Can only access a website by direct connection to router. Not through switch

By chance are you using a smart switch which has DHCP on and it is grabbing an outside IP, one of your statics? Try setting the switch up with a private IP address in a network that you are not using. You should be able to access the switch as long as it is not a network inside one of the...

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

So, I was reading today about Skynet and unbound hitting China's Authoritative servers even though China is blocked. It got me thinking. If I am running unbound on Pfsense I guess the same thing will happen? Even if I am running Pfblocker? It might be better to run Forwarding so China will...

External antennas on the likes of AC86U, is that the magic for range?

It shows as a much higher cost using google looking at Amazon than my last Cisco 150ax AP I bought, like more than twice the price. And it makes less sense with the more expensive ASUS routers. Costs have gone crazy on little routers. I would not buy them. I don't see other people justify it...

Lots of 2.4Ghz IoTs, will a 3x3 be better than 2x2?

Nobody seems to publish this info. Cisco does.

    Apple Wi-Fi updated and MU-MIMO

The specs look good but you know me, I am going to run Cisco. I never seem to have issues bad enough to bother me.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

So, we have a friend over that is using google cloud and running a VPN to a client working. They lost power in the big storm we had a few days ago so they are here working. Pfsense seems to be working well. The only thing I noticed is we are 2% higher on CPU usage on my i3.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

I would think Pfsense would be easier to setup than a bunch of scripts for ASUS. Most all setup for Pfsense is under the GUI. Yes, there is a lot there but easier than scripts and interactions with multiple scripts.

External antennas on the likes of AC86U, is that the magic for range?

Yes, you say that now but then you recommend high dollar routers.

External antennas on the likes of AC86U, is that the magic for range?

Buying multiple APs will be cheaper than buying multiple routers.

Fios, AXE11000 2 pack, TP link switch, and do I need vlan iptv?

You are matching the VLAN not the switch IP. All a switch IP is to identify a switch for access not VLANs.

External antennas on the likes of AC86U, is that the magic for range?

Multi-APs will always beat a single one.

Lots of 2.4Ghz IoTs, will a 3x3 be better than 2x2?

I say backbone with 10 gig and use 1 gig for clients until the heat issues with 10 gig gets better. I think you will have a better overall business network solution. The network is for all devices overall, not testing just 1. But everybody do their own.

    Switching from Asus AIMesh

Cisco switches are nice as they track the POE power usage and report it on the GUI if it is a small business switch.

Fios, AXE11000 2 pack, TP link switch, and do I need vlan iptv?

Yes, the VLAN for the IPTV is on the WAN side coming from your ISP. You need to match the VLAN on the WAN side with a pass through into your network.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

I did not know ASUS did VLANs. Sounds like in AP mode it can do 7 VLANs which will probably work for home. How about roaming? Do they support fast transition if you run more than 1 AP?

    Apple Wi-Fi updated and MU-MIMO

Aruba specs look good. It should be a nice AP with good roaming.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

So, using Pfsense as your router and ASUS as a wireless AP will limit you to 1 network. A small business wireless AP will allow you to have a lot of network VLANs probably depending on the brand and coding in the wireless APs. I would assume the better brands will support more VLANs.

Lots of 2.4Ghz IoTs, will a 3x3 be better than 2x2?

Personally, I think it is too early for 2.5 gig connections. You don't gain that much over 1 gig connections with our current internet connections. Maybe in a small business. Some of the first Cisco small business switches supported 5 gig connections as I remember but they were not big...

    Switching from Asus AIMesh

How are you powering your APs? What brand of switch are you using? Are they using POE or POE+ or POE++?

News SSID Confusion attack, tracked as CVE-2023-52424

So, you left out WPA2. Is it not affected? So, I guess it is better to run both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on the same SSID if you want roaming?
