Add VPN router to network

I've been trying to create the following configuration off and on for a while now. Googling seems to imply it will work, but I am now doubtful. Here's the equipment involved: 2Wire DSL Modem/Router - configured as just a DSL modem ASUS RT-N56U Router - Connected to the 2Wire modem ASUS...
