How to lock home device to 2.4GHz never 5GHz

If you use Smart Connect and want to stay with it (when you get it working right, there's nothing better), then maybe look at the SC rules and signal levels. Watch and Analyze the Wireless log and see what signal levels and rates they negotiate... you might find they are weak or negotiate a...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

I took the plunge. In place upgrade from 384_19 to 386_1 beta4b. Like most, I saw the buggy protocol message for my Guest network, so I moved it over to Guest #2 and that went away. My 2x RT-AC86U AI Mesh and SmartConnect setup seems quite happy. I DONT use Diversion or Skynet but I do have...

    Skynet outlook.live.com times out

FWIW, I had a 'bang your head' moment that lasted a while that was a result of a change I was testing. While not Skynet related, I set a few of my clients, through DHCP reservations and an alternate DNS Server - to 'AdGuard' DNS servers. It was to try and filter out some of the commercials...

RT-AC86U WAN Aggregation support in Merlin

Never seen it on either of my AC86U. Last m&m redo was 384_15. Still on _19 for a few more days. This weekend gets 386 whatever state it’s in.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

FWIW, I spent countless hours over the years tweaking and testing and reverting QOS settings, Trying the QOS addons, things acting wonky, random reasons why HW acceleration would show off (or on) when it shouldn't be based on what I know and what settings were in place. At the time my cable...

Frontier claims their router is better than most (Including my AX88U)

Lately its been my experience that QOS causes more headaches than it solves for MOST people with anything over say 200/10. I'm at 650/20 now and have my order in for 1g/1g fiber service. I threw in the towel about a year ago, shut it off and never looked back. Even when something is...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Assuming most or all of your IoT devices are on 2.4Ghz, make sure 1) Fixed channel and Fixed width of 20MHz 2) Airtime Fairness is disabled 3) Universal Beamforming is disabled These recommendations have been the baseline for sometime and probably hold true regardless of the major new version.

Keep printer on usb(2.0) alive with merlin

@itpp20 Are you sure its when the printer goes into sleep? Consider this might be bad timing, since, IIRC USB ports have power savings parameters too (on the router). Check / watch the kernel ring buffer (dmesg) or tail /tmp/syslog.log . If, at the moment your printer goes to sleep you see...

    Entware Entware Mystery

Thanks @thelonelycoder this is what I needed, and working backwards I realized the source of the issues. *Self-Inflicted* In summary, I had tried diversion some time back. For reasons outside this reply, I removed it. In removing it, I also (IIRC) found some cleanup steps, including the...

    Entware Entware Mystery

As I mentioned above, this is the 2nd time I've wiped and started over. So now im interested in learning more about how things work. That will help me longer term. So, question again.... how does entware startup? I see rc.unslung is executed in /jffs/scripts but that assume...

    Entware Entware Mystery

Drive is fine. Checked OK. I thought this might be the reason last time, so I used a new drive. Since it happened again, now Im looking to dig deeper.

    Entware Entware Mystery

Thanks for the replies. I still am looking to understand the under the hood startup sequence and what and where entware is first started. (like the symlink I mentioned)

    Entware Entware Mystery

Yea, I knew that - so clarification - i used 'ep' and that's what reinstalled entware.

    Entware Entware Mystery

This is now the 2nd time this has happened. Setup - 2x RT-AC86U in AI Mesh. Scribe, ScribeUI, scMerlin and connmon are the only addons running. I don't stare at my logs all day, but I did log in to check today and noticed by uptime was only 1ish days... and scribe and scribeUI was not...

FlexQoS QoS does not handle youtube upload

TBH, you are also running the first beta of a new, major version change. The addons are specifically the items which need testing & debugging and the ones likely to be broken. You should first verify the problem also exists with 384_19.

connmon connmon - Internet connection monitoring

I don't see any other posts about this, so I must be the only one... After the last version update the GUI shows this. amtm show 2.8.1 as the latest and up to date. gui must be reading an old file somewhere?

    uiScribe Log Goes Here

I had a odd issue with my RT-AC86U running 384.19 a few weeks back. I only run scribe, scmerlin and conmon. I had not checked the router for a few weeks and when I decided to log in and take a look at the logs, the web interface reverted back to the standard syslog view. In summary, after...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

Whenever I see posts about 5GHz radio delays, DFS always comes to mind. Check to make sure you are not using DFS channels. Even if you have not used them in the past, when you reset, make sure you didn't leave something enabled. Also, a 160MHZ width on AX devices will always cross into DFS...

Smart plugs going offline - DHCP Discover / Offer loop

I've had issues with different vendor's IoT devices as well. However, you dont mention anything about your configuration or devices? What Model, what firmware? That said, assuming these are 2.4GHz devices, make sure you have a fixed channel and ONLY use 20MHz width... not 40 and not 20/40...

smartconnect RT-AX88U and repeater RT-AC66U works better then expected but how?

As someone who likes and uses Smart Connect (ever since ASUS added fixed channels on the AC86U), I understand the need to keep it simple. Coincidentally, when I only had 1 AC86U and a AC68U I had similar experiences and questions. I switched between AP and AI Mesh but was never confident it...
