI Mesh menu (not just the main router). Then what happened was, the AX86U rebooted faster than the nodes and for a couple of minutes it was the only router in the system...

AX86U: 160MHz at channel 100, no longer available? (UK unit)

Yes, because I figured out that the issue was I couldn't see channels 120-128 at all, regardless of what channel width I selected.

AX86U: 160MHz at channel 100, no longer available? (UK unit)

I tried it every which way, including selecting Auto first, rebooting, setting up a new network, etc. Channels 120-128 don't show up as an option for any channel width. But it seems highly unlikely that they disabled the channels with a firmware update, why would they do that... Also, I can see...

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

Replying to an old thread, but did you figure it out? I have a UK-bought AX86U and about 6 months ago I tested a 160 MHz channel in the 100+ DFS range. You have to wait 10 minutes due to a CAC requirement in Europe for channels 120-128, but it did work just fine. However, I just went to try it...

AX86U: 160MHz at channel 100, no longer available? (UK unit)

So this is weird. I used to be able to select channel 100 for a 160 MHz channel on my UK-bought AX86U. I had to wait 10 minutes due to the CAC requirement, but it worked. Now for some reason it's no longer available, it's been several months since I last tried it. It only lets me select the...

Any way to get 5ghz channels 149+ on UK bought Asus routers?

Sorry for replying to a 3-month old thread, but I think the reality is that router manufacturers usually follow EU rules for products sold in the UK. It's not worth it for them to create a separate SKU for Britain, plus the vast majority of the time Ofcom follows EU rules even after Brexit. You...

RT-AX86U Any way to set up a separate WLAN/subnet (not guest)?

I see, thanks! That link is broken by the way.

RT-AX86U Any way to set up a separate WLAN/subnet (not guest)?

I would like to set up a separate WLAN on the same 5 GHz radio/channel as the main network, where the clients can see each other and can access the router, but they cannot see anyone from the main network and vice versa. So basically a guest network, except the clients can see each other (but...
