How can you tell if an AIMesh node is connected to the main router or another node (without using the app)?

It's an RT-AX86U with latest firmware 3.0.0.4.384_9318, and the nodes are RT-AC68Us

AIMesh node icons changed from router-specific to generic ones for some reason...?

This is a very minor thing, but I was tweaking some settings and suddenly my AIMesh nodes' icons changed from pictures of the actual routers, to these generic ones. It seems to be purely cosmetic, everything still works, but I'm wondering what triggered that and if anyone else has seen this. Any...

How can you tell if an AIMesh node is connected to the main router or another node (without using the app)?

I don't have an AIMesh tab on the left, only the button that's on the main screen in the center section.

GUI extremely slow when accessed via faraway WAN/DDNS

But have you tried it from a distant location with 70-80 ms of latency e.g. another continent or a location 4000 mi away or so? Or a crappy mobile connection with 60+ ms of latency? It's not about bandwidth, it's the latency that kills it for some reason.

How can you tell if an AIMesh node is connected to the main router or another node (without using the app)?

I know that the Asus Router App shows this, but I'd rather not use it. I don't like the idea of having 2 different UIs for configuring my router, I want to keep it WebUI only. So is there a way to verify that a node is not connected to another node from the WebUI? Please let me know.

GUI extremely slow when accessed via faraway WAN/DDNS

Hm okay, I will try a VPN then. Edit: Tried an OpenVPN server and connected through my mobile connection, which has about 70 ms ping. Same thing... painfully slow. I guess the Asus GUI just can't handle latency. The internet works fine through the VPN (if I enable internet access), but the...

GUI extremely slow when accessed via faraway WAN/DDNS

Hello, I'm having an issue with remote accessing my RT-AX86U from a faraway location. By faraway I mean a location that introduces 80+ ms of latency to the remote access. Here's the situation. I'd like to be able to access my router when I travel and/or use a VPN server. So I set up WAN access...

Can I see the PHY link rate of AIMesh nodes anywhere?

Great, thank you! I confirmed good connections. Question, which PHY value gets hut by 50% if a client is connected to a node? Do I need to be looking at Tx for the node and dividing that by two? It's already theoretical speed, so am I correct in thinking I need to divide it by 2 to get real...

Can I see the PHY link rate of AIMesh nodes anywhere?

I just want to makes sure that all 3 antennas of my AC68U are connected to 3 of my main AX86U router's antennas and the PHY link rate is what is should be (around a gigabit with an 80 MHz channel). In the app you can see RSSI and PHY link rate of clients, but for nodes it only shows RSSI. Can I...

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

No worries. I see it's not available in the stable builds, there is an experimental "repeater" build, but I'm not too keen on trying that. I guess I'll try to sell this router while it still catches a decent price and look for an RT-AC66U B1. They're not much more expensive on the second hand...

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

So I installed the GNUton Merlin fork and I still don't see the option to enable repeater mode or the other operation modes. Did I miss it? That's really what I wanted to accomplish here, I don't care about the other features of Merlin.

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

Hmm okay, I'll try it right now, can't hurt. I'm just always a little skeptical of forks, they're not as "official", and when it's one guy working on it, it's all dependent on him. If he gets tired of it, that's it. But I guess I just need it to work, and beyond that I can just get an RT- router.

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

It need it to function as a repeater though, the other options aren't viable. I won't be impacted by the bandwidth penalty of repeating a Wi-Fi signal because the connection to the main router is a 3x3 80MHz on an interference-free channel and the internet plan is 100 mbps, so I still get the...

Does Smart Connect functionality extend to AIMesh nodes that don't support it?

I meant the nodes, sorry. And yes, disabling Smart Connect on the main router is probably a good idea if you have nodes that don't support it, but infeasible in my case, I need to keep it all on the same SSID.

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

Hm no, not too crazy about that idea, I wanna stay on mainstream stuff. Apparently there was a secret link "http://192.168.1.1/Advanced_OperationMode_Content.asp" that used to grant access to the operation modes menu, but it was eliminated in recent firmware versions. Maybe I can roll back the...

Does Smart Connect functionality extend to AIMesh nodes that don't support it?

I see thanks. So for routers that don't support Smart Connect, AI Mesh basically sets them up as repeaters with the same SSID for both bands. Okay.

Does Smart Connect functionality extend to AIMesh nodes that don't support it?

Ok cool, I wanted to avoid using the app because I don't like 2 different ways of controlling the router conflicting with each other. But I did install it and can confirm they're both connected to the main router, phew.

Any plans to enable repeater mode on DSL-AC68U via official or 3rd party firmware?

So I got a DSL-AC68U and currently using it as an AIMesh node. But in the future, I might need to set it up as a repeater (non-AIMesh). The issue is, the router doesn't have that option for some reason. The Operation Mode tab is missing completely. I guess they figured very few people would use...

RT-AC66U B1 vs DSL-AC68U as an AIMesh node?

Thank you for the input, I ended up keeping both and using them as AIMesh nodes... 1 more node couldn't hurt.
